So you're really interested in getting on-board and becoming a part of Global Network Gaming? Here's what you'll need then:
• A PC running Windows 98 / 98se / ME / 2000 / XP or Linux; or a Macintosh running OSX.
• Either an XBox, PlayStation2 and / or PSP
• An active broadband Internet connection (56kbps connections may work for some games, but we don't recommend it at all).
• A network connection between your console/s and the PC or Mac. This could come in the form of a router (wireless or non), 2 NICS (Network Interface Cards), a wireless connection or even a combination of switches, hubs and other networking hardware (see: 2.0 Networking and Firewall Questions)

The Following 4 Users Say Thank You to zercas For This Useful Post:

Windows XP Tutorial by me based on CPhoenix's connecting guide.
Windows Vista Tutorial by Darksun45230 based on LopinRD's "guide".
Using the wireless devices as access points by me.
This guide is for Windows XP.
First of all I want to thank CPhoenix, for posting the tutorial I used as a base. It can be found here:
Code:
http://teamxlink.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5649
Now we will need these things in order to make things work:
The GW-US54Mini2G
Latest driver for the GW-~
a PSP
Xlink Kai
UPDATE
Apparently
GW-US54Mini2G
GW-US54Mini2W
GW-US54Mini2B
GW-US54GXS
GW-US54GD
GW-US54HP
Will also work with Xlink Kai!
Source:
Code:
http://xlink.planex.co.jp/
This does not mean I am sure it will work for everyone, but it must work for people in Japan/have Japanese version of the program, etc.
The only things you'd need to buy would be the GW-US54Mini2G and the PSP(for those who dont have any idea of what im talking about)
Now, install the latest driver.
This is the link to the driver of the product we will be using:
Once you click on the first link, you will be sent to another page. Click "downloads" in the tab.
Then you will see this page:
Depending on what OS/and what language you want you will choose a driver... To start downloading click on the numbers(the one that tells you how big it is)
Now open the driver you just downloaded, and after accepting smoe terms you will get this screen:
I chose Microsoft Zero Configuration Tool. Then click next and let it install.
Once you finish intalling it you will see a wireless connection icon in your taskbar's tray(the one by the clock).
Now right click on the icon and click on Status and you will get a window.
Click on properties. It will show you another window.
Click Configure and yet another window will appear.
Click on the advanced tab...
Then look for PSP Xlink Mode and Enable it.
Now turn on your PSP and load the game, go to multiplayer mode on Network(or wireless) and make sure it is in the "waiting for opponents" screen. Now view the avaiable networks on the planex usb adaptor and look for a connection that starts with "PSP", connect to it and wait till it is connected.
This should be all for the USB adaptor.
Now open up Start Kai Config and try to match the settings to my configuration. Of course the username and pass would be your username and pass(Xtag).
Now all you need to do(theorically) is to open Start Kai.
Once it loads and all, click on the circled button(the one with an ugly 1 near it) THEN click on the folder icon with the ugly number 2 near it.
And finally you should get a screen like this which will mean your PSP and Planex adaptor are connected.
The End
Windows Vista Tutorial

They dont have the PSPXlink option in device manager, so everything was good, but i never got the Console Detected....
What to do?
Note: This is what i did after i got ports forwarded, etc.... but the console never got detected.
1. Download the WinXP Install AND the Vista Install
2. Install the Vista drivers, THEN Force install the drivers that come with the XP setup (Install the XP setup and in Program Files/Wireless/WinXP/ theres the .inf Driver files, then just Update Drivers, click choose myself the drivers, Have Disk and go into that folder and get that .inf)
3. Now you will get the PSPXlink Enable option in the Mini2 Advanced options in Device manager (Vista drivers doesnt have it)
4. Well after i enabled it, it all started working.
That lil detail about the Vista drivers not working, and using the XP ones, wasnt found in anyother guide i saw... not even a tip into that. Well there it is, i hope someone finds it usefull
1. I downloaded Windows Driver V 1.2.2.0 and Windows Vista Driver V3.0.2.0.
2. I installed the Vista drivers as detailed in the quote above. Then I extracted the Windows Driver V 1.2.2.0 onto my desktop and after I right clicked it and selected Properties.
3. I then clicked on the Compatibility Tab and check marked Run this program in Compatibility mode for and finally I selected Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
4. Only after step three I activated the installed and only then did it installed the old drivers onto my hard drive.
The good news, PSP Xlink Mode shows in Device Manager under PCI GW-US54Mini2. Yay for me!
Bad news, yeah you knew it was coming. It's not that much of a problem but whenever I try to open KaiConfig it reads an Initialization Error, "An error occured opening the adapter pci gw-us54mini2. Kai will not use this adapter."
I'm going to try to reinstall Kai for the millionth time and see if the error goes away that way. If I can finally get rid of it I might finally be able to connect to Xlink Kai!
Hope this helps you because it took a hellva long time to figure out.
EDIT: It took a few minutes but Xlink finally traced my signal! If only my HR was a bit higher -_-;
So there you have it. I suppose you'll all throw parades for me for sometime to come (if it works on your vista.)
In other words, download Vista driver 3.0.2.0 and XP 1.2.2.0.
Then install Vista driver.Do not restart your PC! Once you install it click properties on the XP installer, go to Compatibility tab, and for Compatibility Mode choose Windows XP Service Pack 2. Now you only need to enable your PSP XLink Mode and you can go play.
Updated:
Using the GW-US64Mini2G (and possible the GW-US64Mini2W) as Access Points for the PSP's internet browser.
Code:
Make a new connection. (from the main menu go to the left most part and open Network settings)
Make sure it is Infrastructure mode.
Scan and select the wireless signal you want to use. (Obviously the planex device)
Make sure the SSID is not changed.
For WLAN Security Settings, well, you know what to do, if you enabled it on the usb device then enable it on the psp if not just choose "None.
For Address Settings choose Custom.
For IP Address Settings choose Automatic.
For DNS Setting Choose Manual.
Now here is the trick.
on the Primary DNS you must make sure it's 67.171.70.72. The Secondary one will not be edited (will be 0.0.0.0)
On Proxy Server choose "Do Not Use"
On Internet Browser, just choose the one you want.
Do Not Start-will not automatically start the browser
Start-will start the browser
For the connection name, give it the name you want, if I were you I'd give it a name I'd recognize as the browser connection.
Now check the settings, it should look like this:
Connection Name: (Free to choose)
SSID: (will be the one you give using the Planex Driver)
Security: (Will be on or off depending on your usb device's settings)
IP Address: Automatic
Subnet Mask: Automatic
Default Router: Automatic
Primary DNS: 67.171.70.72
Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0
Proxy Server: Do Not Use
Internet Browser: (Your choice)
If you have any other questions, post here or send me an email at *Only fully-registered users can see this link.* . Hope these tutorials work for you.
