I used to do that whitelisting before (and even blacklisting at one point) for the same issues. Problem was, I need to verify each connection and new connections (for guests) just to know kung kanino 'yung device na ilalagay ko sa lists.
What I tried recently was just setup separate SSIDs for each purpose.
- 1 SSID in 2.4 GHz for Guests without 5GHz wifi capabilities, limited to only 8 devices.
- 1 SSID in 2.4 GHz for appliances, limited to the number of appliances na need i-connect. 'Yun lang ang purpose ng SSID na ito. Para hiwalay na connection.
- 1 SSID in 2.4 GHz for people na hindi naman extensive gumamit ng internet. In my case, sa mom ko. 2.4GHz lang para less issue with signal strength.
- 1 SSID in 2.4 GHz for personal devices limited to / can work fine on 2.4 GHz.
- 1 SSID in 5.0 GHz for Guests, if capable ng 5.0 GHz wifi connection ang device nila. Sometimes depende sa akin kung dito ko sila iko-connect. Limited to 8 devices.
- 1 SSID each for family members, with only 1 device allowed per SSID. In my case, tig-isa 'yung 2 kids ko. I gave them the passwords since pointless naman na i-share nila dahil 1 device lang ang ia-allow ng modem. This makes it easier for me to turn off SSID's individually like kung kailangan nang matulog 'yung isa while may tatapusin pang project 'yung isa. Though may Parental Control feature naman 'yung stock modem ng Globel, I find it easier to manage the connections this way.
- 1 SSID in 5.0 GHz for personal mobile devices.
You may clump/group people together if kulang ang allowed number of SSID's.
What I find useful sa ganitong setup is limited lang ang connected devices per SSID. I can easily turn of a connection at will. And password management is easier as I can work on each connection individually.
Hope it helps
