@ zelle i started reading books when i was still in high school.. i got curious kasi una ko nga binasa nun mga tagalog pocketbooks kaso mga 2 hours lang tapos ko na nakakabitin mga stories.. my sister used to buy books, mga romantic novels eh mga 14 years old ako nun ayaw ako pabasahin nung mga love stories.. ginagawa nilolock nya room nya eh ako medyo sneaky pag alam ko na andun lang siya sa amin pinupuslit ko mga books nya.. then eventually nasanay na din sya na nakikita nya ko nagbabasa.. ngayon sa akin na siya nanghihiram ng mga books.. yung si tolkien yung author ng lord of the rings.. medyo kakabore nga ehehe.. medyo nagustuhan ko lang na book nya yung prequel ng lord of the rings yung the hobbit.. yung sa mga john grisham naman na books si kuya bumibili.. it pays to have a sis and a bro na bookworm din nalilibre ako sa mga books.. dati panay booksale ko binibili pero ngayun panay ebooks na lang.. ehehe

i was exposed first with Christopher Pike before i read an RL Stein book kaya maka-Pike tuloy ako. i especially love his more adult books such as Cold One (please somebody post the ebooks :pray:) and Seasons of Passage (i think this one's already posted). i left the books in my sister's place...and i doubt if i will ever find it again :weep:

On Twilight - I had reservations about this book at first seeing as it was meant for a younger audience (I feel so ancient) but a friend urged me to read it and it wasn't half bad. It's a nice break from the gloom and doom vampires of Anne Rice. Will I put it down or any of the sequel novels as an all time favorite? Not really. But I like Stephenie Meyer's writing especially The Host. She made me cry to a story about aliens taking over human brains w/c is epic considering that im not a fan of sci-fi. I wish she'd write more mature novels.

SEP novels are pulling me to the light.. but I wanna stay in the dark and read IAD.. finished Bowen's story several days ago but I can't make myself start the next one. :( And Trinity Blacio's Running in Fear series is also distracting me.. :lol:

Yung twilight naman, mejo feel-good na vampire series. Magkaiba talaga sila pero good in their own ways :).

I'm a big fan of RL STINE and Christopher pike. I started buying their books nung nagopen yung Booksale sa Robinsons Ermita. Then i think naobsess ako sa pagcollect nung college ako. @zelle, Oh yes I do. I religious watch the TV show (True Blood) as well as read the books. I even convince my sister and brother in law to watch and now they're hook. Though hindi nila binasa yung book. Nagagandahan pa din sila sa show, I told them they would enjoy it more lalo na if they read the books.

Ako naman iba, once I started reading Twilight and I like it I wanna read other vamp book. And when Vampire Diaries was about to launch their show in 2 months, I started reading Vampire Diaries. It was okay, wasn't too impress with it. But it was a start, then came Vampire Academy, House of Night, Black Dagger Brotherhood etc etc...

It started my love for paranormal books. The only books I read na may paranormal eh if may time travel. That's it but now I devours this new genre so much now that I can't hardly spare some time to read just plain story without any magic or superhuman beings/abilities. Love to daydream, that I have that power/magic. LOL :lol:

Kaya nga I love Charmed TV shows, but I haven't found any witches story that I really like yet.

@maysapaw, Oo nga my reader was just charge but now I can see at least 1/8 of it is gone. Yung No Rest For the Wicked pala, si Sebastian. I actually like him, I like that he loves to learn and smart in thinking of way/or how to trace to get to Kaderin. He might be always a yes dear hubby but I think all of them are. Psych books, Relationships, self-help, nursing, medical and Behavioural disorder books. She loves that. Psych kasi major tapos nurse pa. Psychiatric Nurse. LOL :lol:

Noong una kong pagbuklat ng LOTR: Fellowship of the Ring, ako'y nag-nosebleed :panic:dahil "high-english" talaga. Kahit anong pilit ko na intindihin, wala talaga. I was in my second year in high school. A few weeks after that, I tried again and reworked my brain and ayun tuloy-tuloy na. i've read vampire diaries vol1 & 2 un "The Awakening" and "The Struggle"... ok lang nman sya pero di rin ako masyado naimpress lalo na kasi mas nauna ko basahin ung "stefan's diaries" yung "Origins" and "Bloodlust" which, for me are better than the 2 books i mentioned earlier..

medyo nadismaya lang ako nung mabasa ko un awakening after ko mabasa yung stefans diaries. though somewhat connected yung kwento nung stefan's diaries dun sa vampire diaries kasi pareho ang characters iba naman yung kwento about Catherine at kung pano natransformed into vampire sina Stefan at si Damon..

i liked the twilight series, :thumbsup:nabasa ko na ung apat na libro and i could say na it's a good read.

now, im reading "The Private Series" by Kate Brian and i could say that i'm hooked with it!:rofl:

Hindi ako nagtagumpay :upset: kasi hindi pa ako hooked sa makakapal na books noon. Nasisindak ako, tapos tinamad pa ko buklatin si mr.dictionary (for the big and odd words). Sabi ko makuntento nalang ako sa movies. Hmmm.. maybe someday mababasa ko din yung series...

if your looking for an inspirational book naman, i suggest ung How to stop worrying and start living by Dale Carnegie. Nainspired talaga ako sa book na yan.. nabasa ko sya a long time ago pa sa paperback haha kahit medyo sira sira na un book napagtyagaan ko pa basahin.. haha

I've been reading on YA books lately. I blame it on Timeless and Uneartly. I so fell in love with the books that I can't seem to go on to other genres. I'm having too much fun with these youngsters. lol
That being said, I'll have to reccomend Dead Beautiful by Yvonne Woon. I can only briefly describe it as Nancy Drew meets Twilight meets Harry Potter. You'll have to read it to see what I mean.
Then there's The Mind Readers by Lori Brighton. If Heroes(the tv series) is a YA novel this would be it. Except better, because it's not too crowded with people having powers.
Also Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. This kinda reminds me of Unearthly except it's more action-packed.
On the realistic fiction of YA books, I really enjoyed Prom and Prejudice by Elizabeth Eulberg. I never thought I could enjoy a book without any kissing scene, but there you go. I finished this with a smile on my face. So I just had to read her other book The Lonely Hearts Club, which i enjoyed even more. I love the heroine Penny. I wish there more like her in the YA genre.
Then there's Crash Test Love by Ted Michael . It totally reminded me of Flipped. But if Flipped is for middle school, this is for High School. This is a fun coming-of-age novel. I terribly missed my high school life ( boyfriend and crushes) while reading this book. Although, my BF's not at all like Henry. Though at the time, siya ang pinakapogi sa paningin ko. hahaha Ah well those were the good old days. But my crush was a lot like Henry.;)
I'm thinking of reading COLOR="Red"]Anna and her French Kiss[/COLOR] next. Hope it's also good.
It looks like I may be stuck in the YA genre for a while. I'm just having too much fun. I guess I'm kinda tired of the "same old, same old" adult fictions. They're getting too predictable for me. My baby sis is teasing me that I'm too old for these books. I told her I'm only censoring them for her.
Though, I did read a few good adult fiction before this, Wicked Nights with a Lover by Sophie Jordan and Forgotten Marriage by Paula Roe. These two stood out because they made me cry esp Wicked Nights. Humahagulgol na ako at the end. lol
If you want a breather, I'd reccomend The Switch by Lynsay Sands. It really made me laugh. . Nakakatawa siya talaga. A friend reco this. She said other Lynsay Sands books are just as funny.
On a side note, I'll just have to comment on Alex Pettyfer. Mukhang siya ang favorite actor to play these YA heroes. Ever since I saw him in Stormbreaker ( movie adaptation of another YA novel),I imagined him as the hero whenever I read a YA novel. I was surprised when I found out na siya pla lead sa Beastly cus the whole time I was reading it I was thinking of him as the hero.I can totally see him as Jace, but they might have to dye his hair as Jace is dark-haired. I would n't be surprised if they chose him to play Peeta in Hunger Games also.

diokdin... i started reading Brenda Joyce's Bragg series...but was shocked reading 3 specific scenes sa first book that i just skipped several parts of the book. i jumped on the next book though (Storm's story) and skipped again several parts...matindi yung impact sa akin ng first book that i want to erase everything about the first book in my memory first :lol:

i might try her other series na lang kasi super AYAW ko talaga ng may ganung scenes :lol:

i'm reading another series now (may konting magic and faeries na kasama) but will try to finish 1 or 2 books before i recommend it. one thing i can say though, i had so much time laughing when the heroine met the 3 guys in the book (and no...this is not an erotic book :lol:).

Napanuod ko na ang I Am Number Four the other day! And may I say how fantastic it is! Number six! :giveheart: I was expecting the usual X-Men-y type of story. I really enjoyed it. Of course it helped that Alex Pettyfer is such a hottie :smack:. May isang too-stupid-to-live moment lang yung character ni Dianna Agron dun, when she asked "John" to go to the school with her TO DEVELOP PICTURES. :furious: Gah, talk about timing girl!

Ang nakakahiya pa, she stumbled upon a scene where the H/h are having shower some-some. :ashamed: (Although at that time, I didn't really know the mechanics :naughty:) Grabe nakakahiya, talaga, natawa na lang yung tita ko (+ lecture on why I'm still too young to read that kind of material).

And I agree, Samwise Gamgee is the real hero. :salute:

But the last two books parang Grrrrr...sobra.

@maysapaw, When I first read her books din sis I was shock. Our secretary recommended her to me and loan me her books. I love the story except for the bad stuff happening to the heroine. And I totally get angry sa hero kasi sobrang aroganti nya. I didn't appreciate her books until I re-read them again. And I was like this is different from all-others-with-not-so-much-conflict sa story. I love her books bec it's very original for me yung mga plots nya. Yung mga newer books nya is not so much na. Her older books may mga conflict talaga that makes you say NO, NO, NO, NO.... but the ending is still HAPPY. :D

@yche, oo nga sobrang gwapo ni Alex. Bagay sila ni Number Six. Don't like Sarah, they can do without her. Pinoforce nila yung "love" nila, I totally don't buy it. Puppy love, hmmm maybe. They should stick to friendship. It is not the love Henri describe na for once and always & forever.

It's about a girl whose family came from another world where they were royalty. Of course, hindi alam ng girl that they were were from another world and she was a princess.

Height 'ata nun - 2001- ng Neon Genesis Evangelion dito sa 'Pinas; and I really liked Rei Ayanami's name. Tapos ang faerudo naman ay gawa-gawa lang. Kaya naging Ayanamifaerudo - which is the surname of that girl: an amalgamation of her mother's royal family name - Faerudo, and her father's (who is from this world) surname - Ayanami.

Watch and read I Am Number Four momma you'll like it. And yes, J. Frost's Night Huntress is a must read. Also yung Night Huntress World series, the story is about naman sa mga friends nila Cat and Bones.

@mohcandy, pag may more time ako to read I will read all these reco books. I wish sometimes na mastop ko yung time para I can catch up in all my readings.

I know right? Third Heiress was meh. Di ko naalalang nabasa ko na pala sya until i started flipping through it. Fires of Paradise is so much more memorable. I couldn't put it down that i had to wrap the pretty cover in orange paper so that people would quit teasing me about reading an obviously sexy romance book. Shozkay is soo hot.

I've read the MOT books too. Yeah.. the covers are definitely drool worthy.. lol@ur hubby - he's probably right though.. most male models are gay.. but who cares.. as long as were enjoying the view. :D

Yeah, I'm not impress with it. But with Fires of Paradise, I have 3 copies of it. One is in the Philippines with the old cover, two is with me here with the old and new book cover. Kaya nga when I couldn't find any ebook copy, I scanned my book, OCRed and proof-read it. Para may copy ako for my ereader. Hehe :D And yes...Shozkay is sooo HOT!!! Same with his Dad sa Darkest Heart. HOT din. :)

If that's the case, you'll love Rosanne Bittner, Jane Feather and Kathleen E. Woodiwiss kasi most of their historical romance has something to do with a heroine being a spy in wars, if not it's about some historical battle/war.

Niwei, i finished reading anna & the french kiss last night, and uh huh it was kilig to the bones alright.. :lol: napanaginipan ko pa nga!!!

However, i just have 1 teeny tiny problem with st. Clair, spoilers here! I kinda wish he didn't have a girlfriend, or that he left her sooner before things got serious with ana, :p i mean sure, the gestures are cute, but dude, you have a girlfreakin'friend!!! :kainis:

its because im not into the whole i-love-you-ill-leave-my-girlfriend-for-you stories...i dunno, everything the guy will say to the girl, will always be not so sincere to me, you know...i'll be kinda like, isn't that what you said to your ex, and is that what you'll say to the next one after me?

(I know, i know i'm hopeless... shoot me now :upset: ) though lets face it, he left her ex and sooner or later, he'll find another one because there will always be a better girl! So i'm very relieved to know na they're already having problems (st clair & ellie) before the whole thing started...and that the situation was well explained..

Okay, so i finished Demonica series (5 books). I honestly can and will say na.. I LOVE IT! :excited: i superduperuber love it! Read it guys! you won't regret it.. especially kung nagustuhan nyo ang immortals after dark chaka lords of the underworld.

Yesterday, i was going to read a lot like love, kaya lang i wanted to finish the evernight and wicked lovely series. Natapos ko naman, with great reluctance. Kasi parang napaka distant na nung mga series sakin :noidea:.

I admitted already na hindi ako fan ng evernight pero since nabasa ko yung mga nakaraang books, i wanted to finish it..hmm.. it was... okay. just okay. not spectacular or something (para sakin lang po ha).

Yun namang wicked lovely 5.. it ended the way i know it would. Predictable? medyo po. Ewan ko ha, pero after reading Iron Fey series, i have super high standards na sa mga faery novels.

Yay! I finished Anna and the French Kiss. I loooved it! Aside from the good feeling of seeing St. Claire and Anna find homes at last, I felt like I just went to Paree. Galing mag-describe ng author, feeling ko kasama ako ni Anna and St. Claire nung gi-tour nya to the first time. I didn't even mind Ellie as she is integral to the story. As St. Claire can't be a vampire or an angel and there are no paranormal forces keeping Anna and St. Claire apart, well it had to be a girlfriend. Otherwise, walang thrill yung story.

@zelle when I liked the characters in a story, they feel like they're real people to me. hehe Kaya Nora just got to me kasi I soo liked her sa first book. I guess this just happened when an author tries to drag a story that could fit into one book into a trilogy. I realized if Nora hadn't suddenly acted crazy there would be no book 2. Aside from that hell of a cliffhanger, it did made me look forward for the next book even more. I want to see Nora regain her old self. I hope she and Patch will figure out a way to be together forever. And I agree Vee can be just plain annoying sometimes. I mean, why can't she see that her dates are such losers?

@star sapphire If I remember correctly that's not the end in Flipped. I think the end is where Julianna went out to talk to Bryce after seeing him plant a tree in her yard. I hope I did not spoil the ending for you.

so search naman ako sa google... and from what i gathered its really good!!! ugh! why didn't i discover this earlier...the number of reviews it has is ridiculous it makes me wanna read it already! but the author already removed the story because its being published na nga, but not till 2012 pa! and for the life of me i cant find a copy on the internet...:kainis: i so wanna read this!

FINALLY, finally finished my Immortals After Dark-athon! Now I can't wait for Lothaire's book :panic: (he is such an interesting character, I am so glad he had a lot of appearances in Dreams of a Dark Warrior). I cried at Regin's book (though I hoped Declan did a lot more groveling, still it was a great book).

so far, JJ books have this impact to me: JTSMA -great, PMP-good, SAY - great, ALLL - good....so hopefully Kyle's book will be back to great :D one thing that is common (and me likey) in all of her books is good dialogue/bantering/repartee between the protagonists and even the secondary characters.

I finished A Lot like Love last night. Tall Dark and Smoldering :).. I love how Jordan describes the wine and how she taught Nick the basics of wine tasting. it is a good JJ book. Pero hmmm,, medyo mas like ko yung past books ;).

Nabasa ko na rin pala yung mIdnight breeds although hindi ko alam kung pang ilang book ako nagstop sa series (tried reading the first book, akala ko kasi hindi ko pa nababasa..then naalala ko yung mga scenes sa book).:p

I'm now currently reading Paranormalcy by Kersten White. According to fantasticfiction. this is similar to Anna and the French Kiss. I'm halfway through the book and I'm still smiling. (My sis said I looked like an idiot smiling at my laptop). Have to say this novel is kinda refreshing, not what I expected of a paranormal novel.

By the way, has anyone tried the ebook reader from cdrking? Wanna buy it but I'm wary baka masayang lang pera ko.

kilig books na YA? i'll recommend Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles bad boy + good girl pairing = good read :D

a lot of us are kindle users and i have to admit i really like it :lol: small and handy, but some of its features di mo rin magagamit (like the keyboard). if you have the opportunity to check out ebook readers, do it muna so you can check if its the best fit for you.

I love how Julie writes her characters' dialogue, one particular scene made me think, "I could see myself saying something like that to someone in the future". :o Hehe, :lmao: on the last part with Huxley and Wilkins. :alright:

I think if you're an avid reader (aka reads every hour or so :lol:), it would be a great investment to buy a dedicated reader like a Kindle/Nook/Sony/Astak na may magandang warranty. Medyo nag-aalangan kasi ako sa reader ng CD-R King e. :noidea: Baka hindi kayanin ng battery ang busy reading schedule natin.

@ zelle: Oo, mukhang worth it naman yung money na i-s-spend ko if I enroll there. There are a lot of fantastic French movies, try this all-time favorite of mine: Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0211915/) aka Amélie. Lovely film. :inlove: And Audrey Toutou who starred in A Very Long... starred in that film as well.

Then on with Demonica series na lang while editing the YA books :(.

@sticky-feet: you should definitely go for the french lessons. took 5 levels of french at alliance a while back, and it was a great and enriching experience. i guess this goes for anytime you learn another language/culture. and yeah, better if you have a friend with you so you have summan to practice with. for spanish lessons, the instituto cervantes (http://manila.cervantes.es/en/courses_spanish/spanish_courses.htm) offers classes for all levels of learners. btw, alliance also offers german lessons, or they did when i was there, and it's way easier than french. the only subject i took in college na naka-uno ako LOL french is funner, though.

@maysapaw finish mo n Paranormalcy. I think you'll like it. I can see why fantasticfiction put it in the books similar to Anna and the French Kiss. They're the same in the way the books made me feel. "Feel good" sila pareho. YHou'll still be smiling after you finish it. And the way the relationship developed between the hero and heroine parang ganun yung pace sa Anna. Hindi ito yung insta-love na uso ngayon sa mga paranormal YA books. I can't wait for the next book. Pwede siyang basahin as standalone kahit first ito ng series. Personally though I can't wait for the next book. I wanna know more about Evie and Lend.

@Zelle I'm hoping the third book Tempest will be better.

Didn't know about Paranormalcy either until I saw it sa fantasticfiction. I sometimes find new books to read this way. Pag like ko book, I'll go to the site and see what books are similar to it. And it's good in my opinion. Like ko siya and would recommend it especially if you like the paranormal genre but feel that they're starting to get predictable. Very refreshing and Paranormalcy. I'm afraid I will never see vampires in the same way again.

@diokdin Yeah at first glance, parang ang layo nila sa isa't-isa. Paranormal and realistic genres. But in substance, meron silang similarities. Like yung development ng story and that it will make you laugh.

I'm sure naexperience na natin to (most of us) yung tipong magbabasa ka ng book tapos you'll laugh out loud then may kasama ka sa bahay na magtatanong, baket ka tumatawa? and then you'll start telling him/her about this book you're reading... but of course, hindi sila makarelate. I'm just happy i have people to share happiness/depressions with regards books :).

Oo nga this thread makes me happy interacting to people reading the same books I'm reading din. Wala kasi makakarelate eh... Well, my hubby can and he even recommend a book I should read but hindi ko pa nabasa yung renicomend nya. Iba kasi yung mga gusto nya na mga librong basahin. But at least he understand why I cry or laugh out loud. He'll say to me "That good eh?"

But sa ibang friends ko, they're not a reader kasi kaya wala akong nakakausap especially if I'm very excited sa book to share my enthusiasm.

Nga pala tinapus ko na din yung This Side of the Grave kagabi. It started slow but it pick up naman over halfway sa story. Maaction na but I really think this should be the last sa book. There's no anticipation for the next book at all. After you finished reading you'll feel J. Frost should stop na.

Now I need to read a different book...hmmm...ano kaya babasahin ko, I'm thinking Demonglass or Afterlife before I start again with my IAD marathon reading.

@diokdin yup, its been dabated kung pwede nga sya as YA, kasi nga its a sensitive topic and baka teens might get the wrong idea (wag naman sana)...but i dont think its encouraged naman...more on giving a reader a deeper understanding on what happens inside a troubled teenager's head...i think the author wants to help other teens to spot someone on the brink of committing a suicide and help, there was one scene na may flier given to the students on how to spot a suicidal person...there were scenes na i thought petty incidents lang, but when i thought about it more,i dont know, because not all teens are strong-willed, and can keep up with all things specially if they feel alone diba...:weep:

but all in all, i like the ending, the author showed na there's hope pa...:) though i wish he elaborated more...:)
