    Thumbsup [GUIDE] Turn Off Automatic Connection of Edge/GPRS on Nokia C3 if WIFI is not in use

    [GUIDE] TURN OFF AUTOMATIC CONNECTION OF EDGE/GPRS ON NOKIA C3 IF WIFI IS NOT IN USE

    ***This is only applicable to the users who:
    1. Doesn't use UBT/FBT for Opera Mini/Bolt/Built-in browser
    2. Who has a lot of load, P100 for instance
    3. Who is subscribed to monthly cell phone plan
    4. Who uses default GLOBE/SMART/SUN internet connection

    Are you annoyed of always having E (EDGE) or G (GPRS) symbol at the top of your Nokia C3 phone?

    Did you know that when these symbols showed up, you're prepaid load is being deducted (for prepaid users) and monthly cell phone bill will increase (for postpaid users).

    Did you know that Nokia C3 uses 5 major applications that can cause deduction of your load or increase cell phone bill? These applications are the following: Internet (Built-in web browser), Communities, Chat, Ovi Store, and Mail.
    *Internet application is used to browse websites. (Located in Menu)
    *Communities application is used to access Facebook and Twitter. (Located in Menu)
    *Chat application is used to communicate on Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger, Google Talk, and Ovi Messenger. (Located in Messaging)
    *Ovi Store application is used to download Games, Applications, Themes, and Tones. (FREE to download and Pay to download)
    *Mail application is used to read/check emails on Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail, etc. (Located in Menu)

    In order for these application not to access the internet immediately, follow the following steps:

    (This guide is based on my phone's firmware 04.45. I'm not sure if some options will not be available for phones under 04.45 but anyway please try it. Just in case, please update your phone to the latest firmware)

    I.) Activate Ask first option before connecting to the Internet
    Menu>Settings>Connectivity>WLAN>Internet connection>Ask first

    II.) Communities Setting (this will stop automatically downloading updates from Facebook/Twitter and will stop connecting to EDGE/GPRS)
    Click Options>Settings
    While roaming=Minimise my data use
    Minimise my data use=On
    Confirm before deleting=On
    Automatically update my phone Home screen: Never

    III.) Chat Setting (this will help not to Sign In your account instantly)
    During the account creation or login (below username and password):
    Auto Sign In=Off

    IV.) Ovi Store Setting
    Menu>Settings>Nokia Account
    Automatic sign-in=Off

    V.) Mail
    - Automatically connects/downloads updates using WIFI/EDGE/GPRS once you have created an account on Yahoo! Mail or Gmail.
    - You need to delete your email accounts saved in MAIL if you are out of WIFI connection since it will automatically use EDGE/GPRS connection to check new email updates.

    ***If you don't want to delete your email account and don't want MAIL to download updates automatically, you need to create a new access point and web connections.
    Access point and web connection is different by the way.
    Access point is used on Communities, Ovi Store, Chat while Web Connection is used on Built-in Web Browser.

    A. Create New Access Point (this connection will help you not to connect to Communities, Mail, Ovi Store, and Chat if area is not in range of WIFI connection)

    Menu>Settings>Configuration>Personal Settings>Options>Add new>Access point
    Account name=Anyting you want (Type word Blank for example)
    Access point settings
    >Bearer Settings=default (no need to edit)

    B. Create New Web Connection (this connection will help you not to connect to Communities, Mail, Ovi Store, and Chat, if area is not in range of WIFI connection)

    Menu>Settings>Configuration>Personal Settings>Options>Add new>Web
    Account name= Anyting you want (Type word Blank for example)
    Homepage=Anyting you want (can be left blank)
    Username=leave it blank
    Password=leave it blank
    Use preferred access pt.=No
    Access point settings
    >Proxy=Disabled
    >Bearer settings=default (no need to edit)

    C. Create Another Web Connection (this connection will allow you to browse the Internet using the built-in Internet browser)
    -use/apply this Web Connection setting only on Built-in Web browser.
    -this is different Connection from above, letter B.

    Menu>Settings>Configuration>Personal Settings>Options>Add new>Web
    Account name= Anything you want (Type words My Web for example)
    Homepage=Anyting you want (can be left blank)
    Username=leave it blank
    Password=leave it blank
    Use preferred access pt.=Yes
    Access point settings is greyed out once use preferred access pt. is set to yes.

    After creating 1 Access point and 2 Web connections, go back to Configuration (Menu>Settings>Configuration)
    Default config. settings=Personal config
    Default in all apps=Click Select and Yes
    Preferred Access Point=select the Access Point you created on letter A (Blank for example)

    By choosing the blank access point, it will not use SUN/GLOBE/SMART connection and it will not connect to Communities, Ovi Store, Chat, and Mail but will give you error message like unable to connect.

    VI.) Internet (built-in web browser)
    If you don't want Browser to connect to the internet:
    Menu>Internet>Web settings>Configuration settings
    Configuration=Personal Config.
    Account=select the Web Connection you created on letter B (Blank for example)

    If you want Browser to connect to the internet:
    Menu>Internet>Web settings>Configuration settings
    Configuration=Personal Config.
    Account=select the Access Point you created on letter C (My Web for example)

    And you're DONE!

    I hope this tutorial helped and for reading.

    TS, pag kasi nagcoconnect ako kahit using wifi, sa GPRS - EDGE pumapasok, dati naman nag tatanong si Nokia C3 kung via GPRS or via WLAN kung mag coconnect ako.
