View Full Version : Pre-law Courses
Is it:
Legal Management?
Political Science?
Accountancy?
Philosophy?
Business Management?
at bakit?

and saka paano pag hindi ka nakapagstraight agad sa law school? kunwari work ka muna para makapag-aral ka, so ano magiging work mo as a political science graduate? ok din ba? :)
boyTi899 2nd Mar '07 Fri, 00:00 magiging work as pol sci grad?
pol sci prof.
em0ter0 2nd Mar '07 Fri, 00:34 magiging work as pol sci grad?

margaux_sofya 5th Mar '07 Mon, 10:11 Usual Pre Law Courses: PolSci and Legal Management
BUT:
any four year course that have sufficient units in English and Math will suffice... pero it will also depend on the Law school that you are applying to.. :) sila kasi ang nagbibigay ng requirements on how many units ang dapat mong nakuha for English and Math.
anyway, each pre-law course gives you an added edge when you enter law school, but bottomline is... pag pasok mo ng law school, clean slate yan lahat... kesahodang polsci grad ka or legal management grad ka, etc. i had classmates na summa cum laude sa polsci pero pag dating na sa class... hirap din sila.
polsci: matututo ka mag digest ng cases (digest: analyze and interpret)
legal management: same as polsci with added edge in math (para kasi syang pol sci na nag di-digest kayo ng case but you have accounting subjs added... like taxation, obligations and contracts etc.)
the most important things/characteristics that you must have when you plan to enter law sch:
1. determination (dapat gusto mo tlga matapos/tapusin ang kursong ito)
2. keen analytical and logical thinking (because everything that you do and every move that you make naka tali yan sa ating Saligang Batas... each case/issue has a determining factor on how the case will be processed. dapat hindi mabubutasan ang logic mo or kung mabutasan man dapat may ready answer ka sa butas na yun to substantiate your argument... the way the law is built, may mga mitigating factors and stuff that are required. pag may kulang na isang requirement, hindi magiging valid ang issue or issue will be deemed less for than what it really is)
3. ST (sipag at tyaga  ) because there will be days that aayaw at aayaw ka na sa hirap ng law school... take it from me... nakakaloka sya tlga.
4. Patience (there will be professors na super unreasonable tlga. may power tripping at mayroon talagang bobong natural)
5. Communication Skills both oral and written (oral because araw araw na madugong recitation dito at kelangan mo talagang defend ang sagot mo. written... given na yun... kasi you have to write boatloads and boatloads of documentation for cases and exams are all essay exams)
at ang pinaka importante...
im not discouraging you from entering law school... but my only advice will be... just make sure that you are physically, mentally, psychologically and financially prepared for it... dahil ang lahat yan ay ma-se-strain once you enter law sch.
just my two cents...
oh btw, my pre-law was Mass Communication. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c28/NSG_Parties/bungi.gif
ps.
entering/joining a fraternity has its pros and cons. im a member of a sorority and its cool that they help me out in reviewing for my classes. make sure that if you plan to join a frat, pagtulong sa underclassmen ang primary goal nila at hindi yung pakikipag rumble...
em0ter0 5th Mar '07 Mon, 10:32 nagsalita na si lawyer marg.. :) thanks for the useful post ate.. anyway, may mga di ako nameet sa pinost mo, dun sa kailangan ng isang gustong maglaw(ang layo pa no), pero ginagawan ko ng paraan para at least man lang mameet..

hmm.. long story... but keeping it short and sweet..
my parents wanted me to study Law... so i told them.. i will study that.. but they have to allow me to take Mass Comm as my pre-law...
ayun they agreed to it.. tapos before i got my undergrad degree, FEU and DLSU had this joint degree program.. MBA Juris... (law sch na may masters in business ad) so ayun... hehe pumayag parents ko na mag MC ako.. so the rest is.. confusing and stressful history..
downside dito.. over qualified ako for almost all jobs here sa Pinas.... thank God for call centers... hahahahaa

di ako genius... nerd ako...
maldito26 6th Mar '07 Tue, 08:34 tol eto magandang choice para sa yo... POLSCI, PHILO or ACCOUNTING.
ang advantage kasi sa political science meron na sila advance subject for LAW proper. aside from constitution meron introduction to law, constitutional law public & private internation law at obligations & contracts in which such subjects ay included sa first year first semester sa curicullum ng college of law.
pag PHILO naman... more on analysis ka, sa LAW kasi isa sa kailangan dun is LOGIC. madali mong maaaply ang mga principles of LAW pag dating sa mga cases, MINOR PREMISE MAJOR PREMISE and CONCLUSION.
pag ACCOUNTING major ka naman, analysis din yun pero pwede kang maging CPA LAWYER pag nagkatoon. kung di mo man itutuloy ang LAW course mo, pwede ka naman mag work as an accountant kung CPA ka na

polmartin300 17th Mar '07 Sat, 19:27 my dad took journalism as his pre-law but he didn't intend on becoming a lawyer in the first place. mas marami kailangan documentation sa husgado kesa sa oral arguments. matutunan mo naman lahat ng batas pag law proper kinuha mo unless you want to specialize in terms of litigation. marami kasi klase law na subject. yung friend ko cpa lawyer kinuha naman nya accounting dahil for practical reasons mas maganda ang career growth. criminology is also good since in law proper you will be tackling criminal law maganda career growth.
Akatsuki Leader 21st Mar '07 Wed, 20:23 Although there are a lot of pre-law courses that maybe equally appealing and advantageous, in my opinion. accounting is one of the better pre-law courses out there. For one, it has business law subjects (obligations and contracts, partnership and corporations, negotiable instrument, sales) and it will also give you a background in taxation. It would also give you the advantage of experiencing actual examination conditions when taking the cpa board examinations so taking the bar wont be as intimidating as compared to a person who would take a government examination the first time. well anyway good luck to all of you taking up law! I know you can make it!
firestarter 5th Nov '07 Mon, 07:34 yes i think the best pre-law course is acoountancy..
kasi marami ng subjects related sa law
especially if you opt to be a commercial lawyer
as i was told by a friend....
