View Full Version : GPRS - 15X faster than dial-up?

is it possible for a GPRS connection to achieve 15x faster than dial-up?

there is a cellphone repair shop here in our place installing instant internet - modem over bluetooth link - to laptop/pc.

from their flyer,
they are offering the following speed:
115 KBPS
230KBPS
420 KBPS
920 KBPS

as far as i know the speed written in their flyer
is the speed in "kbps" you select when you are
creating a dial-up networking connection.

the owner said that there is a bluetooth that gives
out 920KBPS and that 920KBPS they install is to
paid for by 8kPhp.

is there a tweak for the usb bluetooth dongel to give
higher speed? the owner is crazy telling me that it
gives as high as 920 KBPS thru GPRS and you can
use it for broadband?

GPRS signal burst can reach up to 107kbps and the
regular speed maximum is 40kbps.

Can you give me light to my question in the first line? Thanx.

im not giving a trick or selling or anything, i am asking if the speed is possible.
- i want an answer not a question.

If we're also talking about speed, GPRS in theory gives out about 171 kbps max at hindi pa kasama dun yung latency so mas mabagal pa dun.

its impossible. only 3G technology can attain such speed.

Yes you can manually set the speed of your modem.. from 1.2 kbps - 921.6 kbps pero defaul speed is 115.2 kbps pero it doesnt mean pag inadjust mo yung speed ng modem mo ay bibilis narin browsing mo.. Speed is always depends on your network and your phone.

Kung mahahack or makokontrol nila yung provide speed ng network ng globe or smart via GPRS (mahirap to) and yung built-in modem ng phone ay mapapalitan nila (posible) dun maniniwala ako na maachieve mo yung 15x faster than dial-up kahit gprs lang gamit mo.

Base from what i experienced GPRS is like a dial-up the speed is falling from 20 - 65 kbps normal speed and to 115 kbps maximum speed. 3G is much faster and the speed is falling from 128 - 364 kbps normal speed and to 512 - 1mbps maximum speed.

At mula dun sa speed na mentioned (see image) on my first post - those are impossible to achieve without hacking the ISP to overclock its server.

here is the flyer:

from the speed available block
those are the speed that you set up in
the creation of dial-up networking connection.

This is how to manually adjust your modem speed.

Sana
makatulong sa iba.

i smell something fishy here. they never mentioned anything about the source to where the "supposed internet connection" is coming from. baka siguro ibebenta lang nila yung unit na supposedly eh magbibigay ng mga ganung connection speed tapos tatakbuhan ka na pag nabili mo. Kung ang claim ng nag-o-offer ng deal na yan e gagamit ka ng bluetooth, d pwedeng lumagpas yung connection mo sa 100 meters (class 1) or 10 meters (class 2, more common) from the source. So kung may malaking transmitter sila ng bluetooth signal (very unlikely, wala pa akong nakikitang ganun ), e di dapat maraming mga ganun na nakatayo siguro sa location nyo. It's too good to be true ikanga.

@mcmms
taong mahilig magkalikot sa kanilang computer. well, cant blame them for the
confidentiality, its business anyway.

online MMORPG.

Hi all! Bago lang po ako.

Anyway, na-intrigue ako sa post na ito, kasi I'm using an ISP at home at medyo hindi ako masaya.

But I don't think this works as it promises to.

here's something i found today:

http://www.gsmworld.com/technology/gprs/class.shtml

hope this will help understand the confusion about GPRS speed data transmission.

baka nalito yung may ari?

http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/5048/gprsco9.jpg

Pag 3G siguro maniniwala ako..

anong yan IUNet? kasi pag
SUN - digitel,
SMART - PLDT,
GLOBE- Globelines

although merong possibility kasi 6630 is a 3g fone.

kahit anung network ako magconnect sa internet via "modem over bluetooth link"
by the way dito ako sa pangasinan.

@ shadow_kill

@shadow_kill

@mcmms

in fairness katakam takam ang offer nila hehe. kaso kulang ang infos na nakalagay how about the price and un nga san mangagaling un connection sa smart, globe or sun? ^_^

rainemeg

i guess:

==> not tried yet and i have no idea about their price.

P10/30min which is just fine. ideal for sending e-mail, chat.
not recommended for downloading.

GLOBE? i have no idea.
==> pinakamataas ang charge sa internet via GPRS,
per kilobytes ang charge ang Php100 mo mauubos within 3minutes surfing.
