 STOP PLAYING your precious original music CDs!!! Get rid of scratches and damage on them caused by frequent use...
 THE POWERFUL SOLUTION: convert them into high-quality MP3 albums (with the sound as excellent or nearest to the original CDs!).
:beat: This thread will present to you the LATEST and UP-TO-DATE step-by-step guide (as of November 2008) on music CD-ripping using the MOST POPULAR & EFFICIENT TANDEM of the music software industry: the Exact Audio Copy (famously known as EAC) and the LAME MP3 Encoder.
 GUARANTEED to produce MP3s of the highest-quality sound possible from your music CDs with these VERY SIMPLE AND EASY STEPS... :hyper:
:book:
1. get the latest EAC installer software HERE (http://rapidshare.com/files/168115695/eac-0.99pb4.exe). install the program.
2. now you need a component called "wnaspi32.dll". if you have Nero software installed in your PC, you MUST copy wnaspi32.dll from the Nero installation folder (C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero) to your EAC installation folder (C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy).
:help: if you don't have Nero, get the needed component HERE (http://rapidshare.com/files/168115696/WNASPI32.DLL) (download it to the EAC program folder).
3. run EAC (double-click the EAC shortcut icon on the desktop). press F9.
3a. select the "Extraction" tab. check "Fill up missing offset samples with silence" and "Synchronize between tracks". also set the "Extraction and compression priority" to "Normal" and the "Error recovery quality" to "High" (see the screenshot below).
http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/1620/76132859bo0.jpg
3b. select the "General" tab. check "On unknown CDs - automatically access online freedb database" and "wait for external compressors" (as shown below).
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/861/70726414qr4.jpg
3c. select the "Tools" tab. check the following options as shown:
http://img384.imageshack.us/img384/6461/27127841kg8.jpg
3d. select the "Normalize" tab. if "Normalize" is checked, then deselect it.
http://img20.imageshack.us/img20/4092/93197420ft9.jpg
3e. select the "Filename" tab. you'll notice two input fields with text in them. as shown below, you see %N - %A - %T in those fields. EAC generates filenames using this string which would look like Number - Artist - Title. you can experiment with various combinations for the filename of MP3s. just keep the filenames simple and put the track number (%N) first.
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/4918/37885314tr3.jpg
3f. select the "Interface" tab. check "Installed external ASPI interface" (this would be the wnaspi32.dll component you copied earlier to your EAC folder after installation).
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/5391/94804710dv0.jpg
This section is now complete. Select OK.
4. press F10. select OK on the warning dialogue box ("Information") and the "Options for drive" will appear.
4a. select the "Extraction Method" tab. Secure mode MUST be enabled. check "Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature" and "Drive caches audio data" (as shown below).
http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/9894/41137376wr6.jpg
4b. select the "Drive" tab. press "Autodetect read command now". after a few seconds EAC will reflect the correct read command for your drive.
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/2729/10237343bz9.jpg
4c. select the "Offset / Speed" tab. check "Use read sample offset correction". press "Detect read sample offset correction...". if the read sample offset correction value can't be determined, just set it to 0 (default). also check "Allow speed reduction during extraction" and "CD-Text Read capable drive" (as shown below).
http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/8374/45442375dn9.jpg
4d. select the "Gap Detection" tab. it is recommended to use "Detection method A" and "Secure" (see below).
http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/5711/10ej0.jpg
This section is now complete. Select OK.
5. get the latest LAME MP3 Encoder zip pack HERE (http://rapidshare.com/files/168115697/lame3.98.2.zip). open the zip file and extract the "lame.exe" application file to the EAC installation folder (C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy).
6. Press F11.
6a. select the "External Compression" tab. check "Use external program for compression". select "User Defined Encoder" for the "Parameter passing scheme" option. type .mp3 for "Use file extension" and C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\lame.exe in the program path (make SURE that the extracted lame.exe is in the EAC program folder). for the "Additional command line options", type:
-V 0 --vbr-new --add-id3v2 --ignore-tag-errors --ta "%a" --tt "%t" --tg "%m" --tl "%g" --ty "%y" --tn "%n" %s %d
refer to the diagram below for the rest of what to select and check:
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/9841/11dg3.jpg
6b. select the "ID3 Tag" tab. make sure it matches the diagram below:
http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/9809/12ks1.jpg
Select OK to save the settings.
7. now it's time to save ALL what you have configured. in the program menu, click "EAC", go to "Profiles", then "Save Profile" (see below).
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/9262/13rh6.jpg
enter a name for the profile (ex. EACProfile) and save it in the default "Profiles" folder.
http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/1787/14ll0.jpg
:) remember: each time you open and use the EAC program, make sure that you will "load" this profile that you saved.
:yipee:
:f1: now you are ready to RIP!!!
:beat: this is the MOST COMMONLY-USED extraction method. repeat this process each time you rip a CD.
1. insert the disc you want to rip in your CD-ROM and wait for EAC to request the CD Information from the online freedb database. verify the titles because the information is sent in by volunteers to freedb and often contains typos / errors.
2. select only the wanted tracks, or none at all if you wish to rip the entire disc.
3. press F4. EAC will now detect the gaps between tracks of the entire disc and shouldn't take very long.
http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/6947/15hr9.jpg
4. create a CUE Sheet by selecting "Action" > "Create CUE Sheet" > "Multiple WAV Files With Gaps...(Noncompliant)" from the program menu. save the .cue in the same folder you plan to save the MP3s in.
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/12/16uc8.jpg
5. press Shift+F6. the folder that you saved the .cue in should be showing at this point. select "Save" if this is the location where you indeed want to save the MP3s.
EAC will now start the extraction process. it will test, read, copy, and extract each track.
http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/304/17um9.jpg http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/2209/18gy7.jpg
:what: you will see another pop-up box during extraction (process box with black background). this is the external compressor LAME processing each track into MP3! DO NOT CLOSE THIS BLACK WINDOW. it will open and close automatically as it begins and finishes the compression, respectively. :spy:
:beat: be sure all encoding is finished before exiting EAC. open the folder where you saved the MP3s. there will be a .log file (containing information such as pre-gap lengths, peak levels, track quality, and any errors that occurred during the extraction). in the same folder, there should also be an .m3u playlist which you can drop into the player of your choice: easily loading all the music tracks for you!
:music:
:celebrate: there you go...your favorite CD tracks now in HIGH-QUALITY MP3s! :excited:
