View Full Version : 'Twilight' sequel
Kharz 17th Dec '08 Wed, 23:35 'Twilight' sequel speeds ahead for November 2009
LOS ANGELES - "Twilight" fans have a short wait for the next installment of the vampire saga.
Summit Entertainment spokesman Paul Pflug says " New Moon " is following just 12 months after the first movie, opening Nov. 20, 2009, over the same weekend as "Twilight" this year.
Summit has tapped Chris Weitz (" The Golden Compass ") to direct "New Moon," based on the second book in Stephenie Meyer 's best-selling series about the dangerous romance between a teen ( Kristen Stewart (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1807776250) ) and a vampire ( Robert Pattinson (http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/contributor/1808623206) ) fighting his bloodsucking instincts.
Weitz is taking over the franchise from "Twilight" director Catherine Hardwicke . "Twilight" has shot to $150 million at the box office since debuting Nov. 21.

folieadeux 18th Dec '08 Thu, 00:15 Er.. I wonder how they're goin to make Taylor look so big cause Jacob's taller in New Moon.. I'm totally disappointed with Twilight but I'm keeping my hopes high on New Moon.. I really hope Kristen and Rpattz will improve their acting abilities. Er.. Can't wait.
Midori 18th Dec '08 Thu, 10:05  i wonder how they're going to make this as interesting as the Twilight movie since almost 3/4 of the book is all about Jacob and Bella, if i'm not mistaken.
well, can't wait to see this one.. :pacute:
hahahaha...
pero ok lang, maganda din nmn eh,
tapos dami pang pagkakaiba ng kwento sa book against movie....
kayo na lang mag dagdag,
haba na ng post ko eh,
folieadeux 19th Dec '08 Fri, 08:39 Hahaha.. I think the casting's fine naman EXCLUDING their ACTING.. Rpattz fits Edward perfectly kaya lang ang panget nya umarte and since British siya obvious talaga na fake yung american accent nya.. Si Kristen naman, ganun din, bad acting, she looks like Bella naman kaya lang the way she portrayed Bella, Parang hindi siya ganun kainlove unlike sa book na UNCONDITIONALLY in love siya. Si Rosalie naman, okay lang. But I liked Ashley Greene the most as Alice Cullen, sayang lang kase ang konti ng scenes nya.
Midori 19th Dec '08 Fri, 09:45 :D actually you can't expect the production to follow everything by the book. they need to consider a lot of things and one of these is the length of the movie. 2 hours lang more or less ang dapat itagal ng movie so they picked what they think is essential. and putting that together requires a little 'modification' or a little 'change' for that 'cut up' scenes to make sense to the viewers or audience who don't know what the hell Twilight is all about, kasi they also have to consider the people who never had the chance to read the book.
mostly naman ng mga books-turned-into-movie are also modified to fit the screen, kasi there are things that are fit for books only.
I'm a little disappointed as well being an avid reader of the Twilight saga but i tried to look at the movie as itself. So if i didn't read the book first, i think i would have enjoyed the movie more kasi ang tendency naman ng mga nakabasa muna ng book is to be biased and to compare everything they read to what they are watching. kaya dapat talga watch the movie first, before reading the book. :)
pov ko lang po :D
folieadeux 19th Dec '08 Fri, 09:59 @Midori
I agree rin with that, I never had disappointments with HP cause I haven't read the books yet. Sa Twilight, it's not really the missing parts that annoyed me the most but the lead stars' acting and also yung added plot with James' coven didn't do the film any good. Some important scenes felt super rushed while the unimportant ones were longer..:noidea:
pinaywriter 30th Dec '08 Tue, 07:48 The problem with the movie is not really that it could not match up with the book but that it was a slave to the book.
masyadong mataas ang standard ng libro. since who would have thought nga naman that it would ever hit the silver screen.
some people really writes for the readers hindi para sa movie goers.
twilight as a movie is okay. but it is a date movie masked as a vampire movie. if categorized as a romance it is even blah kasi masyadong formula-ish ang story.
on the question na how papalakihin si Jacob sa New moon, tingnan nyo si Hagrid. It's doable so the Jacob guy oughta be prepared mabigat talaga ang role nya literally.
miyaka 30th Dec '08 Tue, 10:31 parang hindi pa nga sha pang-date eh kasi i'm sure most of the girls would be drooling over Edward, kawawa naman si boyfriend etchepwera muna
autumnshin 30th Dec '08 Tue, 14:45 as we all new sa sequel ng twilight movie, magmamature na ung itsura ni jacob black db, so pinag iisipan na ng bagong director na c chris weitz na palitan na lang xa, at ang good news ay ikino consider nya na papalit ay ang ating kababayan na si Michael Copon...
eto ung news clip galing sa MTV...
Title: NEW MOON CASTING NEWS: MICHAEL COPON, BEN BARNES PUSH FOR ROLES IN TWILIGHT SEQUEL..
"Copon is hoping to replace Taylor Lautner, while Barnes aims for mind-reading vampire Aro"...
When Bella Swan moved to Forks, Washington, she found her whole life in upheaval. The embittered teenager was forced to replace her old friends with new ones and found her everyday comforts replaced by uncertainty, doubt and fear for the future.
These days, "Twilight" fans are feeling closer to their heroine than they ever thought possible.
Following last week's dismissal and replacement of Catherine Hardwicke, this weekend began with a press release from Summit Entertainment officially appointing "New Moon" director Chris Weitz to the job. Suspicious in its omission of Taylor Lautner, the release seemed to all but confirm Twilighter whispers that Hardwicke won't be the last "Twilight" talent replaced before the sequel.
So where does the series go from here?
MTV News can confirm that 26-year-old "Scorpion King 2" actor Michael Copon [pronounced "COPE-on"] is one of several actors Weitz is considering to play the new, larger Jacob Black. A representative for Copon told us that they're making a full effort to land the high-profile gig. And in a bit of 21st-century self-publicity, the actor has even recently updated his Facebook status with messages like: "Michael Copon [is] in a Twilight Zone!" and "Michael Copon is the older Jacob Black!"
Copon's representative confirmed to MTV News that the Facebook page is run by the actor himself and that those are indeed his words.
Approached for comment on Lautner's omission from the "New Moon" press release, Summit confirmed that it was not a typographical error. "The casting decision in regards to the character Jacob Black has yet to be made," a representative told MTV News.
But even once Copon (or whoever else) is officially announced as the new Jacob, Weitz still has many other key casting decisions to make and an extremely brief amount of time in which to make them. With barely 12 weeks until cameras are due to begin rolling, the "Golden Compass" filmmaker needs to find faces to portray several key characters — including the peace-keeping, Italian vampires known as the Volturi.
With the buzz building for these roles, MTV News has confirmed that 27-year-old "Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" heartthrob Ben Barnes is throwing his hat into the ring. The actor is already quite popular with the "Twilight" fanbase and shares the same manager as both Copon and "Twilight" star Cam Gigandet. Barnes is believed to be campaigning for the role of Aro, a mind-reading vampire whose "New Moon" encounter with Edward and Bella helps shape their destiny together.
Where does the "Twilight" franchise go from here? At the moment, the only person who knows is Weitz himself. Stay tuned to MTV News for the very latest on Copon, Barnes and any other names yet to emerge.

arjeree78 1st Jan '09 Thu, 17:02 Michael Copon might be hot...well...okay he is hot. I've been drooling over him since he first appeared in one tree hill season 2 as Felix Tagaro. But after he did Scorpion King 2 and Bring It On: In It to Win It and after he did that singing show in America, I really can't take him seriously as an actor. Jacob Black needs a little more depth and with work Michael Copon may get there...eventually. The franchise would be safer if they stuck to Taylor Lautner...after all, they started the franchise with relative unknowns, they might as well finish it with the same cast. Can you imagine Harry Potter with Emma Watson being replaced at book three as Hermione Granger? This is not an attack on Michael Copon. If hotness was the only criterium to cast him as Jacob Black then I'd happily drool over him. It's just that Jacob Black is a lot more demanding as a role than what I've seen Michael Copon do and I have seen almost all of the stuff he did even back when he was the Blue Ranger in Power Rangers Time Force. Ben Barnes as Aro is a good move though...if it ever pushes through. They might come up with a surprise change again. Hey, who do you guys think they should cast for the evil twins, Jane and Alec or for Caius and Marcus?
folieadeux 1st Jan '09 Thu, 20:28 Talk about depth. Lol. How about Kristen and Rpattz' acting on Twilight? You think they gave justice to their roles? I don't think so. So if we're gonna talk about acting skills, let's start with the lead actors. Er.. What's with the Emma Watson comparison? It's a whole different thing, cause Jacob in Twilight, Taylor, didn't really create much of an impact as compared to Emma's on HP. Just my opinion. Peace.

I think Kristen Stewart isn't clumsy enough to be Bella. As we all know (twilight readers), Bella is an accident magnet, although she always pretends to be feeling okay and trying to look strong. But Kristen seemed to be "barako" in the film ehehe
arjeree78 2nd Jan '09 Fri, 10:18 When you think about it Kirsten Stewart isn't really that pretty. Well, she is, if you're going to make her up to be pretty. :noidea: Her face is like a blank canvas. She's like Anna Hathaway in Princess Diaries. She has the potential to look ordinary or go vavavoom if needed. Besides, Bella doesn't stay "ordinary for long." Once she's turned into a vampire in breaking Dawn, she's supposed to be as gorgeous as the Cullens are :excited:. As for Rpatz, well, Catherine Hardwicke said that he was cast because she needed someone who could be scary and good looking at the same time . Ewan? Did RPatz scare you? The actor who was most requested for the role was Tom Welling from Smallville. Trivia lang po...:salute:

arjeree78 6th Jan '09 Tue, 09:12 Twilight' Cast: What Will They Be Up To In 2009?
Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and their co-stars have a busy year to look forward to.
by Larry Carroll
SANTA MONICA, California — Whether you love the "Twilight" phenomenon or think it sucks harder than a hungry Nomad, you'd be a foolish moviegoer to deny the fact that its fresh-faced young stars' newly bestowed Hollywood clout will influence dozens of films in the years to come. Much like "American Graffiti," "Dazed and Confused" or "American Pie" before it, each of the series' breakout actors will now head off to forge their own careers — with dreams of becoming more Harrison Ford than Mackenzie Phillips.
2009 is a big year for the cast, featuring a mix of films they shot before "Twilight" took off and a few others offered to them once the buzz began. Several stars have chosen to go the horror route, while a few others have opted for loftier art flicks that will debut in a few weeks at Sundance — and at least one "Twilight" star will soon be seen shimmying around a stripper pole. So, without further ado, we offer this countdown of the 10 Most Eagerly Anticipated 2009 Films From the "Twilight" Stars.
10. "My Bloody Valentine 3-D"
It's based on an underground horror classic, features part-time vampire Edi Gathegi, and boasts the tagline: "Nothing says 'date movie' like a 3-D ride to hell!" Check out our bloody exclusive clip from the flick about a deranged coal miner hunting down teenage victims, and imagine that pickax coming at you in a darkened theater with those 3-D glasses on. This January 16 release feels like a good old-fashioned guilty pleasure, and that's no miner feat.
9. "Shrink"
If there's one thing Twilighters love (well, besides black T-shirts), it's Miss Ashley Greene. Which is most likely the reason I began receiving e-mails within hours of her film "Shrink" being chosen for this year's Sundance, asking what this under-the-radar flick is all about. Well, the film features Greene alongside Kevin Spacey, Keke Palmer, Robin Williams and "The Ruins" star Laura Ramsey, telling the story of a psychiatrist-to-the-stars (Spacey) who attempts to help a troubled teen girl. When the shrink discovers that she is entranced by the very same Hollywood figures whose flaws he knows so intimately, he sees the worlds of reality and fantasy colliding with him in the middle. Check out the MTV Movies Blog for Ashley's thoughts on the movie, as well as her plans to attend Sundance — and stay tuned, as we'll be sure to bring you full coverage of "Shrink" during the festival later this month.
8. "The Unborn"
Five words why Twilighters will see this ghost movie: Cam Gigandet in his undies. Four words on why their boyfriends will, too: Odette Yustman in hers. And the allure for everyone else? It's a freaky flick boasting icky bugs, creepy kids and a horrific scene with the glory hole from hell. Those looking forward to Cam playing a kind, sympathetic boyfriend might not want to watch this clip, but we can all look forward to seeing him alongside Gary Oldman, Meagan Good and the rest of this impressive cast when "The Unborn" haunts theaters January 9.
7. "Dread"
Last night I was watching Comedy Central at midnight, and a God-awful movie called "Senior Skip Day" came on, starring a bunch of bad actors trying too hard to meld "Ferris Bueller" with "American Pie," a bloated Tara Reid and Jackson Rathbone? Even as a half-baked stoner in that straight-to-video crapfest, the young star otherwise known as Jasper Hale was hard to look away from. There's something very watchable about the charismatic Rathbone, which is why we're eager to see "Dread," a Clive Barker horror flick that marks his first leading-man role. It sounds like it'll be a terrifying film to watch — and "Dread" doesn't even need a Tara Reid cameo.
6. "Adventureland"
The sort of sweet-sounding movie that mainstream Hollywood rarely makes anymore, it's the follow-up from the director of "Superbad" (Greg Mottola), and features an impressive cast. Backing up one Miss Kristin Stewart is "The Squid and the Whale" star Jesse Eisenberg, as well as Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Ryan Reynolds and other notables. Set in 1987, the flick tells the story of a college grad (Eisenberg) planning to travel around Europe, until his parents reveal that they can no longer fund his trip. Forced to instead spend the summer working at a low-rent amusement park, he's living a miserable existence of cotton candy and crying kids — until he falls in love with an '80s chick who looks a lot like Bella Swan. "Adventureland" was also recently picked for Sundance, so you can bet we'll be all over it when we hit Utah later this month.
5. "Up in the Air"
Ever since we broke the news about this project back in the day, we've been eager to see what one of our favorite directors, Jason Reitman, has in store. Then came news that the too-sweet-for-words Anna Kendrick landed the much-contested lead role, starring opposite George Clooney. Based on the 2001 novel of the same name, "Up in the Air" tells the story of a business traveler on a quest to land a million frequent-flyer miles; advance buzz is already hyping up the film's awards-season hopes, and we're wondering if Kendrick could be in for an Ellen Page-in-"Juno"-like breakout. Thundercats are go!
4. "Pandorum"
Maybe it's because the plot sounds a bit like "Sunshine." Perhaps it's because it co-stars faves like Ben Foster, Dennis Quaid and Norman Reedus. Or, most likely, it's because it'll feature Cam Gigandet in outer space! Regardless, the first couple photos from "Pandorum" got us even more excited about the flick, which the artist formerly known as James the killer vampire describes thusly: "It's basically this group of people who are stuck on a spaceship that has left Earth and won't be going back, and things go horribly wrong." When the movie hits theaters September 9, we'll be sure to save you a seat.
3. "Welcome to the Rileys"
If Bella Swan really became a stripper, she'd most likely fall off the stage and leave a trail of dollar bills fluttering through the air. But Kristen Stewart is one of the most beautiful young actresses in Hollywood, and her dancing skills have already been displayed in films like "The Yellow Handkerchief" and "What Just Happened?" Now, the daring 18-year-old star is putting the finishing touches on "Welcome to the Rileys" opposite James Gandolfini, playing a troubled exotic dancer who helps bring a couple back together after the death of their daughter. If any of the "Twilight" stars have an Oscar in their future, our money is on it being KStew.
2. "Little Ashes"
We know him as Spunk Ransom, we know him as RPattz, and in 2008 we came to know Robert Pattinson as a hair-raising, riot-causing international superstar. Now, the in-demand actor has several projects in the works, but none are more anticipated than "Little Ashes," an indie flick about surrealist artist Salvador Dalí. Thankfully, the movie looks much better than Rob's mustache, and advance buzz is building. Soon enough, the world will know if RPattz is truly a wunderkind or a one-hit wonder.
1. "New Moon"
It's got a new director, a super-fast turnaround time, and several key casting decisions yet to be made. But, to borrow a phrase from Eric Yorkie: Chillax! Stephenie Meyer has already given her thumbs-up to the sequel, scripted by returning screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, and everybody from Rob and Kristen to Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene and Peter Facinelli are in like Flynn. Not only is the November 20 release a no-brainer for the most anticipated "Twilight"-related movie of 2009, but to millions of die-hard fans, it's the single most anticipated flick of the year. Better keep those Tuesdays open, folks.
folieadeux 6th Jan '09 Tue, 09:59 Wow.. Can't believe their getting lots of work after how they played their roles in Twilight. I'm surprised with Kstew. I think that Ashley's film is the most matino though :lolcard: with kevin spacey and robin williams in the cast.

interview po ito ni michael tungkol sa pagiging kinoconsider na pumalit xa kay taylor as jacob sa new moon....
J-14 Exclusive Q&A with Michael Copon
Will he or won't he be the next Jacob Black in the Twilight sequel, New Moon? J-14 snags an exclusive interview with Michael Copon to get the scoop on whether he'll be taking over for Taylor Lautner.
J-14: Everyone's putting you up against Taylor Lautner - why do you think you should be Jacob?
Michael: I have nothing against Taylor personally. I think he's great and tremendous at what he does. But it's just adjusting to the fact that Jacob has to grow. It's a matter of going with the storyline. It goes with the territory. I see so much in Jacob Black that I feel like wasn't brought to the first film that if I had the opportunity, I would totally create an amazing character. He's more than just a guy who walks around and smiles and likes Bella. It's just too one-sided. It's two colors and I feel like Jacob is full of a hundred colors.
J-14: What else would you bring to this film?
Michael: Of course, I would be honored and ecstatic to play the role if Summit chose me because I think with the experience I got from Scorpion King 2, I Iearned how to carry a film from start to finish. Plus, it was a very similar role - Heroic warrior who had passion for someone. It's a similar story in a different realm with werewolves. I would be fun to play this dark yet romantic story. And people are starting to take into consideration that I look exactly like Taylor. If you look at some pictures of us, you will be confused. Not to mention the other day, I ran into someone who knows both of us and said, "Hi Taylor." I was like, "No, I'm Michael."
J-14: Taylor's been bulking up to try to get the role. Have you been preparing in any way?
Michael: If anything, I feel like I need to bulk down. Right now I'm close to 200 pounds of muscle. Taylor's probably what, 140, if he's lucky? I'm already 200 pounds, so there's no need for me to get any bigger. Plus he's 5'6" and I'm 6'2". In the book, he grows eight inches and I'm exactly eight inches taller than Taylor. Huge difference.
J-14: Jacob is an American Indian character and Taylor has some American Indian blood in him, what is your background?
Michael: Growing up on the East Coast, I have some American Indian on my mom's side. Virginia is where Last of the Mohicans took place. All the people out there have Indian blood mixed in from years and years ago. If you look at my mom, she's super tan with blonde hair.
J-14: Is what we're reading in the blogs an accurate account of what is going on behind the scenes of you getting this role?
Michael: There's no auditioning going on, it's a lot of talking. My representation has been talking to Summit and they're hearing that I'm one of the first picks. I got offered CSI: Miami recently without auditioning, so a lot of great things are coming without auditions. But I wouldn't mind going in and showing them what I've got. At the same time, it would be really great if they saw my work and trusted me. It would make me feel like they look at me more as a team player.
J-14: How familiar are you with Stephenie Meyer's Twilight books?
Michael: I've read the first one and I've dabbled through the Cliffs Notes of the second and third ones. I haven't had time to actually sit down and read the whole book, but I kind of know what happens.
J-14: If you get this role, people will no doubt compare you to Rob Pattinson. Are you ready for Team Mike verses Team Rob?
Michael: (Laughs) I've seen Rob out here and there and we've hung out and had great conversations. Funny enough, before I knew who he was, I said, "I'd be excited to play a part in Twilight 2" and he said, "Oh yeah, I'm in the first one." I was like, "Who do you play?" He's like, "Edward." I felt so bad! But if there is Team Mike verses Team Rob, I think it's only for the better of the film. Friendly competition!

Taylor Lautner Decision on whether he'll get to keep the Jacob role in Twilight sequel New Moon is expected this week

The Twilight Saga
By Nicole Sperling
According to sources around Hollywood, things may start looking very hairy for Taylor Lautner. The actor — not to mention legions of Twilight fans — has been desperate to learn whether Summit Entertainment will cast him once more as Jacob Black in the Twilight sequel New Moon.
This week, Summit is expected to announce its decision for the next film based on Stephenie Meyer's wildly successful series of vampire romance novels. Kristen Stewart, 18, is set to return as Bella Swan, the beautiful human who falls for a softhearted bloodsucker. And Robert Pattinson, 22, has a lock on his job too; his turn as Edward Cullen, the hunky, soulful vampire, has made him an overnight superstar with young female moviegoers around the planet. But Lautner, 16, has a more uncertain future. That's because the character he was so perfectly cast to play in the first Twilight film — a slim, baby-faced teenager — will be greatly expanded in the sequel. And by greatly expanded, we mean into a hulking, snarling, seven-foot Lycan. ''Jacob is a totally different character in New Moon,'' says Melissa Rosenberg, screenwriter of both Twilight films. ''He's a foot taller and huge — and he's supposed to look 25. It's really a question of whether or not the same actor can play the role.'' Rosenberg is quick to add, however, that ''everyone would love to keep him. We all think he's the loveliest person ever.''
Lautner's certainly been doing everything in his mortal power to hang on to the part. Since Twilight, he's gained 19 pounds and is promising to pack on 10 more before shooting starts on New Moon this March. And judging from a widely reprinted red-carpet interview, he's not shy about letting Summit and New Moon's director, Chris Weitz (who joined the franchise last month after Twilight's director, Catherine Hardwicke, left over creative differences), know that he has the chops for the gig. ''My job for Twilight was to bring Twilight Jacob to life — the friendly, happy-go-lucky little Jacob,'' he told MTV News. ''My job for New Moon is completely different. I've been looking forward to that. I've been getting ready for it, and I can assure them I will follow through with that.''
Fans of the Twilight novels — specifically those who identify themselves as ''Team Jacob'' — are divided over whether Lautner has the machismo to carry New Moon. In fact, pro-Lautner/anti-Lautner fights have been breaking out on the Web for weeks. As screenwriter Rosenberg puts it, ''He has to play a romantic lead against Rob, who's a 22-year-old man. That's a tall order.''
Summit declined to comment on the specifics of this story, but Twilight has so far grossed $263 million worldwide, and usually when a studio hits franchise pay dirt it tries to keep all the parts in place. Yes, there are exceptions. Just this past October, Marvel announced it was replacing Terrence Howard with Don Cheadle in Iron Man 2. Nick Stahl took over for Edward Furlong as John Connor in Terminator 3, while Jake Gyllenhaal very nearly stole Spider-Man 2 out from under Tobey Maguire. Recently, there have been rumors that Michael Copon (The Scorpion King 2) and Steven Strait (10,000 BC) are jockeying for Lautner's spot. But you can chalk that up to empty Web noise: Reps for both actors say neither has been approached for the role. In fact, in what may shape up to be a triumph of the underdog, sources close to the production say that the simplest route would be to go with Lautner. EW has confirmed that the actor has not only met with director Weitz, but was even screen-tested for chemistry with Kristen Stewart. ''I'm very hopeful,'' a New Moon insider says of Lautner. ''We're not looking at anybody else.''
The irony, it turns out, is that Summit went to an awful lot of trouble to find Lautner in the first place. In late 2007, the studio launched a nationwide campaign, auditioning hundreds of hopefuls in a search for just the right Native American actor to play Jacob Black. They never did find one — Lautner, turns out, is French, Dutch, and German — but it was a lot of work. Of course, nobody back then could have anticipated just how huge a phenomenon the first Twilight movie would become — or how much would end up riding on the casting of its sequel. Even if Lautner does keep his job, he may be nervous enough to start pulling his fur out.

arjeree78 8th Jan '09 Thu, 09:19 Stephenie Meyer confirms Taylor Lautner will be in 'Twilight' sequel
Jan 7, 2009, 07:39 PM | by Joshua Rich
In a post on her website, Twilight author Stephenie Meyer confirms that Taylor Lautner will reprise his role as Jacob in the hit vampire romance's sequel, New Moon. As EW first reported last night, this news ends months of curiosity about whether Lautner would return. The full text of the announcement, which includes a statement from New Moon director Chris Weitz, is after the jump and at StephenieMeyer.com.

Good news about New Moon from director Chris Weitz:
I'm very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he's doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.
The characters in Stephenie's books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I'm looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.
very best
Chris Weitz
I'd just like to add that I was very much a part of this decision. My first priority was always what was best for New Moon—what was going to give us the best possible movie. I'm truly thrilled that Taylor was the one who proved to the director, to Summit, and to me that he is the best possible Jacob we could have. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing what he's going to bring to Jacob's character this year.

folieadeux 8th Jan '09 Thu, 09:52 Ugh.. What a turn down. I thought Copon will replace him.
arjeree78 8th Jan '09 Thu, 10:13 Well, the thing is the two actors...Michael Copon and Stephen Straight who were being considered for New Moon's Jacob Black, were never really approached by people from Summit Entertainment. They were really holding out to see if Taylor Lautner can change in time for the New Moon shoot. It was reps of Michael Copon and Stephen Straight who were campaigning for their stars. Apparently, they were offered nothing. But...I understand your disappointment. Nakakamiss ang beef cakes...
Midori 8th Jan '09 Thu, 11:01  what a disappointment.. i'm really rooting for Michael Copon. He fits the role perfectly :sigh:
folieadeux 8th Jan '09 Thu, 12:29 Er.. Will there be time for Taylor to grow big? :lolcard: How about Ben Barnes? Will him playing Aro still push through? Now that Copon's out, that's the only thing I'm excited about the sequel.
eccabol 8th Jan '09 Thu, 15:15 okay naman si Taylor Lautner, makulit siya and maganda ang acting. :)
Kaso ayoko lang talaga sa kanya ehehe
I'm not closing doors though. Magaling pa kasi siyang umarte kesa kay Kristen ahahah
arjeree78 8th Jan '09 Thu, 17:31 Hi guys! Will keep you posted if anything else comes up with the New Moon angle. For now, it was only Taylor Lautner who has been confirmed. There's no news yet on who will be in "The Volturi" and "The Quielute Wolves." (gosh...I hope I got the spelling right!)
folieadeux 8th Jan '09 Thu, 22:15 I think it's Quilleutes..
eccabol 9th Jan '09 Fri, 14:48 I'm excuted about Leah Clearwater's role. there are speculations that Vanessa Hudgens will portray the role.
eccabol 9th Jan '09 Fri, 14:50 MTV Weighs In: Who should play Leah in New Moon?
A staff member at MTV voices out about the speculation of Disney stars Vanessa Hudgens and Brenda Song being possible contenders for the role of Leah in New Moon. This does not seem likely, seeing as the role of Leah in New Moon is very small, and neither girls fit the height requirement. MTV wants your opinion. Do you think either could fit the role? Or would you prefer someone else?
Now for all of the hoot and hollering some fans have made about Taylor Lautner not fitting the role of Jacob (“He’s too thin. He’s too short.” Blah. Blah), there’s no way directors should cast either of these two as Leah. The character is described as 6’1. Vanessa and Brenda are short and petite! I’m all for taking a book and letting your imagination run wild, but if people are going to make a big stink about Taylor’s real life stature not matching Meyer’s description of Jacob, then why shouldn’t we be nit-picky here as well?!"

Folie...my friend...No worries. The franchise is staying with relative unknowns I think. They wouldn't shelve out big bucks to name-actors yet...not until New Moon breaks Twilight's record. But then...it'll be funny if they made "We're All In This Together..." the werewolves cheer before they phase....

JenG 13th Jan '09 Tue, 10:04 infairness, Vanessa is pretty and talented.
We should be proud and support her coz she's half Filipino
If she will be playing as Leah in New Moon, her beauty will stand out compare to Kristen Stewart as Bella...
As long as ROBERT PATTINSON and ASHLEY GREENE are concern, don't care who will play who... Love them both!!!

folieadeux 13th Jan '09 Tue, 17:20 It's not about if she's half pinay or whatever. She's not right for the role. :disapprove: but I agree, as long as Ashley, Jackson and Rpattz remained, I could care less about who plays who. I super love Ashley. :excited:

I looooooooooooooooooovvvvvvvve Jackson Rathbone and The Fach, Peter Facinelli! I just think Vanessa should stay in her own franchise...She made a name for herself in Disney. She should stay Disney. She's too sweet...and pretty :slap: Can you really imagine her being a growling, snarling, sour-graping beeeeyooootch (though it's completely understandable because the whole 'imprinting thing' ruined her life) like Leah Clearwater? :noidea: However, sentiments about supporting half-filipinos are valid...:praise:
folieadeux 13th Jan '09 Tue, 22:58 Yes! I agree, she should stick with the musicals! she doesn't fit the role, she's too sweet and all that crap  plus she's super popular, New Moon needs fresh faces

arjeree78 2nd Feb '09 Mon, 22:41 People! New tsismis I made "sagap" sa twilight sites on Multiply. There's a buzz that "Alec" might be played by Lucas Grabeel. The kid who played Ryan Evans on High School Musical. I'm mixed up about this. On one hand, I like the kid. I think he has potential. But on the other hand he'll be carrying the HSM stigma with him. This is all just tsismis of course. none of it has been confirmed yet. It's just buzzing in sites.
folieadeux 3rd Feb '09 Tue, 08:47 Lucas who? :noidea: Wala kong kilala sa HSM.. Is that sharpay's twin? Sorry I've no idea..
