IMO, kasi naging mainstream na ang 4K TV's.
From 640x480 to 1280x720, the jump in resolution was 2x. Back then, the transition was from CRT TV's to HDTV's. From 1280x720 to 1600x900 or 1920x1080, the jump in resolution was less than 2x. The PS3 was good enough.
From 1920x1080 to 3840x2160, the jump in resolution is once again 2x. Everyone was happily using Full HD TV's... until 4K TV's became affordable in 2016.
The PS4 has a 2013-2014 era graphics chip. Apparently, they needed twice the PS4's graphics processing power to render pseudo 4K games at an acceptable framerate (2016 era graphics chip). Thus, the tech refresh. Plus, they have to sell that VR thingy, which also requires more graphics processing.
This trend will probably continue. The next mainstream resolution is most likely 8K, 7680×4320. So my guess is that the PS5 will be marketed as a native 4K machine and later on, the PS5 Pro, a pseudo 8K machine.

Simple. Sony is trying to compete with pc gaming. Better processing power and graphics. Tsaka for better VR gaming.

sony explained it already. if you understand what they just stated, ps4 pro has the capability to play and render ps4 titles at 4k resolution at 60 frames per second. they added extra processing power to the system. your ordinary ps4 wont have the capacity to do so where it runs games at native 1080p resolution

Iba pa din ang Sony gaming console. Pamahal ng pamahal ang hardware parts ng PC tapos hindi mo dn maiiwasan naglalagg.. eh sa console at east na sya

some games benefit some extra omf of PRO models like Final Fantasy 15, in regular PS4 at 1080p, the game renders at 30fps, while in PRO the game render 60fps with little graphics improvements still in 1080p though.
4k resolution is mostly a fad feature on PS4 Pro, since most games doesnt really run on that resolution except for some really crappy indie games that renders at 4k 30fps (max spec for HDMI1.4 standards which is used on regular PS4 and PS4 Pro) any saying about 60fps on 4k in PS4 is totally fad, its either you get 4k 30fps or 1080p 60fps.

Ganito kase yan if di 4k ang tv mo and not supported by hdr wag na wag kang bibili ng pro kase di mo magagamit ang full scale potential nya kase nasa 1080p lang ang max nya. Pero if gusto mo na magamit ang fullscale potential nya bili ka ng 4k na tv and gamitin mo ang hdr nya para mas swabe..yun nga lang mas maingay sa fan ang ps4 pro lalo na pag matagal na parang naka helicopter ang tunog

nope good din sya sa 1080p based on my two console na slim at pro dahil pwede mo ma unlock 60fps pag pro mas swabe performance nya kpag 1080p running a pero pag 4k locked ulit sya sa 30fps pero kung di nmn affectado sayo frame rate good narin fat or slim hdr
