i had my sony ericsson s700i open-lined for P500 by the technician at e-phone. when he returned it to me, the design of the options button on the screen has now changed. i only want it to be unlocked from sun cellular, but i dunno why he reprogrammed it. (the receipt says "config error: reprogrammed) my security code was also reset so i thought that it was normal for cellphones to be reprogrammed to be open-lined. and there are some inevetible changes to its screen layout. but now i think its not? coz ive been to many cellphone boutiques and they didnt have the equipment to open my unit so i grabbed the 1st one that said that they can unlock it. when i got home, it showed alot of malfunctioning, like, i cant change my wallpaper, the graphics on my preloaded themes have now changed, they dont show anymore, the inbox and wap menu dont open (but now they are OK now, dunno what caused it to be OK) but the problems that remain are i cant switch my wallpaper design, 1 of the built-in theme's graphics are gone, the design of the select buttons have changed and there's an unnecessary and unsightly horizontal image the appears in the middle of the screen whenever i switch on and off the phone and one of the preloaded wallpapers on the unit cant be viewed anymore. heck, even my mp3s are affected, some of them acquired the "scratch" sound that we occasionaly hear on pirated cd's or burned tracks. i just deleted those "contaminated" tracks. i went back to complain to the technician but he was on day-off. so my questions are:

1)is it possible for the original lay-out to be restored without deleting all of its data? (ive already transferred some of my phone data to my memory card but there are some left on the phone memory since my memory card only supports up to 30 MB) and how do you restore it? im really distrustful of technicians now.

2)if not, what are my possible options to fix those above mentioned problems? the remaining problems are aesthethic ones. but hey, i want it to fuction normally again.

3)is it mandatory for phones (or some of them, like my unit, SE S700i) to be reprogrammed to be open lined to all networks? he never answered me when i asked him if he put a new software in my phone. of course those technicians will not always be truthful.

4)is it possible to remotely unlock a sony ericsson unit? coz nokia remote unlocking softwares are all over the place, but i did not find a single 1 for sony ericsson phones.

so there, hope someone out there can help me. thanks in advance.

yes ma'am

it is possible to revert it back to the original settings/layout
you just have to re-flash the firmware but you have to back-up your files
because it re-flashing will delete them

oh i see, thank you very much for that info. i sure hope that the technician that open-lined my phone knows how to do it properly. i just wanted to unlock it, but why did he have to reprogram it?! grrrr. :ranting: because of that, my phone acquired many "screw-ups" not to mention that the layout changed for the worse! if i only know how to do it properly and have the needed cables to restore the firmware, i'll do it myself but unfortunately, i'll have to let a technician do it.
