database? you mean compiler? hmm. try to use NetBeans 6.0 (http://www.netbeans.org/downloads/) so you can easily determine the methods of the program and you can easily make a functions on that program. or if you want a manual compiler, or other mean is yung mano-mano talaga pag program. use this JCreator (http://www.jcreator.com/download.htm) and install this Java JDK 5 Update (http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5.jsp) so your program will be run on your JCreator compiler and also the java file will be run too. :)

just use Netbeans IDE 6.0 with jdk6 java compiler..
if you want to use a database..
use MySQL then try to download Connector/J..
Connector/J will help connect Netbeans and MySQL..
and it's easy to use..
