This isn't exactly confirmed yet, but our usual flying get leak sources are saying that Famitsu has a first look this week at Monster Hunter 3G, a 3DS entry in the Monster Hunter series. The game will reportedly retain the water elements of Wii's Monster Hunter 3 and will offer local wireless play. A release is planned for the end of the year.
The 3DS title has been highly rumored, so this news wouldn't be too much of a surprise. If true, it would represent the first time the series has appeared on a portable system other than PSP (and iPhone, if that counts).
Famitsu also has details on a new first party Nintendo peripheral that expands the 3DS with a second slide pad. This attaches next to the system's face buttons.
A few new details on Monster Hunter 3G and Nintendo's new slide pad peripheral have surfaced following our initial report from earlier in the day.
Like all the "G" titles, Monster Hunter 3G is an expanded version of its predecessor, in this case Wii's Monster Hunter 3. The 3G version will include a few changes to the world of the Wii version, but will live up to the G name of being packed with content.
The MH3 water elements that were absent from PSP's Monster Hunster Portable 3rd, also an expanded version of MH3, are in MHP3G. The game is said to have a slightly different control feel for its water segments, while still retaining the overall feel of 3's water play.
One new control feature will make use of the system's lower touch screen. By touching, you'll be able to make your character automatically turn to face larger beasts.
Other features mentioned in Famitsu include local wireless play and a new main cover monster named Blakidios (I'm not sure if this is a totally new monster of it it's from a past title -- the name doesn't come up in the Monster Hunter Wiki).
A release is planned for the end of the year, Famitsu reports. The game will be playable at Tokyo Game Show next week.
The newly opened Monster Hunter 3G official site provides us with some clues about what's new with this 3DS update to Wii's Monster Hunter 3.
First, and probably foremost, is an all new beast, whose name I'm going to approximate as "Brakidios." Hopefully someone more skilled in Monster Hunter talk can come up with a better Romanization.
Brakidios is the cover monster for MHP3G, which means he'll probably appear on all the posters and on the game's cover. He's forehead and front legs have a special substance that explodes after a set time.
The game includes a new base of operations, Tanzia Harbor. A stopover for trade routes, Tanzia is known as an oasis for sea goers. It takes the place of MH3's Rockrack City network mode hub.
Also new just for the 3DS is a new control method. You can play the game with just the slide pad and buttons, or you can use the touch screen for some controls.
The lower screen shows a "Target Camera" panel which can be toggled on and off. When on, pressing the L button (for camera reset) will make the camera turn to the large beast you're currently fighting. When off, L will behave just like normal and move behind your character's back. You can keep the Target Camera on and still make the camera turn to your back by pressing L twice quickly.
Of course, the big new control option is the slide pad expansion that Famitsu showed yesterday. The official site does not mention this. Capcom is presumably waiting for Nintendo to actually announce it first.
Other new features mentioned at the official site include new weapon designs and Kayanba, a rival to the masked Cha-cha companion from the Wii title.

MONSTER HUNTER 4
In typical press conference fashion, Nintendo saved their biggest unveiling for last.
Sadly, it was not the 3DS hardware revision featuring two analog sticks, as was speculated by money (including yours truly). Instead, it was the announcement and debut footage of Monster Hunter 4, the next big sequel in the series.
The news may not mean much over here, but in Japan the reaction is no doubt tremendous; much like the Street Fighter franchise, Capcom is stopping at making endless ports and expansions, and instead are gearing up for the next numbered game…and the 3DS is getting first dibs on it.
The debut trailer shows off a rather impressive chase sequence, where the customized hunter is running for his life from a massive, rock-crushing dragon. After several near-death escapes, he manages to land on the beast’s back and quickly reverses the roles of hunter and prey.
