Brick
It's called a bricked PSP because the PSP basically becomes a brick. You can't turn it on, you can't do anything. It's just a big paperweight.
It's when the PSP stops working because;
1. you screwed up while updating the firmware. Do not turn the PSP off when it's installing the update.
2. When you try to downgrade the firmware version, and you screw up. The PSP firmware version normally can't be downgraded to an earlier version, but there are programs out there that will let you do it. If you do it wrong, the firmware becomes inoperable, and your PSP stops working.

2 Types of Brick

1. Full Brick - Cannot power on/turn on, cannot access/enter recovery menu
2. Semi Brick - Cannot power on/turn on BUT can access/enter recovery menu

You can still revive/UNBrick your PSP by using Pandora Battery and Magic Memory Stick (FULLY HACKABLE PSPs ONLY)

Pandora Battery
Pandora's Battery is a utility that utilizes your memory stick and battery to hack your psp.
It is also use to UNBrick bricked PSPs (FULLY Hackable PSPs ONLY)

here's a guide how to create Pandora Battery and Magic Memory Stick
Easiest way to create pandora/universal unbricker for beginners

Homebrew Enabler (HeN) - is a software program that allows homebrew to run on a PSP.

Unlike an eLoader, a Homebrew Enabler can launch homebrew that requires "kernel mode" to start (examples of kernel mode programs include ISO launchers and utilities that use the PSP's flash memory). A Homebrew Enabler can launch homebrew from within the PSP's XMB (xross-media bar or "home menu")--even within official firmware--but has to be re-intialized every time the PSP is turned on after having been shut off.

A Homebrew Enabler works by temporarily applying a patch to the PSP's RAM, thus allowing homebrew to run. It can also access and re-write the PSP's internal flash memory.

Now, what do I mean by "Hackable"?
That means you can install a Custom Firmware (CFW) on it. One way is by using the most popular Pandora Battery & Magic Memory Stick (MMS) and the other way is by running an application or cfw updater like PRO CFW.

NOTE:
All PSP Model is now Hackable, the question now is, IF the psp is "Fully" Hackable (CAN be UNbrick) or "Partially" Hackable (CANNOT be UNbrick)

Why Hack a PSP?
A Hacked PSP could run Homebrew, which are programs that have been developed by people that don’t have a contract with Sony. A PSP with Custom Firmware could also back up your games from the UMD to your computer; it also allows you to play those backups (Iso/Cso) from your Memory Stick (MS). You could also do some serious customizations to your theme (CTF Themes) and also you can install plugins that adds some usefull functions that is absent on a ofw psp. Basically, you free your PSP from the hands of Sony.

All 1000 Series or Phat/fat PSPs are fully hackable.
To some, there are other methods than just using a Pandora & and Magic Memory Stick (MMS).
(CAN be UNbrick)

The 2000 Series or Slim & Lite are a little complicated. There are old units, new units, & really new units. The old ones contain Motherboards released before the TA-088v3, and are all fully hackable. The new ones have TA-088v3 Motherboards, and are partially hackable. Finally, the really new ones, those have TA-090v1 Motherboards, which are fully hackable.
There are 7 different ways to tell whether a 2000 series PSP is hackable or not, but we'll get to that later on (and this is the main topic of this post/guide).
(NON TA-88v3 Mobo - CAN be UNbrick)
(WITH TA-88v3 Mobo - CANNOT be UNbrick)

The 3000 series or Brite PSPs, all of those have the TA-090v2 Motherboard, which are partially hackable.
(CANNOT be UNbrick)

The N1000 or PSP Go having the TA-091 which is also partially hackable.
(CANNOT be UNbrick)

The E1000 or PSP Street having the TA-096 which is also partially hackable.
(CANNOT be UNbrick)

So, now it's easy to tell whether a 1000 series and a 3000 series are fully hackable or partially hackable. The only complication is when trying to figure out a 2000 Series PSP. Whether you want to know before you buy it, or before you bother learning how to hack it, you choose the way that suits you best.

1- What is the Firmware the PSP came with?
The original firmware that came with the PSP right out of the box is an indication of its Motherboard, & here’s the list:
3.60 Official Firmware: Fully Hackable.
3.71 Official Firmware: Fully Hackable.
3.72 Official Firmware: Fully Hackable.
3.80 Official Firmware: Fully Hackable.
3.90 Official Firmware: Fully Hackable.
3.95 Official Firmware: Fully Hackable.
4.01 Official Firmware: Has a Very High Chance of being Partially hackable.

Any brand new PSP with Official Firmware higher than 4.01 is partailly hackable (Except for TA-090v1 Motherboards, & I’m not sure which Firmware comes with them).

If you updated to any Firmware, that doesn’t matter. This only applies on the PSP’s Original Firmware that it was shipped with.

As of today, version 6.60 is the latest official firmware for PSP.

here's the Sony PSP Official Firmwares

1 Version 1.5X
2 Version 2.0
3 Version 2.5
4 Version 2.6
5 Version 2.71
6 Version 2.80
7 Version 2.81
8 Version 2.82
9 Version 3.03
10 Version 3.11
11 Version 3.40
12 Version 3.50
13 Version 3.51
14 Version 3.52
15 Version 3.71
16 Version 3.72
17 Version 4.05
18 Version 5.02
19 Version 5.03
20 Version 5.50
21 Version 5.55
22 Version 6.00 (10 Sept 2009)
23 Version 6.10 (1 Oct 2009)
24 Version 6.20 (18 Nov 2009)
25 Version 6.31 (29 July 2010)
26 Version 6.35 (24 Nov 2010)
27 Version 6.37 (20 Jan 2011)
28 Version 6.38
29 Version 6.39
30 Version 6.60

2- What is the PSP's Serial Number?
The Serial Number is found on a label where the battery is supposed to go (As shown in the picture "SERIAL No.")
DSC07328.jpg

This isn’t something serious or very helpful, but with more research, it could be.
At the moment, it focuses mostly on Piano Black PSPs.
If that serial starts with HU2, then the PSP most likely has a TA-088v3 Motherboard (And that the PSP is Piano Black).
Any other serial (Say starting with HC or HB or HJ) doesn’t matter at the moment.

3- What's the unit's Identification letter (A letter on a label on the box that indicates what version it has)?
Here's a picture of a label found on the PSP box that has the letter on it:
DSC07329copy.jpg

Note that this label is only present on an original style box (The small, normal box. Not like those large "Limited Edition" Boxes).

Anyways, See the G there?

PSP-2000 CW
100v
G

That G is the letter in question. Here's a list of all the letters that the 2000 series ship with:

(No Letter) = 3.60
A = 3.71
B = Doesn’t exist
C = 3.72
D = Doesn’t exist
E = 3.80
F = 3.90
G = 3.95 (TA-088v1) / 4.01 (TA-088v2) / 4.01 (TA-088v3)

If the letter is absent or is from A to F, then it's fully hackable.
If it's a G, it's 60 to 67% Fully Hackable (Though since everyone is looking for the fully hackable ones & no one’s buying the partially hackable ones, I'd say that this percentage went all the way down to about 30% fully hackable).
Some Labels have an extra code written on it, usually “ss259”. That doesn’t matter, just look for the Capital Letter next to it.

4- What's the Box's Serial Number?
If your box doesn't have a label with a letter in it, like the G in the third method, then it should have a label with another serial that's not related to the PSP unit.
Note that American 2000 series (2001 PSPs) & Japanese PSPs (Both 1000 series & 2000 series) Don’t have those date codes on them, just like the 2001 Piano Black PSP pictured above.

The 2000 Series Date Codes go as follows:
7C: Fully Hackable.
7D: Fully Hackable.
7(Any later Letter): Fully Hackable.

8A: Fully Hackable.
8B: Fully Hackable.
8C: Has Very High Chance that it is Partially hackable.
8D: Partially hackable.

6 - using Module Checker and PSPIdent (CFW)

if your psp is psp2000 series and not sure if its a fully hackable or partially hackable and not sure if its a ta88v3 mobo or not, you can use Module Checker or pspident

PSP Module Checker

PSPIdent

For checking the Module of a PSP 3000 and other motherboard information in OFW environment, use Signed Module Checker

Module Checker v1.0 Signed

7- If it's a Limited Edition PSP, here's the list of the ones I know of so far:
Daxter Limited Edition Pack, comes with 3.80 OFW & a TA-085v2 Motherboard, and is hackable.
God of War Limited Edition Pack, comes with 3.95 OFW & a TA-088v2 Motherboard, and is hackable, & cool too
Madden 09 Limited Edition Pack, comes with either 3.95 OFW & a TA-088v2 Motherboard OR 4.01 OFW & a TA-088v3 Motherboard. If it's 3.95, it's fully hackable, but if it's 4.01, then it's not, as simple as that.

There is one method I'd like to say has nothing to do with whether the PSP is hackable or not:
The PSP series full number (2000/2001/20002/etc) just as seen in both pictures (2001 black PSP Slim, & 2000 White PSP Slim) Those have nothing to do with whether the PSP is hackable or not, it's just an indication of the region of the PSP.

Here's the list:

2000- Japan
2001- United States (American)
2002- Australia/New Zealand
2003- United Kingdom
2004- Europe/India
2005- Korea
2006- Hong Kong/Singapore
2007- Taiwan
2008- Russia
2009- China
2010- Mexico/Central/South America

Also, if a PSP is fully hackable, the Firmware on it has nothing to do with its Hackability.
Whether it had 1.00 Official Firmware, 4.00 Official Firmware, 4.01 Official Firmware, 5.00 Official Firmware, or even the latest 5.03 Official Firmware, if the 2000 series PSP doesn’t have a TA-088v3 Motherboard, then it is fully hackable and it CAN be UNbrick.

if you want to modify or upgrade your psp, i suggest to updgrade it to the latest firmware and install PRO CFW/PRO B10 oe ME/LME CFW/LCFW for best compatibility on games

PSP System Firmware Updater/PRO B10 Installation Tutorial

UPDATE! [RELEASED] CFW 6.60 ME-1.6 and LCFW 6.60 LME-1.6 by neur0n

if your psp is partially hackable and its under 6.20, i suggest to upgrade it to 6.20 PRO B10 because 6.20 is the only Permanent CFW for partially hackable psp,

for fully hackable psp, all PRO CFW is permanent

kung may kulang pa sa mga informations/facts about psp, post lang kayo dito or iPM niyo ako at idadagdag ko sa post, i'll try to update this thread if something new comes out for the psp,

enjoy psp playing! :D

If you like my thread or you find it very useful, kindly leave a post or feedback, :salute:

Re: [INFO] All About PSP also Problems/Questions/Help Thread

hindi naman sa wala ng updates sa psp, meron pa ding mga updates kaso lang hindi na ganun kalaki kasi up to the latest firmware is may cfw na at stable na din at dahil dun kaya siguro hindi pa sila nagrerelease ng Pro C, malabo pa magkaron ng cfw for ps vita ngayon, siguro mga 1-1.5 years pa un,
