..:::OVERCLOCKING | TWEAKING | BENCHMARKING:::..

First of All, I'm back for Symbianize. And I'm gonna start my thread here.Hope you like the header logo I made above for my thread.

.::NOTE:This thread are for Power Users only. If you are not a power user, I bet you good luck for your first step of overclocking your own machine.:thumbsup:I am not responsible for any damage it may cause to your machine. Please use at your own risk!!!Before we're going to proceed to highlights of this thread, I wanna cite some quick info for your personal approach towards Overclocking or let's simply say "Power User". We'll Focus on major overclocking including Motherboard, CPU, and GPU.

http://i77.servimg.com/u/f77/15/67/25/59/divide10.png

Overclocking involves changing your computer system hardware settings to work at a faster speed than the manufacturer's rating or we call it stock settings. This can refer to the motherboard bus speed, the CPU speed, RAM Speed or both, including the GPU speed at another kind of overclocking method. Also called pushing or speed margining, the practice has become highly popularized, especially among gamers and modders, or simply called POWER USERS!

●Overclocking the CPU - In general CPU chips are tested by the manufacturer to see at what speed they fail.. They are then rated at a speed one step lower than this. Since the tests are quite stringent the idea is that it may be possible to push the CPU somewhat faster than its rating while maintaining stability in the system. Sometimes, when manufacturers are short on stock, they package faster GHz chips as slower ones; overclockers perceive this as a windfall. Results from overclocking the CPU alone must be balanced against the rest of the system's specifications, namely the bus speed of the motherboard, memory, et cetera. For example, a 20% increase in processor speed does not usually translate to a 20% overall improvement. The CPU might be running faster than the rest of the system, operating in a "hurry up and wait" environment. Therefore the increase might deliver a nice benchmark improvement but little real-world difference.

Unsuccessful overclocking can result in an unstable system at best, and in the worst case scenario can damage the CPU. Though the latter is less common, it happens. Pushing also reduces the lifetime of the processor an indeterminable amount, as it forces the chip to work harder and hotter. Cooling fans and a good heatsink become even more important in this case.

●Overclocking the System Bus - Changing the motherboard bus speed successfully can create a noticeable improvement on the entire system because all components will run faster. Since the processor's effectiveness is helped by the bus speed, an improvement here can also utilize the full benefit of the CPU. However, overclocking the system bus is risky because it means pushing every component on the motherboard.

Some people mistakenly believe that if a motherboard offers varying bus speed options they must be supported and therefore safe to use. The problem is that the components you install may not be tested at, or rated for the higher bus speed. Changing this setting affects the CPU (unless you adjust the clock multiplier), the chipset, memory bus, system cache, system memory, built-in IDE hard disk controllers, PCI I/O bus slots, and all peripherals. All components must be able to handle the change for the system to successfully perform without hardware failures. Manufacturer warranties do not cover problems created by overclocking.

●Overclocking the GPU of your Graphics cards can also be overclocked. Overclocking a GPU will often yield a marked increase in performance in synthetic benchmarks, and usually will improve game performance too. Sometimes, it is possible to see that a graphics card is pushed beyond its limits before any permanent damage is done by observing on-screen distortions known as artifacts.

While overclocking is a hobby to some, and in many if not most cases proves to be nothing more than a benign self-upgrade, it may be worth considering whether you want to risk potential fallout for what is usually a relatively marginal improvement. If your system is running fine and you don't require the tweak it's probably safer to forgo it, all things considered. On the other hand if you'd like to learn more, there are various sites dedicated to overclocking.

OK! Let's Proceed. . .

http://i77.servimg.com/u/f77/15/67/25/59/divide10.png

●For General Motherboard/CPU Overclocking, you can refer to your BIOS Setup. Different Motherboards and CPUs differs the way you overclock. If you can't find the advanced chipset settings in your BIOS menu means that your System is NOT OVERCLOCKABLE!

NOTE: Setting up the clocks must be done little by little. It can be by 50mhz/100mhz or less per each set of clock.

Below are the tools for monitoring/diagnosing/testing of your settings to make sure that your system is running safe and stable with optimum performance after setting up the desired clocks. Including System Information tools and other essential tools for your system. Most of these tools are free/freeware and I'll also provide some essential Premium Softwares for benchmarking.

ClockGen 1.0.5.3

::CPUID::
http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/images/cgpllcontrol.png

Clockgen is a small tool for overclocking your CPU in case you can't access your BIOS setup for overclocking, here is a good substitute. ClockGen is suitable for experienced users who want to overclock both Pentium or Athlon systems (32-Bit / 64-Bit). With this freeware tool changes can be achieved in real time and without the need to reboot.Use it at your own risk!!

Once you get your PLL model selected, click on "Read Clocks", then open the "PLL Control" window. Notice that the number of sliders depends on the PLL model features. Some models also only support a predefined set of frequencies, and therefore may show a "step-by-step" slider.

Once your new clocks are choosen, clock on "Apply Selection" to make them effective. If you want to come back to current values, click on "Reset Selection".

The "Clocks" window shows the current clocks in real time. It is independant from the selection window, so it will tell you if the new clocks were really applied.

Notice that the CPU clock may vary if the CPU uses a clock modulation mechanism, like C1E or Speedstep. Load your system if you want the CPU to run at full speed.

Forceware Coolbits 2.0 (NVIDIA only)

::Rewt-::

(Sorry, No screenshots available.)

Coolbits 2 unleashes hidden function within ForceWare drivers, it enables several new Direct3d and OpenGL configuration tabs, and even more tweaking capability from the nVidia taskbar settings panel.

This new coolbits registry hack has some new items in it that are interesting for sure. This .reg file was created and thus is courtesy by rewt, he did a nice job for sure.

FAQ:
--------

Q. I dont see the temperature settings, is this due to my card?
A. The temp settings panel is only available with cards equipped with thermal sensors. Some cards that I know of have temp sensors are 5700 Ultra, 5800 Ultra, 5900 non-Ultra and Ultra, and 5950 ultra. But really it all comes down to the manufacturer. I have seen some 5700 and 5900 without temp sensor, but mainly the cheaper XT/LX/SE versions.

Q. The Fan always on doesn`t seem to work
A. The 'fan always on' option is for cards with the OTES (i.e. 5800U) or similar cooling system in which shuts off in 2d mode. It will force fan on even in 2D mode. Of course this means the fans on the hs/f be designed such a way that this option can work.

Q. I thought it enabled Opengl 2.0. It doesn't though.
A. OpenGL Shading Language 2.0 can only be enabled on 55.xx and higher Forceware drivers. It had not yet been implemented in older Detonator or pre 55 Forceware drivers.

Q. Where is the application profiles page?
A. It has been disabled to allow for OpenGL and Direct3d tabs. You can re-enable the application profiles page by changing its respective value to 1 in the coolbits file.

If you experience any minor problems, simply uninstall/reinstall your display driver. I would recommend using Driver Cleaner as well, especially when switching driver versions.

Unpack the achive (self extracting) and then in the setup directory simply click on the .reg file. To get to these options simply right-click on your desktop and go to 'NVIDIA Analog Display' (Win XP/2003). For Win 2000 and lower you may need to get to the Nvidia Control Panel the old way. Right click desktop > Properties > Settings > Advanced > GeForce xxxx

*NOTE: Coolbits 2 is not fully compatible with driver versions older than 55.xx. If you do happen to run this tweak with drivers older than 55.xx you will more than likely get errors at startup! To enable full compatibility, you must disable the options that are causing issues with your current setup.

FurMark 1.9.0 (A-Must Tool!!!)

::Ozone3D | Geeks3D::

http://www.geeks3d.com/public/jegx/201004/furmark_182.jpg

FurMark is a small OpenGL benchmark focused on fur rendering. The rendering algorithm is highly multipass (100 passes) and each pass (or layer) uses a GLSL (OpenGL Shading Language) vertex / pixel shader to make the hairs finer and finer. To increase the fur realism, two dynamic lights are used for self shadowing. The benchmark offers several options allowing the user to tweak the rendering: fullscreen / windowed mode, MSAA selection, window size, duration. The benchmark also includes a GPU Burner mode (stability test).

http://www.ozone3d.net/images/opengl.jpg

This benchmark requires an OpenGL 2.0 compliant graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 5/6/7/8 (and higher), AMD/ATI Radeon 9600 (and higher) or a S3 Graphics Chrome 400 series with the latest graphics drivers.

The startup interface allows you to tweak the benchmark features such as:*Benchmark mode or stability test mode (for overclockers)
*Fullscreen or windowed for each type of run mode
*Window size selection (standard or custom)
*MSAA samples selection
*Benchmarking parameters: time based or frames based
*Contest ModeWhat’s new is this version ? Essentially a compatibility mode with FurMark 1.6.x and especially 1.7.x. I noticed that FurMark 1.7.0 is still much downloaded and the main reason is the difference in the scores between version 1.8.x and 1.7.x. I increased the graphics workload / power draw of FurMark 1.8.0 for all new graphics monsters such as HD 5870, HD 5970 or new GTX 480, leading to less FPS and lower scores compared to FurMark 1.7.0.

Lightsmark (A-Must Tool!!!)

::Stepan Hrbek::

http://dee.cz/lightsmark/336/Lightsmark2.jpg

Natural lighting makes artificial graphics life-like. Computers get faster, but rendering more polygons doesn't add value if lighting looks faked, so insiders know that the next big thing is proper lighting aka Realtime Global Illumination. Typical workloads in realtime rendering will shift. Lightsmark simulates it. Global Illumination renders often take hours. Is your computer fast enough for realtime?

Before Lightsmark, realtime global illumination was limited to small scenes, small resolutions, small speeds, specially crafted scenes with handmade optimizations. Lightsmark breaks all limits at once, running in reasonably sized scene (220000 triangles) in high resolution (1920x1200) at excellent speed (300+fps). Lighting is computed fully automatically in original unmodified scene from 2007 game World of Padman.# faster engine (up to 3x higher fps, so scores are different)
# increased realism (per-pixel indirect shadows and color bleeding)
# Linux support (was Windows only)
# native 64bit support (was 32bit only)
# all GPUs use the same render path (in 2007 they didn't due to driver bug)
# minor rendering fixes (sun's shadow, robot's back faces)

Aquamark 3 (A-Must Tool)
::Massive Publishing::
http://www.guru3d.com/imageview.php?image=1377
This is AquaMark 3 - unfortunately the programmers, Massive development, do not exsist anymore. That does not mean you can't use this great tool though ! A new DirectX 9 compatible benchmark from massive Development. The latest graphics cards on the market are almost all DirectX9 compatible these days, and we can also see an increasing number of games utilizing the new DX9 features. To be able to see how well a graphics card is performing in this new challenging DirectX 9 environment, AquaMark was developed.

AquaMark 3, however, is not solely a DirectX9 benchmark; if you are working with a DirectX 8 or 7 compatible graphics card, you will still be able to use it just with a lot of graphical features missing. Make no mistake, AquaMark3 is a DirectX 9 benchmark. But since it's based on a real game engine it has fallbacks to DirectX 8 and even DirectX 7.

This version supports a wide set of features like the basic AquaMark3 TRISCORE test and free online access to ARC, the on-line AquaMark Result Comparator.

Definitely worth the 63MB download if you have a modern graphics card!

PowerStrip 3.83.635

::EnTech::

http://entechtaiwan.com/images/ps3_timing.gif

PowerStrip provides advanced, multi-monitor, programmable hardware support to a wide range of graphics cards - from the venerable Matrox Millennium I to recent AMD Radeon graphics. It is the only program of its type to support multiple graphics cards from multiple chipset vendors, simultaneously, under every Windows operating system from Windows 95 to the x64-bit edition of Windows 7. A simple menu that pops up from the system tray provides access to some 500 controls over your display hardware, including sophisticated color correction tools, period level adjustments over screen geometry, and driver independent clock controls. A powerful application profiler can detect when programs are launched and respond by activating specific display settings, gamma adjustments, performance switches and even clock speeds - returning everything to normal when the program closes. In-game gamma hotkeys let you light up the darkest hallways during game play, and hardware control over refresh rates - with floating point precision - ensure you're never stuck at just 60Hz no matter what OS you're using. A quick setup wizard gets you up and running with minimal fuss, extensive context-sensitive help is available for all controls, and live updates are supported to ensure you're always running the latest release. Finally, an assortment of system and productivity tools - among them, extensive diagnostics, PCIe and AGP device configuration, EDID decoding, desktop icon management, a system idle thread, Windows resource monitoring, an anti-burn-in orbiting option, physical memory optimization, an on-screen display, and the most advanced monitor support in the industry - round out the compact 1MB package.

http://entechtaiwan.com/images/dots_6.gifLegacy Support: PowerStrip 3 is intended for use with newer display cards, but to protect your investment in older hardware a wide range of otherwise orphaned display adapters are supported, including those based on chips from 3dfx, Number Nine, Cirrus Logic, Rendition, S3, and Tseng Labs. However, a handful of chips supported by older versions of PowerStrip have regrettably been dropped from Version 3.

HAHA..I wrote this thread a month ago, ngayon lang nadiscover ang effort ko! xD

But anyway guys, hope you find this as a useful one. I've made a long research about this and of course experience. If you got comments, questions and or suggestions, feel free to post it here and we'll make this thread active and informative. I'll be updating this from time to time and please let me know any broken link. Thank you.

@Zhyrill : these are tools to help you monitor and make the correct adjustments for your settings. There is no really such tool for overclocking CPU (processors), maybe some but not really for CPU and motherboards yet most tools for overclocking are for video cards only since they are not really into the BIOS utility although those tools above like I said is just for monitoring your frequency settings while examining the overall performance using the benchmarking tools above, since the CPU, RAM and Motherboard clock settings are already built in on your bios depending on your manufacturer. You can use clockgen but I don't really recommend it since it is not BIOS based. That's why everything must be "USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!"

@Kenstrife: Well for laptops, I've already tried that and it works too. On my laptop equipped with Intel i5 CPU and a Nvidia Gfx card, I was able to make some hard improvements mostly with my GFX card up to 30% increase in performance at 60 degree celsius. ;) It's just kinda risky you know. While for my CPU, since I'm using an iSeries intel CPU, Turbo boost technology is enough for me. I got no problems with my CPU since iSeries processors are really really kewl <3

dpat kuya may tutorial ka ^_^

Well, not that really easy, because we got huge differences. It all depends on your manufacturer. And it also depends if you're using a desktop or laptop.

On desktop, things to consider:
1. What is your motherboard manufacturer and model/series)
(Gigabyte, MSI, ECS, Asus, Nvidia, etc)
ex. GA-EX58-UD5
2. What is your CPU (processor)? including model and family
(Intel, AMD)
ex. Intel Core i5-980x Extreme
3. What RAM are you using?
(ex. 6GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator
4. What is your GFX card manufacturer and model?
(ex. Nvidia, ATi, Intel)
ex. Nvidia Quadro 5000 dual SLI Enabled
5. What is your windows platform architecture?
(x86-32 bit system or x64-64 bit system)
ex. x64 bit

Ignore my specs lol. Just list down your computer specs either desktop or laptop and I'll guide you how to do it.

Well, we almost got the same specs on laptop, different brand lang, but my friend of mine got the same brand/model as yours. And if I'm not wrong, you are using the optimus type Nvidia Geforce 310M right? Well let me explain first, there are 2 types of Nvidia 310M cards, one is Optimus type 1GB memory and the other is non-optimus type which is 512MB. The difference between the two is, Optimus type cards are optimize for efficiency not for performance, that's why you may notice some big difference when it comes to performance. Non-optimus cards got higher stock clock frequencies which is more stable when it comes to overclocking, I already tried it myself and it really works. This was my frequency basis before on Nvidia 310M:

The 310M stock speeds were:
Core: 625
Memory: 790
Shaders: 1530

Increasing them little by little, I arrived stably at:
Core:764
Memory: 921
Shaders: 1721

That is about 20% and it's already a huge performance increase and tried it to go a little bit more higher and the amazing thing is, non-optimus type got lower temps while increasing clock frequencies, my max temp was around 65-70 max with the above clock settings, really stable, really cool. While my friend told me and he was complaining about his most specifically his temps at a STOCK clock frequencies to up to 90 degree celcius which is very very bad.

Wait, I'll help you overclock your Nvidia card, saglit lang, I'll find a link for the latest Nvidia tools for you to use the right tool sa pag overclock ng Nvidia specific cards.

what Overclocking tool ang i-recommend mo sa akin at ano dapat yung gagalawin ko sa tool na yun? :thanks:

This is a BenQ Joybook A53 notebook. Sad to say but your notebook is not compatible for overclocking since you got an integrated video card. I just want to point out that integrated video cards such as Intel, sis mirage and others are not supported for power-settings. They are made just the way they are. :)

While for your CPU, you can use clockgen but use it on your own risk. But first, download prime 95 here. You will need this to test your CPU capabilities.

32-bit http://www.eocfiles.com/bdc86eb1ed2989c30dcd1902e84939ae/motherboard/utilties/p95v2511.zip

64-bit
http://www.eocfiles.com/bdc86eb1ed2989c30dcd1902e84939ae/motherboard/utilties/p64v2511.zip

Ok let me demonstrate how to do it

1. Close all your running applications
2. Run Prime 95
3. Run a Torture test on the welcome screen or go options > torture test
4. Select In-place large FFTs and click ok

Something like this
http://media.laptoplogic.com/data/resources/images/15/overclock1.jpg
Here you will notice that the icon (tray icon) is color RED means that Prime95 is idle, GREEN means Prime95 is working on torture test. Now, if the icon turned back to RED, means the tests have failed.

During the Prime95 torture test, you must try to finish atleast 2-3 test routines in order to make sure you are on a stable state. You can only stop the test either manually or failure. To end the test manually, go to Test > Stop. Since the process is continuous.

Next step is overclocking the FSB via clockgen, note that if you cannot see any sliders on clockgen, your CPU is not supported for overclocking, else, proceed below:

Here, you should see two bars, one for FSB, and one (most likely unselectable) for AGP. Click on "Get Values" to obtain your current speed. If the speed is vastly incorrect, the ClockGen version is probably not compatible with your chipset. If its off by a few MHz, that's no problem.

http://laptoplogic.com/data/resources/images/15/clockgen_dv1000_1992.jpg

Next, to overclock, simply move the FSB slider, and click on "Set Values." I suggest moving first in increments of 5, then after 2-3 of those, move by 1 each time. Pause 5-10 seconds in between each step.

http://laptoplogic.com/data/resources/images/15/clockgen_dv1000_stock.jpg

When Prime95 fails, immediately lower the FSB. If your laptop gets stuck, restart your computer. You now know the maximum FSB of your laptop. Run the FSB at a speed a bit below the maximum (1-5 MHz) just in case. Run Prime95 a bit longer (10min+) to make sure its stable.
If you are not satisfied with your overclocked settings, you may be able to improve results by changing the VID of your processor. Run RM Clock (see how in Advanced Battery Guide) and increase the VID and try again.

Now, after making things right, it's time to test your CPU by doing an overclocking test method. Using Prime95, follow the given steps above and try to finish 2-3 tests. If it works perfectly, well congratulations. :)

Have a nice day!

@zyrill : it depends on your graphic card. I'm gonna say it again, magkaiba ang optimus cards sa non-optimus cards. And try using NVIDIA System Tools mas precise ung mga clock settings kasi from NVIDIA talaga siya since you are an NVIDIA user although EVGA is excellent for general tuning.

Well, not that really easy, because we got huge differences. It all depends on your manufacturer. And it also depends if you're using a desktop or laptop.

On desktop, things to consider:
1. What is your motherboard manufacturer and model/series)
(Gigabyte, MSI, ECS, Asus, Nvidia, etc)
ex. GA-EX58-UD5
2. What is your CPU (processor)? including model and family
(Intel, AMD)
ex. Intel Core i5-980x Extreme
3. What RAM are you using?
(ex. 6GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator
4. What is your GFX card manufacturer and model?
(ex. Nvidia, ATi, Intel)
ex. Nvidia Quadro 5000 dual SLI Enabled
5. What is your windows platform architecture?
(x86-32 bit system or x64-64 bit system)
ex. x64 bit

Ignore my specs lol. Just list down your computer specs either desktop or laptop and I'll guide you how to do it.

1.Acer-Volvi2- ung model ba eh ung chipset? kung yun e2 GL960
2. Intel Pentium T2370
3.1.5gb DDR2/1gb apacer technology ,512mb Nanya Technology
4.Mobile Intel(R) 965 express chipset family
5.x64

sana pwede i oc to kc ambagal ng processor eh.

OK guys, I'm back and glad to show you my benchmark results using LightsMark. Finally! I was able to set the most stable clocks so far and it took me hours to figure things out. ;) My Benchmark result in Lightsmark is very satisfying and really really amazing results. This was my highest result so far on my laptop with NVIDIA Geforce 310M 512 CUDA (non-optimus). Who can beat my lappy's score? :p

Let me tell you guys a good tip when overclocking your GPUs. You always need to use LightsMark and FurMark to make sure your settings are really really perfect. Let me guide you how to do it.

Using LightsMark

1. Whenever you come up with new settings, and your overclocking utility says "Clock testing passed" it doesn't mean that it is already really passed and stable. We need to put it into test to make it sure everything is really working fully functional.

2. After setting up your clocks, run LightsMark by browsing the folder Lightsmark2008.2.0 > bin > win32 > Lightsmark2008.exe
and start the benchmarks.

Question: How would I be able to know that everything works fine?

Answer: You will be able to know that everything works fine, when the benchmark tests was perfectly running from start to end. If you experience screen freezing, black screen, or hang, means to say that your settings are not stable, so you need to set another clock frequencies.

Now, when everything fails, you don't have to go back to your overclocking utility and set new adjustments, but you need to restart your computer immediately to freshen up everything.

Question: Why reboot?

Answer: Indeed! Reboot is REQUIRED! It's because, whenever your settings have failed, windows automatically shuts down your video card and automatically sets it to the LOWEST clock frequencies. LOWEST means lowest not the stock frequencies. So no matter how much effort you are doing in re-adjusting your clock frequencies after a failed benchmark will be useless. Baka mainis ka lang and you would come to blame the program pa. So, better shut all programs off and reboot immediately and re-do everything, start from your past stable settings and so on.

Using FurMark:

Furmark is an excellent choice when it comes to live benchmarking and testing. Means, this is the best way to test things out immediately. How? You can set the frequencies with your overclocking utility while running Furmark on the background.

So, how does it work?

Basically, Furmark serves like a signal. Whenever you are adjusting frequencies, furmark automatically adapt those settings you have set on your overclocking utility. While you are increasing the clock frequency settings, you would be able to determine immediately by:

1. If you see flickers, distortions, shimmering objects, pops, clicks and other noises, it means that your settings are too high and unstable, so it's time for you to lower down your settings.

2. If everything works fine, it's time to go deeper with the tests by pressing "P" during the stability test on FurMark. This will enable the burning test mode which will test your hardware to the fullest. If everything goes well. Congratulations!

Note: Overclocking is being done little by little not quick and harsh. Remember to record any stable settings for you to set as a flag point for your next settings. If else fails, go back to your last flag point and then go higher little by little.

And oh btw, don't push yourself too hard, if the temperatures are too high already, turn off your computer for a while and let it cool down for about 5-10 minutes and continue overclocking.

Hope you find everything I wrote useful. Stay tuned for my complete guide to overclocking. I'm just preparing a lot of stuffs before presenting it to the public. :)

Happy Overclocking and benchmarking. Have a nice day!:excited:

In layman's term, hindi po siya pwede i-overclock. 1 thing more is, you are using an integrated video card which is fixed. But you can download and try clockgen. It might work for you. If you see sliders, means your CPU can be overclocked. If not, then that's it, wala po tayong magagawa jan. Since clock frequencies on the BIOS setup are not available on most laptops. It is only available on Desktop Computers.

Let me reiterate myself again:
1. All integrated video cards CANNOT be overclocked.
2. Nearly all laptop processors CANNOT be overclocked.
3. Processor (CPU) overclocking can only be made 90-100% sure on all "DESKTOP" computers while 0-15% only or nearly impossible on Notebook computers.

The verdict is, before you are going to purchase any kind of computer, let us not be deceived by what they look. But let us scrutinize the bones and the marrows. So that we won't have any kind of regrets of dismays at the middle of the road. ;)

Taas ng score mo sa Furmark. That's good. Use Furmark as your live monitor, go to EVGA Precision and adjust clock frequencies accordingly. Unahin mo ung Core Clock and Shader Clock, then test mo siya using Lightsmark, then if everything went fine, go back to EVGA Precision then adjust Memory clock settings, set it a little bit higher. Then go back to Lightsmark and test everything. Closed dapat ang Furmark pag nag lightsmark ka. Pag nakahanap ka na ng stable settings, mag profile ka dun sa EVGA Precision, as a flag point, so that if else fails, may flag point ka basis ulit. Good luck! :)

not really, Core clock and Shader clocks are the one who really accelerates everything, (increase in FPS with the cost of higher temperature levels). While memory clock helps the two (Core clock and shader clock) balance the settings. Memory clock gives a boost on overall performance in terms or accessing datas rendered my your video card. Faster access means faster performance. Faster Core clocks and Shader clocks mean faster rendering of textures and other details.

Ofcourse, overclocking parin un. Anything involved in overclocking, tataas na tataas talaga temperature levels. Sa memory clock, hindi masyado noticeable, while Core and Shader talagang mag heat up sila. And, once na nagbabad ka na sa overclocking, pataas ng pataas temperature levels mo, tip: try to cool down a bit for about 10-15 minutes then try continue overclocking, para hindi mabinat masyado ung Video card mo.

I'm out for now, be back later. :)

Yan mga ginagawa ko more on rendering lalo na sa mga 3D stuffs and sa After Effects at Premiere, heavy talaga sila. I'm taking advantage of the CUDA technology eh. Parehas kayo ni Zhyrill, you both uses the same Video Card (optimus type) Nvidia 310M. And about your gaming problems, I guess there's nothing to do with your hardware. There is something to do with your windows.

Sorry, it took me a little bit long because I was looking for the correct links to help you.
Anyway,
Download this one:

http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/267.76/267.76_notebook_win7_64bit_international_whql.exe (http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/267.76/267.76_notebook_win7_64bit_international_whql.exe)

and also this one, this is one of the secret recipe ;)

http://download.microsoft.com/download/8/4/A/84A35BF1-DAFE-4AE8-82AF-AD2AE20B6B14/directx_Jun2010_redist.exe

and then install. Installation procedures:

1. For NVIDIA Drivers, Uninstall your current drivers first then reboot then install the new drivers.

2. For Directx installation, first make a New Folder on Desktop, then run the Directx redist package. Copy the new folder path you created and paste it on Directx path for extraction. After extraction, go to the new folder you've created a while ago and run setup.exe :)

After installation, reboot your computer immediately and come back here and tell me if everything went fine. And I'll tell you the next steps.

If you want to try beta drivers with me, ok lang. I'm currently downloading a NEW Beta Driver with CUDA 4.0 Support. I'll make some reviews later. ;)

Pre-installation lang mga un. What I gave you is the complete package. Actually, I'm using 2 packages when updating/installing Directx March 2009 Redist and June 2010 Redist to make it sure everything is really complete. Pero, since June 2010 Redist is the latest, it covers all previous Directx versions kaya ok lang. Full package fresh from Microsoft Directx website. While the web installer, ok lang din naman un pero mas complete and mas sure kasi pag standalone package ang ginamit mo when installing any update from microsoft, either Directx, Service packs, hotfixes, patches, I prefer standalone packages whenever it is possible. :)

For the Beta Legacy Drivers, I'm gonna try it. Also, if you want some 3rd party drivers which are forbidden, I can share it to you too hehehe. But not for now. Let's focus on your laptop 1st. :)

ganun ba. I think nasa settings mo na yan eh. If you are not satisfied with the quality, you can adjust the settings manually via NVIDIA Control Panel under manage 3D settings > Program Settings. And also setting up your game. Note that, new drivers contains new engines in rendering models and textures that's why you need to adjust. But anyway you can stick with those old drivers. While, I was so amazed with the results on Verde Legacy drivers, very stable when it comes to overclocking. I got amazing results without crashing, around 65-70 degree temperature.

I'll try to gather some more information about your game issues in NBA 2k11. I'd be busy for some time. And be back later on. Let me know if there are improvements in performance regarding the latest Directx drivers. :)

mag cool-off ka muna. Default stock clocks ka muna. And don't blame the drivers regarding to your video card temperatures. There's nothing to do with the drivers. Temperature rises only from overclocking and working with heavy loads.

Zhyrill, I've been with my friend yesterday who got the same laptop as yours. And was discussing lot of things with him and had the chance to copy some of his games and tried it on my loppy. And surprisingly, I was able to run everything on max settings on a smooth gameplay while he cannot make it to the highest settings. Hanggang Medium settings lang sya, game laggs are obvious when he tries to put it on max.

And about the Windows rating. Lucky to tell you, you got the same ratings. He got 4.2 base score and 5.7 on gaming performance. He saw mine and he was like wow. :)

Alright hope this helps.

For other game improvements, consult NVIDIA Control Panel. Well, there are really instances that setting up the wrong settings in NVIDIA Control Panel can cause unbalance gameplay. So have some time mixing the settings there and try to find what fits for you. Just a tip, if you want a stable and smoother gameplay, on the NVIDIA Control Panel, set Vertical Sync to Force Off. And also, you can try disabling Anisotropic and Antialiasing modes. Well it's up to you now. I often enable antialiasing and anisotropic modes for realisim and disable them globally, I use the profiling anyway.

Been busy lately, so I'm here checking my thread once again.

Hmm it looks like weird to me.
Graphics score of 3.9 and 5.9 looks so indifferent. Pero nakakapagtaka talaga why optimus and non optimus cards really differs on performance.

@zhy : I already tried those, I saw em being played by my friend and it was great. Just another suggestion, if the visuals are kinda poor, try going to the NVIDIA Control Panel, 3D Settings, Program Settings, select the game you wish to modify (e.g. NBA2k11) then manually set the ambient occlusion to quality, then anisotropic filtering to 2x or 4x then anti-aliasing mode to 2x or 4x. Texture filtering quality set to quality, anisotropic sample optimization to off, Texture filtering negative LOD bias to clamp, Texture filtering optimization to off, Triple Buffering to ON, and Vertical sync to Use the 3D application setting, or if not satisfied, set it to force on.

Try it and let me know if there are improvements on your visuals. :)

Yes! You got pretty awesome specs right there :) Would ya post a screenshot of your mainboard too on CPU-z so that I'd be able to help you give some info and idea if you're planning to overclock it in someway.

For your Graphics card. That is an absolutely yes overclockable card. So, you can go over to the 1st page of this thread and read, gather some information and download some of the useful programs I've posted. For GPU overclocking, you can download NVIDIA System Tools or try to find the program EVGA Precision. Be sure to have the latest NVIDIA drivers installed on your machine via NVIDIA's website, alternatively, you can click this link I've provided redirecting to the NVIDIA drivers website http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us since I haven't updated my thread yet for the new resources I suppose to add. But anyway, you can use NVIDIA System Tools for a while and see what it can do to you. :)

Thanks for subscribing my thread. Have a nice day!
