Guitar talk. . .

Master Call_of_Ktulu25.

Hello, sorry hindi po ako professional guitar luthier, but I can advice here about pickups....check page 419 of this thread.......

hello mga sir, it's good to see na may ganitong thread dito. i love playing guitar since nung matuto ako, I like fingerstyle dun ako nage-enjoy ngayon bale marami pa din ako gusto malaman.

Sir, I think you need to learn these things first before you can formulate your own chord

Staining Process…

Now is the staining part, you need:

a.) An oil base stain, in my case I use ACE Oil Base Stain na nabibili sa ACE HW Stores. I use Dark Walnut Stain. Please see pic below. The purpose of the stain ay palitawin/accentuate ung grain ng kahoy parang varnish and also seals the pores of the wood and protects the wood at the same time. Haluin muna ng maigi yung lata ng stain bago i apply sa body ng guitar just like any klase ng paint. Parang naghahalo kayo ng kape, circular then pa upward yung halo.
http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL767/13318575/24506287/408565420.jpg
b.) A clean lint free cloth, like ung mga pinaglumaan na cotton na damit.
c.) A brand new paint brush (1 inch) if possible.
d.) Gas mask kasi mabaho ung Stain (hehehe)

Process and Techniques:
Hindi ko po nakunan ung basswood ng guitar ko before staining, so I will cite some examples of typical basswood grains, some are boring looking some have grains if you are lucky enough. Please see pics below. Looks boring ung examples natin but once ma stain mo siya with the right process explained below, lilitaw ung ganda at natural grains ng kahit anung boring looking na wood.
http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL767/13318575/24506287/408714287.jpg
http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL767/13318575/24506287/408714289.jpg

a.) Now this is the technique with staining, the longer na hayaan nyong sipsipin ng kahoy ung stain, the darker it gets. In my application, medyo dark ng konti. So I apply the stain with the brush sa isang section ng guitar body then after 3 seconds punasan agad ng old cotton na damit. Then another section with the stain then after 3 seconds punas agad ng cloth, then so on so forth. I hope you get what I mean. If gusto nyo mas darker pa, try light staining then hang to dry, then another light staining pag natuyo na then hang again, then repeat the process layer by layer hanggang sa ma attain nyo ung desired darkness. Wag nyong hayaang tumagal sipsipin ung stain ng more then 10 seconds bago punasan, masyadong dark at natakpan na yung grain ang kalalabasan, mahirap pang kontrolin.
b.) Use the paint brush to stain. Paint in sections, for example sa front body muna, start at the left most areas, then ung middle areas then finish off with the right most areas sa front body then hang to dry for 30 minutes. Then ung back naman then hang to dry. Repeat the process, then ung sides naman then hang to dry. Gumawa ako ng alambreng hanger then sinuksok ko sa screw holes ng neck joint para ma isabit ko sya like the pic below.
http://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL767/13318575/24506287/408714299.jpg
c.) Now these are the end results, please see pics below.

Next is the Finishing.....

Finishing

Now the finishing process, para ma protektahan natin ung wood saka ung Stain kelangan natin I finish syempre.
I use this, usually nabibili sa mga Hahn gun store sa SM supermalls.

408714304.jpg

I decided to go with Tru-Oil due to the good reviews of the product. It is a very forgiving finish, in which you can easily correct your mistakes (just sand it again then start all over).

Advice:
At maiiwasan nyo rin ung mga spill over sa sides, I learned it the hard way .
Just make sure that you wipe it thinly using a lint free cloth (old cotton t-shirts will do na ginupit gupit into small squares), and spread evenly, watch for build ups and spill overs especially on the sides kapag nag apply ka sa either front or back. I used to do front and sides sa umaga after going home from work then hang to dry, then rest, then do the back sa gabi before going to work then hang it again to dry, then do the sides tomorrow morning ulit, so on so forth. When you complete this process, which is what I call as the first coat, then do it again, for the front and back and sides and that what I call the 2nd coat, so on so forth.

Before the next coat, lightly wet sand it with a 0000 steel wool, I used water with detergent soap as lubricant, nothing wrong with water, pigain nyo lang mabuti ung steel wool before sanding, para hindi mapasok ung mga screw holes

Wet Sanding
I will explain more in details yung tungkol sa wet sanding in between coats. This will ensure na ma remove natin ung imperfections from the previous coat para makuha natin ung mirror like finish pag nag bubuild up na yung coats.
What you need:
a.) 0000 steel wool or kahit 2000 to 5000 grit na liha
b.) Tabo or container na pwedeng paglagyan ng tubig.
d.) Magaang kamay, hindi kelangan mabigat or mag apply ng too much force sa pagliha.

Step by step:
a.) After your first coat ng Tru Oil, I mean natapos nyo ung front, back, and sides, and tuyo na for a minimum of 8 hours (in my experience, it feels dry to the touch pag mga 8 hours ng pinatuyo), do a light wet sanding.
c.) Isawsaw ang steel wool or liha sa tubig, then I sand ang surface ng guitar. Magaan lang ang pagliha at wag diinan. To do this sa front, back, and sides.

After the wet sanding, punasan ng tuyong malinis na basahan ung whole body ng guitar then hang to dry, mga 30 minutes. Then apply the tru oil again as I explained above in Orange, that is the 2nd coat, before the 3rd coat, wet sand again, then 4th coat, then wet sand again, then 5th coat, so on so forth. I did as far as 18th coat ditto sa guitar na eto.

This is the first coat

2nd Coat
408714242.jpg

3rd Coat – we can see na hindi pa na fifill up yung grain ng wood
408714243.jpg

4th Coat – starting to get shiny in here!!!

5th Coat
408714246.jpg

7th Coat – getting nice reflections!!!
408714248.jpg

8th Coat
408714251.jpg

10th Coat – yay!!!
408714259.jpg

I did until about 18th coat, sorry po hindi ko na nakunan hanggang 18th coat, I have to stop that time kasi something came up last December 2012, something really sad happened in my life, a loss of a loved one, so I had the guitar hanged for the whole December after the 18th coat, which turns out to be accidentally beneficial before polishing. Having the multiple layer of tru oil thoroughly dried definitely helps with the durability of the finish.

I had to move on after the lost, did a final wet sanding of steel wool to make it smooth before polishing, I did used 3M products…yung mga polishing compound ng 3M para sa mga autos, nabibili ko sa ACE Hardwares…may mga different grits din…parang paste/compound siya na nasa mga satchet….then bili din kayo ng mga micro fiber cloth or polishing sponges para sa pag polish. Pics below;
408715801.jpg

408715802.jpg

The guitar will have a Dimarzio D Sonic 7 in the bridge and an Air Norton 7 in the neck, Graphtech Black TUSQ XL nut and saddles, custom wiring din in which I will be able to series, parallel, and split each pickups then a Tree of Life w/ Hummingbird Jockomo inlay sticker.

Next is the assembly.

mga idol, me tamang tab copy ba kayo ng californication by red hot chilli pepper? Pa copy mga idol... Gusto ko kasing makuha to...

sir jepot22 nandyan ka pa ?? haha maraming maraming salamat sayo at nakapagdecide na ko ng gitarang kukunin ..it will be a good investment .. sa mga naghahanap ng gitara try nyo sa guitar pusher!. ..

Assembly:

Advises:

a.) After matuyo ng mga 1 month ung final coat ng tru oil at final wet sanding, It’s time for the reassembly ng mga guitar parts.
b.) Syempre, unahin natin iinstall ung neck. At least in my experience eto inuna ko.
408714285.jpg

c.) Then next is yung electronics endpoints (pickups, jack, bridge, etc.). Remember may ground wire na papunta sa bridge so kapag ininstall nyo ung bridge dapat nakaconnect sa bridge ung wire bago nyo iiscrew at ikabit ung mga saddles through the body. Ung wires ng pickups, dapat nakalusot na from the front to the back of the guitar’s electronic chamber.
f.) After maiconnect lahat ng electronics, iinstall na yung the rest ng mga parts (strap buttons, back plate cover, etc.)
g.) Then install strings, para matesting na natin ung electronics at pickups kung gumagana lahat ng positions ng 5 way switch depende sa wiring nyo. Kung gumagana ung mga volume and tone knobs.

Yo!

A.) Anung genre ng musika tugtugan nyo/mo, usually clean parts ba kalimitan or may distortion or both....ganu kabigat distortion, pang soft rock lang, hard rock, or all out metal?
B.) Bedroom player ka lang ba or nasa banda?
C.) Lidista ka ba or rhythm sa banda nyo?
D.) Kung may distortion tugtugan nyo, san manggaling distortion mo, sa amp ba o sa effects?
E.) Anung klaseng amp mo? Solid State o tube amp, may pre equalizer and post equalizer ba, or isang master equalizer lang? Kung two channels yung amp mo, clean and drive channels, may separate equalizer ba ung dalawang channels? May effects loop ba o wala ung amp mo, at series ba o parallel ung effects loop?
H.) At san ilalagay sa chain ang particular kind of effects: namely distortion/overdrive pedals, noise suppressors, wah-wah, harmonizer/pitchshifter, volume effects (tremolo or volume pedal, or compressor), modulation pedals (chorus, flanger, phaser, etc.), time/delay effects (delay, reverb), loopers, etc.

Mahaba habang topic eto mga Sirs....

Eto yung mga situation ko nun at mga experiences nung nagbabanda ako;

A.) First amp ko may built in overdrive but not enough for metal at walang effects loop, master equalizer lang, so i have to rely on distortion pedals and some effects like chorus, flanger, delay, etc. but wala akong pambili ng individual pedals like ung sa Boss brand, kaya bumili na lang ako ng zoom 606. Dito lahat ng nanggaling ng
distortion ko at some ambient effects.....

B.) Then nagkarun ako ng second amp na maybuilt in distortion na from overdrive to all out metal, two channels siya, clean and drive, separate equalizer at may parametric equalizer din sa mids sa drive channel pero walang effects loop. So even though may built in distortion na ung amp ko merun pa rin akong mga distortion pedals, reason mainly is, for versatility/flexibility. Then nangolekta din ako ng mga old modulation and time base effects ng Boss like DSD-2 digital delay, DD-2 digital delay din, BF-2 analog flanger, PH-1r phaser, RV-2 Digital Reverb, Line Selector LS-2, Noise Suppressor NS-2, GE-7 and GEB-7 graphic equalizers, etc. for my specific needs.

D.) Then nagkarun ako ng 3rd amp, same amp din like ung 2nd amp ko, mas mataas nga lang power output, dati 65 watts lang at iisa lang speaker, now and my current amp 150 watts naman at two speaker configuration, and this time may effects loop din, series. Kasi dahil sa effects loop mas mauutilize natin yung pre-amp and power section ng amp and their individual equalizers along with our effects and their ideal placement into good and advantageous use para mas lalo pa nating matweak ang ating tone.

Next time I'll try to provide general tips sa pag setup ng effects, their placement and connection, and anung ginagawa nila, at panu isesetup pag kasama na ang amp may effects loop man o wala, rules sa pagequalize ng amp at effects lalo na pag nasa band situation ka, etc.
