Bakit bibili ka pa, magdownload ka na lang libre pa. Mamili ka: merong ebooks, chess engines (best engines in the world pa, like Stockfish, Komodo, Houdini) na merong tutorials and analysis tools, etc.
Kung beginner ka, payo ko sayo tutok ka sa opening, middle, end games. Then look for strategies for quick mates in different settings, etc. Bigyan mo ng special attention ang e4 at d4 lines, yan ang madalas gamitin sa tournaments.

Di naman lahat ng download illegal. Maraming chess books online na free download talaga. Isa pa, makakapamili ka ng resources na akma sa study style mo kung ikuconsider mo yung available resources ng online materials. I for one used to buy all these books from National Bookstore, kahit pa nga yung Sahovski Informator nila (sa Alimall Cubao lang ako may nakita dati). Ang problema wala ng mga updated versions ang Sahovski Informator, samantalang nagkalat sa internet ang latest versions ng mga to. Di lang Sahovski Informator, you will find na maraming resources na di mo makikita kahit saang bookstores, pero naglipana lang online.
Sa chess engines naman, andiyan ang Houdini, strong chess engine, lorded it over the competition for some time, pero ang free version nya hanggang 1.5 lang. Compare that to Stockfish, arguably the strongest engine around, pero libre siya. Thing is chess authors and programmers have found a new model to make money out of their efforts hindi lang sa pagbebenta ng libro nila.

Di ko naman sinabi na lahat illegal. Kawawa din kasi mga authors kung nagdownload ng mga illegal.
