Tuguegarao City: Pancit Capital of the Philippines
Tuguegarao City is the self-proclaimed Pancit Capital of the country. This is the second year that the Pancit Festival is being held in this idyllic yet bustling little town. There are contests like fastest woman and man to eat pancit. Fastest lola to eat and so on and so forth. When people think of noodles, people also think of the Chinese. Interestingly, Tuguegarao has been a home to hundreds of thousands of Chinese immigrants.
Since pancit is carbohydrates already, Tugue’ folks need not go to the usual with-rice meals. We are the equivalent of those burger loving Americans. If you have time to visit Tuguegarao, just go there and charge your expenses to me (Ok, I take it back). Every local panciteria in Tuguegarao has its unique flavor of the Pancit Batil Patung or the Pancit Cabagan. No other pansit can match to its peculiarity. Where can you find pancit with soy sauce + chili + chopped onions are combined in pancit? Only in my local town.
