Nokia has released a "Nokia Software Updater" its the flashing software which allows you to keep your phone up-to-date, as well as fix a potential operation problems you may have by updating your phone firmware regularly.
The software and update packages are provided by Nokia free of charge and it gives users the ability to update their phone(s) without need to bring the handset to a service facility to update the firmware on their mobile phone.

The growing complexity of mobile phone firmware, however, presents a significant challenge to mobile handset manufacturers and mobile telephone carriers: the ability to ensure that the mobile phone firmware is of high quality and 100% reliable.

Its highly suggestible to check for updates approximately once a month to keep your phone software up-to-date, or fix a potential operation problem you may have, improves phone’s performance as well as fixing known bugs and problems from previous versions.

Apart from the downloading and upgrading firmware via PC and mentioned soft there are another method known as FOTA. Firmware upgrade Over The Air (FOTA) technology enables cost effective mobile phone firmware updates. By using OTA methods to update mobile phone firmware and to patch flaws in the firmware originally installed on the handset, users no longer need to bring the handset to a service facility to update the firmware on their mobile phone. Nokia N80 is the only and first Series 60 phone that supports FOTA at the moment.

Nasubukan ko na yang Nokia Software Updater to update my previous cellphone (Nokia 6630 and Nokia 6680). Frankly, wala namang naging problema. In fact, it even improved my cellphone. Since luma na yung firmware nila, talagang kailangan na ng update.

Iko-connect mo lang naman yung cellphone sa PC. Then dapat ang internet connection mo is broadband kasi nga malaking files ang kukunin niya sa internet for updates.

After niya makita kung kailangan ng cellphone ng update, the program will tell you what version of firmware is currently installed in your cellphone and also the latest firmware version na i-install niya. It will prompt you if you wanna install it or not. Kung ayaw mo, then you may exit the program. Pero if your proceed, then it will install the latest firmware and you cannot downgrade or revert it back to the previous old firmware.

In my opinion, I think upgrading to the latest firmware is a good thing. Kasi it will improve your cellphone performance because of the enhanced features and fixed bugs kung meron man. And I don't think Nokia will release firmware updates kung mismong yung updates eh buggy pa. Once they release it, it means na OK na yung firmware to be installed sa mga devices.

Pero para sure ka lang, search the internet for firmware versions first, and the changes they made to that firmware bago ka mag-install. Baka nga kasi mamaya, they also remove something (a feature or application) na useful sa'yo dun sa previous firmware version mo).

I'm not sure kung lahat pwede. Basta lahat ng coloured phone, definitely pwede. Pero dun sa mga lower end models, kung maiko-connect mo sa PC mo, siguro baka pwede rin.

NUng nag-update ako ng N80 ko last month lang using Nokia Sofware Updater, ang in-update nya firmware V 4.0623.0.41 lang dated July 26, 2006. Ang internet edition, mas latest (dated November 2006) di nya ginamit. Bakit kaya? Dapat kayang sa July 2006 firmware muna bago yung Nov 2006 na firmware?

Meron ba dito may experience na mag-update ng firmare not using Nokia Software Updater --- using downloaded Phoenix at formware files (eto siguro yung mga files na ini-install over the net using NSU).?

Kulit talaga! Nag update ulit ako ng N80 ko using NSU hoping this time Internet edition na. HIndi pa rin. V 4.0623.42 lang dated Sept 20, 2006. Ano ba yan????

Tapos try ko ulit i update, ang option eh to re-install lang --- meaning wala pa syang ma-detect na new update?

nakakatakot kasi pag naglilipat na ng files tapos pag natanggal or nainterrupt yung connection eh goodbye phone na. idadala mo nlang yun sa nokia center para maayos.

Bro ikaw nalang mag update ng phone mo punta sa lang sa www.nokia.com hanapin mo unit mo and download mo yung Software Updater niya madali lang matapos yun walang 15 minutes..:D basta pinaka important doon basahin mo ng mabuti ang procedures sa pag update.

Bat naman maksisira kaya nga ina update ang mga Mobile Phones para mag improve ang performance nito and para ma fix ang mga bugs & errors nito..:D

I've just updated my N73 (RM-133) v3.0638.0.0.30 to v4.0727.2.2.1.
Medyo malabo ang instruction ng NOKIA.com, sbi back-up mo lang yung phone memory papunta sa memory card. Tpos pagkatapos ng update ska i-restore.

Tapos may mas detailed pa na instruction na nasa FAQ nila. Sabi naman back-up mo daw phone memory sa pc suite. Tapos kelanagn u pa i-format yung memory.

Ngee!!! In contrast to the first instruction.

Sa una gagamitin mo daw memory card sa pag-back-up ng phone memory. Ung nasa FAQ bago i-update kelangan i-format yung memory card.

Magulo d ba.

Syempre sinunod ko yung nasa FAQ. Since naka-connect ako sa pc suite via data cable hindi ko ma-format yung memory card kasi ginagamit daw.

Samakatuwid hindi ko na format yung memory card ko. At kung susundin mo yung instruction na una, na iback-up yung phone to card. Kasi mawawala yung back-up d ba.

Mga naging problema ko pagkatapos ko i-update.

1. Pag restore ko ng phone memory from memory card, i-re-restart yun pagkatapos d ba. Ngayon ayaw na mag-on ng phone ko. Sabi pa contact retailer daw. Nakakagulat d ba kala ko nasira na phone ko.

Ginawa ko pinatay ko uli yung phone at tinaggal ko memory card tapos open the phone without memory card. It helps, nag-open uli phone ko.

2. Pag ka open ng phone, insert ko uli memory card, binasa naman sya ng phone at automatic na narestore. Siyanga lang yung ibang mga icon ng menu folder ay nalipat sa tools. Medyo nagulo yung pagkaka-ayos ng mga icon at folders din naiba ng lugar.

May mawawala ding mga application n nsa memory card. Pakitingnan nyo na lang.

Ayusin lang uli.

Of course mabagal pa rin kung nakaload yung memory card.
At d ko pa alam ang mga pagbabago.

Ipmortante talaga i-copy muna sa pc yung mga laman ng memory card at iformat. Nga lang isa isa nyo ring iinstall lahat.

Sa ginawa ko na-retain yung mga themes, games and other application.

Nkakatakot pero ingat lang at wag magpanic kung may naging problema.

When I updated my 6680 and my friend's n70 thru nsu, sa mmc lng ako nagbackup, then restored it afterwards. Almost 1 year na yung phone ko and so far OK nmn ang firmware nya.

Hi everyone!

Nag update ako ng PCSuite to 6.84. But even before it start to update, I got an "Software update failed" error. Sabi, bk firewall or anti virus ang cause, so I tried it. Lahat ng anti virus, anti spyware at firewall ko ni-disable ko na lahat pero same problem pa rin. I've searched the web and seen alot of Nokia users encountered the same problem, unfortunately nobody has absolutely answer. Baka po meron kayo solution dyan, pa share nman po. Thanks!

nope d pwd pag offline. its a requirement that the phone is on so nokia could identify it and the sim card should also be inserted and active before update could proceed. :slap:

nope di po unless you have with you the firmware it self then you can use some hacking tool like NSS.

Kung gusto mo upgrade firmware pwede sa Nokia service center ang alam ko kahit out of warranty eh upgrade nila yun... just check lang before going there I am not sure kung totoo narinig ko:noidea:

But it's not adviseable to use this tool if you're not familair or it will render your phone unable :) I play with this and it fuck up my N95 8GB firmware :weep:I have to send my phone to Nokai for re-flshing and it took them two weeks before they send me back my phone :slap:

Ayaw? :noidea: bakit naman? na connect mo na ba sa cable? run mo lang po yung Nokia Software Updater then pag na detect niya cp mo makikita mo doon kung anong Current/Update Firmware for your phone like this

Boss marky,, question lang po,, bago ako nagupdate, ung phone memory ko po 10mb siya, ngaun bagong update ung firmware ko po naging 7mb na lang ung phone memory niya eh,, normal ba un???:help: :help:

Ganyan din po nangyari sa 6680 ko 7mb na lang din...

question lang po, may napansin ba kyo pagbabago after mauupdate?

ako wala eh..

may bug pa din cp ko.

pad edit ko names sa contancts may white lines na lumalabas...

bro, ako din meron akong 6680 cellphone and kakaupgrade lang ng firmware ko slamat kay kuya marky,,,, kung may problem ka sa pagdownload ng software ng firmware

kasi ung sa akin v 5.04.40 ---- updated version na siya

and hindi na nun siya, nagrestart magisa after maupdate ung firmware version eh,,,

Nag update ako ng PCSuite to 6.84. But even before it start to update, I got an "Software update failed" error. Sabi, bk firewall or anti virus ang cause, so I tried it. Lahat ng anti virus, anti spyware at firewall ko ni-disable ko na lahat pero same problem pa rin. I've searched the web and seen alot of Nokia users encountered the same problem, unfortunately nobody has absolutely answer. Baka po meron kayo solution dyan, pa share nman po. Thanks!"

pareho tayo problema tol.....n70 gamit ko na fone....gusto ko din e update firmware ko kasi nasira yung fm sa fone ko...patulong naman kung alam muna pana mag update....

nasa process palang ng paguupdate.,
nadownload n nya ung firmware for installation nlng sa fone.,
nasa kalahatian n na paguupdate
then suddenly it says d n daw ma-detect yung cp ko and
naghang yung cp ko tpos may nakalagay sa cp like
"TEST MODE" sa ibabaw ng logo ng "NOKIA".

tpos ngaun ayaw na mag open ng cp..
na try ko sya ikabit sa pc ko tpos nakalagay sa updater
yung phone recovery instruction but nothing happens.!

turn ON your phone while holding together the green (call) button, *, 3 - reprograms your phone memory to factory default. all files will be deleted. you will be ask to input your security or lock code to proceed with the phone memory format. backup your messages, contacts, and other important data before proceeding. NOTE: applicable only to Nokia Series 60 2nd edition and above phones (N6600 and up).
