Safety advice in NEw Years Eve
New Year’s Eve is all about fun and celebration and we want you to have a great time.
Before you leave home please remember:
Plan your journey (including how to get home) before you set out for the night and let people know where you are going;
Pets are not permitted within viewing areas. Please do not bring them with you. Assistance dogs are welcome.
Young Children– Central London will again be a very busy place this New Year's Eve with well over 350,000 people expected. As a result the event may be unsuitable for young children, and we strongly recommend that you do not bring buggies or pushchairs with you to the event.
Meeting up with friends is easiest and safest before you set out. Remember large crowds make stations and other well known landmarks such as Nelson’s Column an unsuitable meeting place;
Fireworks we have a fantastic display planned, therefore please do not bring your own fireworks to the event;
Special effects and noise - the fireworks and lighting display will feature loud noises and lighting effects;
Walking is sometimes quicker and easier – particularly after the event has finished, so consider wearing sensible shoes;
Travelling home may be easier from another station or bus stop, so check the options for your return journey before you travel to the event;
When you are at the event please remember:
If you have attended the event in previous years, access to the viewing areas, walking routes and station closure have changed for 2007, and it may be necessary to close the riverside viewing areas once they are full to avoid overcrowding – check out the viewing area plan;
Be alert for any unattended bags or suspect packages. If you see something that looks suspicious, please contact a Event Steward, Police Officer or a member of Transport for London staff;
Mobile phone networks may not be available due to volume of calls;
Pickpockets operate in large crowds so keep your valuables well-hidden – or leave them at home;
Please drink responsibly, and bring all New Year cheer in plastic bottles or cans. No Glass please!
HAVE A HAPPY - AND SAFE – NEW YEAR!
