The Philippines was the first Asian country that abolished the death penalty in 1987. But six years after it has reimposed the death penalty, the Philippines has overtaken its Asian neighbors and has the most number of death convicts.

Come to think about it it's a terrific way for people in power to kill somebody thru legal means.. Iframe-up lang nila yung taong kaaway nila or nambabatikos

For Better! Makatao pa nga yun lethal injection or electric chair eh. :!:

Why I’m against Death Penalty?

In a tense situation where both sides are hurling invectives and accusations against each other, the Philippines is now again entering into another saga of Filipinos favorite past time; the “blaming game.” As the situation flares up, here comes the resurgence of another debatable issue; re-imposition of death penalty. And what makes this game more exciting are the “riders” that goes with the issue. There you can expect opportunist politicians aiming for the 2010 elections joining the fracas, not to solve the problem but to get media exposure. A sure way of getting the people remember them come election time but no thanks to the “TRAPOS” (traditional politicians), we don’t intend to make our headache into tumor.

I’m in full support of the government’s campaign against prohibited drugs, its use, manufacture and distribution but I strongly opposed to the restoration of death penalty that was repealed by the 13th Congress. While it may looks like a strong deterrent to crimes including heinous ones, but this can worsen the case of bribery not only in its implementing agencies but also in the judiciary. Those arrested suspects who have the power and influence may resort “more” to bribery since the penalty if found guilty is graver while those who doesn’t have the right “connection” will definitely be in the losing end. History will tell that even during its imposition in the past, no known personalities and “big fish” got the taste of what is like to be put in the lethal injection chamber but poor people and those victims of unfair trial oftentimes are the ones meted out with the death penalty.

No rule can be more effective unless it is implemented to its fullest without fear and favor. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel to know its purpose. Just implement the existing law, that’s all we need to do.

Why I’m (Still) against Death Penalty?

We all know that grass and weeds deprived protein that palay rice deserve most and for a farmer to have a bountiful harvest; he has to remove these weeds from the rice fields. Kaingin (field burning) is one way of clearing grass before the planting season, this method seems to be the fastest and easy way of clearing the fields of grass but there's bigger chance that grass will grow back. Another way of ensuring that the grass will not grow back is to ensure that grass are weeded out from its main roots, thus comes the popular problem-solving problem method employ by most learned people—Root Cause Analysis. This is to ensure that the problem is analyzed from its root and not superficially.

Death Penalty is somewhat equivalent to KAINGIN. While the punishment seems like forceful and swift but will not guarantee a long term solution to Coup 'd etat, rape, murder, corruption and other heinous crimes and cancers of our society. You cannot threaten somebody with an empty stomach. A hungry person knows one thing and has a one-track mind; that he will die if will not do something about his hunger.

Killing all these criminals will not eradicate this cancer of our society, UNLESS we deal with the very root cause of the problem. And you know what the root cause of all these problems is? Greed. If all of us can only learn how to moderate the greed that lives within us, no amount of worse punishment can curb these social cancer that enslave people not only in the Philippines but the world in its entirety. Now probably, you will be asking, “Then, how you will solve crimes if you are not in favor of Death penalty?"

In order for the Justice System to work in any country (not only in the Philippines), one should understand the 4 Pillars of Justice System.

1. Enforcement of laws
No sacred cow and no one is above the law. Enforcers such as PDEA Major Marcelino are a living example of how enforcers will enforce the rule of law

2. Prosecution of the offenders
Incorruptible prosecutors, zero tolerance to bribery. Prosecutors should be selected by an independent body such as JBC (Judicial Bar Council) and not presidential appointees

3. Judicial System
Did I say "NO TO BRIBERY?" People in the likes of Justice Hilario Divide, Jr. There are still people with integrity like him just waiting for the right moment.

4. Correction System
A penitentiary system that aims for complete rehabilitation of law offenders. No rich cow and no biased while in jail, NO VIP TREATMENT like what they extended to Claudio Tehankee, Rolito Go, Romeo Jalosjos, Ex-mayor Sanchez and the list goes on and on....and on.....and on

We don’t need DEATH PENALTY to deter crimes and we don’t need MORE LAWS for we have so many laws that are existing, just effective implementation of system is all we need to do. As I have said, we don’t need to reinvent the wheel.

Who Wants to Cast the First Stone?

In the Old Testament came the phrase; “An Eye for an Eye, A Tooth for a Tooth” as a form of punishment given during the time of Moses. The Muslims in the same way applies this concept of punishment lest anyone commits an offense against the teachings of Quran. Just recently, a news article from the internet reported that in Iran, three men convicted of adultery were sentenced to death by stoning. This form of punishment is strongly condemned by some Muslim human rights group in that country as the news report said and apparently, a law has been passed banning this inhumane way of punishment.

In Christian countries like the Philippines who proud herself as the only Catholic nation in Asia and yet, why these fellow citizens of mine are so hungry to shed the blood of the outlaws and offenders as if none of them had sinned? Didn't Jesus know that all of us are sinners when He said, "Let those who do not sin cast the first stone?" Jesus being said that didn't contradict the Law of Moses nor advocate for its dissolution. In fact he explained that the Law of Moses was given the way it was because of the stubbornness of the people that time being under the claws of sins. But when Jesus came to redeem us from sin that separates us from the Father, we were no longer under the claws of it, thus He told us all; “Go and sin no more.”

Jesus, in countless parables explains how the Law of Moses is subordinate to the Son as the Son is subordinate to the Father. The coming of Jesus and His way of dying in the cross ends man’s enslavement to sin, thus to die physically only means cessation of man’s physical body and judgment of all of us sinners is reserved to the “Supreme Judge” of all judges. It’s however unfortunate how people from the time of Moses until the present day continuously ignore the message that Jesus had shown us; that no one is righteous, not even one.

How easy for us to say who is right and who had done wrong in a world that is full of self-appointed righteous. But little did we know that no one is righteous among us, not even one. But if you think you are an exception, why don’t you cast the first stone?

But still I agree with death penalty..

:slap:

Hehe.

Romans 13

Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. 2 Consequently, whoever rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. 3 For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. 4 For the one in authority is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for rulers do not bear the sword for no reason. They are God’s servants, agents of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. 5 Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also as a matter of conscience.

6 This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.
