How to fix your dead flash drive [Solution is here]

One of my flash drives suddenly died today. It all happened when XP suddenly froze for some reason. after rebooting, the device was dead - XPdetected it as a 0mb device (and attempted to format it as such - which didn’t work)

After a little research I was able to revive the drive, and heres the procedure (pretty easy):

1.Download and install the HP Drive Key Boot Utility
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&swItem=MTX-UNITY-I23839&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN
2.Open the desktop icon and select the correct flash drive under device
3.Select the file system you want to format to (FAT, FAT32, NTFS)
4.Tick Quick Format
5.Click start

Officially this software (HP Drive Key Boot Utility) is meant for HP disks, but unofficially it seems to work fine at formatting most flash media, even digital camera cards.

type mo sa Run "format J:" ---> J: stands for your Drive/USB I.D. please use the Drive Letter given by your PC; J: is just my example. because in my Unit my USB flash Drive Letter is J:

click Ok > Hit Enter : count to 100% starts again hit Enter... Viola!! formatted na USB mo. no need for programs / applications..

i tried this one boss but ganun pa rin cannot be formatted because its write protected..any solution to this? aside from buying a new one?

died usb flash drive??? how about ung as in dead na dead talaga? hindi makita ng pc.. hindi umiilaw ung light ng flashdrive?? meron kc akong isang flashdrive na ganyan.. hindi ko na magamit talaga..

ung sakin nadedetect pa naman ng pc, ang problema, pag ia-access ko na ung laman, lalabas "insert a disk in drive f:".. hanggang ngayon di ko pa rin magamit... di rin maformat..

ito sakin lang pong solution sinubukan ko kasi and it helps napagana ko kahit anong ire revive kong mga gamit ko tulad ng memory card, ipod and hard drive...

first thing:
ilagay sa kahit anong sealed plastic tulad ng zip bag or kung wala naman plastic lang tapos i mask tape or kahit anong tape basta walang butas yung lalagyan...

second:
ilagay sa FREEZER ng kahit 30 mins or kahit 1 hour...

third:
kunin niyo after the elapse time at subukan...

ganito lang po talaga ginagawa ko sa pag REVIVE ng mga gamit ko nag ha hang or nagloloko na at yung mga HDD na malapit ng masira...

hope na nakatulong ako... paalala lang po ha "do it at your own risk"... gud luck po...

wala po bang magandang soloution jan??? ung hindi tlaga na dedetect ng PC ung FLASH DRIVE.....un po ung mas magandang problemahin....sana may makatulong sa problema namin heheh^_^

pag ayaw na talaga mabasa ng pc ang usb 'to ang gawin mo. try mong itali or idikit sa flourescent lamp ng 72hrs. ng tuloy tuloy (iwasang maoff ang ilaw) pagkatapos nun try mong isaksak ulit sa pc mo at makikita nya na yan at pede mo ng maformat ang usb mo.

Ha? 72hrs grabe at napakainit na ng lamp q nyan kapag ganyan... Hehe, by the way may nabasa nq katulad ng tinuro ni bjpp21... Sana may ibang solution bout sa write protected na usb ksi yun ang karamihang problema ng mga usb ngaun...

Dba hindi pa sira ang usb na na write protected dahil maayos namang nagagamit ang mga nka save sa usb q katulad ng lar0ng plant vs zombie..

mga kosa write protected nmn ang flash drive ko bigla.. pano po ba toh.. eh naturally namang walang switch ng write protect flash drive ko... pa help nmn po ng mga solutions nio pls.....
