Automatic OS Updates is a feature in Windows 10 that you cant turn off easily.. Windows 10 software updates install on your device automatically (whether you like it or not), but this guide can help you retake control and decide when to install them.
But I will teach you how to stop the annoying auto updates..
1. Meter your Internet Connection
(It Prevents Windows 10 from auto updating..0
Go To Settings > Network & Internet > Wifi > Advanced Options and turning Set Metered Connection on.
3. Disable Automatic Driver Updates
Right Click Start button and Click Control Panel > Go to System > Click Advanced system settings > Open Hardware and Click Device Installation Settings.. When prompted with a message, Click No and click Save Changes.
4. Prevent Auto Updates using the Local Group Policy Editor
(For Windows 10 Professional, Enterprise, and Education only)[May not Work after the Win10 Anniversary update]
Windows Key+R > type gpedit.msc > Browse the following Path:
-> Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update
Double Click the Configure Automatic Updates policy > Check the Enabled option to enable the policy > Under Options, Pick your chosen actions :P
The Options/Actions:
*2 - "Notify for download and notify for install."
*3 - "Auto download and notify for install."
*4 - "Auto download and schedule the install."
*5 - "Allow local admin to choose setting."
After You have Chosen Your Designated Option/Action Click Apply > Click Ok to Complete the task
5. Prevent Auto Updates Using the Registry
[May not work after the Win10 Anniversary Update]
Important warning: Editing the registry is risky, and it can cause irreversible damage to your installation if you don't do it correctly. It's recommended that you make a full backup of your computer before proceeding.
Windows key+R > type regdit and click ok > Browse the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
Right Click the Windows (Folder) Key, and Select New and then Click Key >
Name the new key WindowsUpdate and Press Enter >
Right Click the newly created key > Select new and Click Key > Name the new key AU and press Enter>
Inside the newly created key, right click on the right side > Select New, and click on DWORD (32-bit) Value.
Name the new key AUOptions and press Enter > Double-click the newly created key and change its value using one of the following options:
*2 - "Notify for download and notify for install."
*3 - "Auto download and notify for install."
*4 - "Auto download and schedule the install."
*5 - "Allow local admin to choose settings."
After You have chosen your Designated Option/Action
Click OK > Close the Registry to complete the task
6. Turn off Windows Updates in Services
Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools, Go to Services Window and Scroll down to Windows Update and Disable it..
To Disable it, Right Click on the Process and click on Properties and Select "Disabled" and You are Done!
