But A Dream

I can hear the rustling of the leaves
As I watch the trees dancing, swaying...
There's this twitch in my heart
As I watch you walk away.

I tried to fight back the tears
But one got away and slowly rolled down my cheek.
I wiped it with the back of my hand
And whispered "I love you" to the wind.

I see you and I ache to be with you
So near yet so far.
Wanting your lips to touch mine
Hoping that your warm embrace will keep me safe from harm.

You will remain a dream
And dreams stay as they are.
How I wish I can keep my eyes closed
And have you nearby.

But I know that you no longer wish
to be with someone like me -
Withering away as days turn to weeks
Weeks to months and months to years.
But for every second that my heart beats,
I know that it beats for you.

And so you walk away
leaving this void in my heart.
I know it will never be whole again
'til the day you decide to come back.

I blow a kiss to the wind
Praying that it'll reach your lips.
I whisper "I love you" to the wind
Hoping that it will cry out to you.

Thank you for the moment we've shared.
It is too short but that moment will be cherished.
It may sound senseless, I know.
But I will take that moment with me 'til it's time for me to go...
