Moved the tutorial for Installing OpenOffice 3.2.1 so that this post will become the continuation of the Table of Contents. I already maxed out the allowed number of characters on the First Post so I can't update it anymore.

Disclaimer: I just discovered this when I was searching on the Internet and found a tutorial that I would like to share. I don't take any credit in any way for this tutorial as there is already an existing post, and I am merely sharing this for everyone's benefit.

The full instructions are here: http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Fix-the-Big-and-Ugly-Plymouth-Logo-in-Ubuntu-10-04-140810.shtml

Just follow the instructions carefully, and to the dot (meaning eksakto, walang labis, walang kulang). :)

UPDATE (10:09pm October 17, 2010: I tried this in Ubuntu 10.10 and it also works.

Upgrade Firefox to Swiftfox....

http://taksuyama.com/images/swiftfox.jpg

Swiftfox is an optimized Mozilla Firefox which has different builds depending on your processor which makes it much faster than the normal Firefox because that's compiled to work for everybody, but not optimized for a specific processor architecture.

http://i39.tinypic.com/2144gf7.jpg

Installing Swiftfox...

go to terminal and type this...

sudo sh -c "echo 'deb http://getswiftfox.com/builds/debian unstable

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install <swiftfox version for your processor>

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install swiftfox-prescott

sudo ./install-swiftfox.sh

NOTE: CLOSE NYO MUNA YUN FIREFOX BAGO GAWIN ETO

Friends,

Here are the steps that I do when I want to update my NVIDIA video card driver (I'm using NVIDIA 9500 GT).

1. Remove any existing driver for your video card. If you have initially/previously installed drivers using "System"-->"Administration"-->"Hardware Drivers", just go to that application again and remove the driver. You may need to restart your computer.

2. Add this repository: http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu lucid main. I use the point-and-click method. I would go to "System"-->"Administration"-->"Software Sources" and I would just click on "Add". When the box opens, I will type "deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu lucid main" (without the "").

3. Update the driver going again to "System"-->"Administration"-->"Hardware Drivers". You may be asked to restart your computer again.

That's it! Hope this helps. :)

UPDATE (October 12, 2010): An updated tutorial with pictures and step-by-step guide has been posted here: http://www.symbianize.com/showpost.php?p=4066423&postcount=1588

Hi Friend,

Sige sasagot ako dun. Actually the easiest (and safest) way to do this is to simply install the Startup-Manager application in Ubuntu. Kaya ko nasabing "safe" is because GUI-based siya (GUI = Graphical User Interface, in short...point-and-click using the mouse). You can even configure the number of seconds that the bootloader will wait for you to select an OS, as well as configure your boot-up splash screen. Most of all...no hassles and guesswork in configuring using the Terminal. Good for beginners/newbies. :)

This is not to say na hindi puwede mag-Terminal (I believe Terminal is more efficient), pero iniisip ko lang yung mga newbies. :)

Hi Friend,

it simply means that the default drivers of Ubuntu for your Broadcom is actually working, but is not using the most updated drivers. Ika nga nila..."If it's not broken, no need to fix it."

Hope this helps. :)

Hi Friend,

Parang ganito ba ang problem mo? http://www.qc4blog.com/?p=857

Please try to readh the following materials:

List of supported cards. Actually may isa akong response, sabi ko nakapag-install na ako sa PC na may ganyang card and it works out of the box:http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#Supported_chip_types

First, try to connect to an Ethernet connection and run Update Manager. See if it will work using the normal method (clicking on Hardware Drivers method). If not:

1. Community-provided support: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx. Try mo itong step na ito:

Installing b43/STA hybrid drivers

9.10 (Karmic Koala), 10.04 (Lucid Lynx)

Supported models, mostly found on Dell hardware, include:
BCM4311, BCM4312, BCM4313, BCM4321, BCM4322, BCM43224, BCM43225

b43/STA - Internet access

Step 1.
Install the b43/STA hybrid drivers/firmware from the restricted repository (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Ubuntu) using the Synaptic Package Manager and search for the bcmwl-kernel-source package and install or in a terminal issue the following commands:

~$ sudo apt-get update
~$ sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-sourceStep 2.
Under the desktop menu System > Administration > Hardware Drivers, the drivers can be activated for use.
Note: A computer restart may be required before using the wifi card. Pag ayaw pa rin, try this. Medyo complex siya and I personally prefer the method I mentioned above. Also kung gumagana naman I suggest wag mo muna i-update ang drivers. Heto na siya, from Ubuntu Forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=8727145&postcount=1

Hope this helps. :)

2.* sudo apt-get --purge remove b43-fwcutter bcmwl-kernel-source

3. Open all the files in /etc/modprobe.d/ and make sure that all of these lines AREN'T there:
blacklist ssb
blacklist b43
blacklist wl

4. Open /etc/modules and make sure that these aren't there:
b43
ssb
wl

5. Open /etc/modprobe.d/aliases.conf (if it exists) and make sure "alias wlan0 b43" isn't there.

6. Now remove or rename the b43 folder and the b43-legacy folder (if they exist) in /lib/firmware.

7. Reboot your computer.

8. Install the Broadcom STA driver using Jockey or install the package "bcmwl-kernel-source"

9. Reboot your computer.

pag katapos nya, lumabas na sa Hardware Drivers ang Broadcom B43 driver at Broadcom STA driver...Activate ko first yong Broadcom b43 leaving the Broadcom STA deactivated.I open terminal
code: iwconfig taz, lumabas na ang tamang AP.. wlan0 detected my correct SSID.but suddenly it freezes so nag reboot ako taz auto connect ang wifi but then again it freeze.:upset:
reboot again and the card connect to wifi pero walang Internet connection..
punta naman ako sa Hardware Drivers taz activate ko yng BroadCom STA driver then it automatically Disabled the Broadcom B43 driver, reboot and then it connect to wifi and still no internet connection.. :upset::weep: shutdown all including the modem and wifi router. taz here i am having connected to internet and posting this.. HUH!!
