Distinguished guests, Dr. blahblah, President/ Principal, etc., beloved parents, fellow graduates and friends, a pleasant afternoon.

It is my greatest honor to stand before you on this day at such a most significant event and culminating point in our lives. I feel it is an impossible task to try to speak for all of you, my dear batchmates, or for any one of you, for that matter. However, I will attempt to play this part with my best.

But first and foremost, on behalf of the graduating class, allow me to thank the Administrative Staff, school officials and our beloved mentors, who without them all of this would not have been possible. They have been our devoted and dedicated parents in the school, molding and enriching our potentials, and inculcating in us the true essence of a useful citizenry. Beloved teachers, you are the best and the greatest!

And if I may be allowed to thank one very special and irreplaceable person in the world, one who single handedly battled life’s adversities for my brother, sister and myself, one who I consider the best of the best, let me do it now. Thank you so much Mom, for braving the storms and even the flooded highways just to send us to school, and of course for bringing us into this world. And for my part, thank you for always encouraging me to do my best, for giving me the love that has enabled me to have confidence in myself, but more importantly, for teaching me and giving and sacrificing your life, where my real confidence and strength comes from. I love you Mom, I love you very much.

And to you my classmates, thank you for your love, support, and acceptance. I will miss each of you next year and will never forget what you’ve meant to me. You are in my prayers, and I hope the best for each of you. Let us rejoice and celebrate. We’ve made it. We’ve finally made it. We are graduating for achieving excellence in academics, athletics and the arts, and this we owe it not only to our teachers, but also, we owe it to our selves. Soon, we shall be parting ways and embarking on a new journey, very soon, we will be shaping out our future as we discover the hurdles of the great big world around us.

Nonetheless, let us not merely consider our future. Let us think of our present life because how we live today will determine our future. Let us have dreams and goals. Though these two are entirely different, it is only right to have both. Dreams are our wishes for the future which we would like to happen. They are not the sort of ideas that we strive to realize everyday, for some may be impossible dreams. They cannot instantly surface and transform themselves into something actual. On the other hand, goals are the true desires of our heart. A person with a purpose will do anything in his means to achieve them. And we shall have both of them – dreams and goals, the former, to have something to start with and the latter, to compel us to achieve it.

Together for the last time, let us look towards a bright future. Soon each of us will go forth, in his or her chosen direction, and playing his role in the world. We face so many roads, like a thousand doors, each full of opportunities for every one of us. We must try to look into all of them to see what lies within. While passing through some doors, we will have to be brave and strong before we may advance. We will have to maintain our dignity and righteousness. But if one unexpectedly shuts before us, we shall not be discouraged, but instead must look for the sudden opening of another. This shall be the sign of adulthood, which we have so long awaited with high anticipation. It has now arrived. We have grown up. We must seize our future and take it into our own hands. We will do what is to be done, to strive towards excellence and ultimately to success.

To close off my speech, let me leave you something ponder on..
The heights by great men reached and kept
Were not obtained by sudden flight,
But they, while their companions slept,
Were toiling upward in the night.---from henry wadsworth Longfellow.

With hope and inspiration, all of us sharing our common legacy – all of us, proud members of the graduating class of 2004, let us go forth and prevail! Congratulations!
