BlackBerry users beware there is a new virus out there that is specifically targeting BlackBerry Smartphones. The virus named ZeuS Trojan can infect any BlackBerry device and can easily spread and infect other phones; even the most secure BlackBerry OS 6 is not spared. Another major problem is that the BlackBerry users will never know if their Smartphone is infected, because the ZeuS Trojan removes itself (hides) from the list of application installed on the OS.

When it comes to security corporate world have a trust in RIM (Research in Motion) OS. Believe it or not there are around 100 million mobile users using BlackBerry phones of which almost have no anti-virus protection installed.

According to Amit Nath, country manager (India) at Trend Micro, the ZeuS Trojan works silently without displaying any interface and thus the user never suspects their phone is infected. Furthermore the Trojan removes itself from the application list and stays hidden under the radar. After installing itself the ZeuS Trojan then sends a confirmation to the administrator who can execute commands remotely.

As per Trend Micro’s analysis the Trojan is capable of executing these commands:

It can reboot the phone.

Add / Remove / Set Sender.

Block / Unblock / Phone numbers.

Can Block calls and even remove already Blocked calls.

Drop / Delete SMS from hacker (this is not visible to the users). Un-monitored SMS will be shown as normal SMS’s.

Forward SMS to hacker (without users knowledge)

How to remove the ZeuS Trojan Virus from BlackBerry Phones
ZeuS Trojan is not to be taken lightly it can replicate and spread on its own. Moreover BlackBerry phones are also used to access sensitive data such as Bank Accounts, PayPal Account and Credit Cards which may get compromised. The best defence is to use anti-virus software on your BlackBerry Phones.

As far as the ZeuS Trojan Virus is concerned there is no explanation as to how it gets the phone infected and not every Anti-Virus programs can provide protection against it. The only way to remove (as of now) is to get a full device format.
