The special is going to air sometime this summer during Golden Time (Japan's equivalent of prime-time, a.k.a. NOT at the usual Tuesday at 2am). What will happen during it? Presumably we'll find out what happened to all the characters after the final episode - the ones that lived, anyway.

Will Conclude Anime Series

The Anime News Network is reporting that Japan's NTV Network will broadcast a three-hour Death Note special on August 31st. The Death Note Director's Cut: Complete Ending Edition will serve as an epitaph for the popular Death Note animated series by recapping the confrontations between the teenage vigilante Light and the youthful detective L re-edited from the point of view of the shinigami Ryuk. The special will have an all-new soundtrack with new dialogue as well as some additional animation.

For any one that likes Death Note yesterday Japan aired a 3 hour special though Ryuk's point of view. Now all us Death Note fans are waiting for the subbed version to come out! Hopefully that will happen today or maybe tomorrow who knows.
