Alvin Teng On Late UST Breakdown: 'Malas Mo Buong Laro, Bakit Ikaw Ang Titira?'
Alvin Teng is no doubt proud and happy to see son Jeron win a UAAP men’s basketball title with La Salle in just his sophomore season.
But his heart really bleeds for his other child Jeric, who fell short in his own bid to win a championship for University of Santo Tomas and, worse, will never have another chance again.
Kahit gustuhin niya, hindi na siya pupuwedeng bumawi,” said the older Teng after La Salle beat UST, 71-69, in overtime to win the UAAP men’s basketball championship of Season 76.
The former San Miguel mainstay in the pro league rued several crucial mistakes the Tigers committed in the stretch, particularly in the final seconds of regulation.
While he did not name names, Teng was obviously referring to Aljon Mariano who took matters into his own hands by ignoring an open Jeric Teng and instead going for the game-winning shot at the buzzer.
Kayang-kaya ni Jeric atakihin yun eh,” he added. “Mas may chance sana!”
Still, the former PBA player said he was proud of the way Jeric battled back from two injuries to lead the Tigers in the playoffs.
At the same time, Teng is happy to see his younger son Jeron blossom into a force to reckon with in the country’s premier collegiate league.
Teng also heaved a sigh of relief that with the finals over, family life is back to normal.
The elder Teng admitted that the finals series took its toll on the family since both Jeron and Jeric wanted to win the championship for their respective schools so badly.
“Dalawang anak mo, naglalaban tapos both teams, kaibigan ko. Ang hirap. Naging neutral muna kami.”
Alvin said they dreaded the thought of Game Three being postponed due to typhoon ‘Santi' on Saturday, which would have prolonged the family's agony.
“Sabi di ba baka ma-postponed pa ‘yung game kasi may bagyo.
