Steve Nash bonds quickly with Kobe Bryant in his Lakers debut

FRESNO, Calif. – Steve Nash drove into the lane Sunday night, and just like in all those games from his days with the Phoenix Suns, he immediately drew a crowd. Three Golden State Warriors defenders collapsed on Nash, and suddenly, in the corner of Nash's eye, was Kobe Bryant, across the floor, wide open and waving. Nash rifled a pass to Bryant, who rose up and buried a 3-pointer.
Steve Nash had five points and three assists in his preseason debut with the Lakers. (AP)Yes, it was just a preseason game for these new-look Los Angeles Lakers. But the first Nash-to-Bryant assist also showed all the promise that could await them this season.
"He just makes the game easy," Bryant said later of his new point guard. "It's a joy for me. I've had to facilitate and score my entire career. I don't have to do that now and I'm pretty happy about it."
In Nash's first game with the Lakers, he and Bryant looked comfortable from the opening tip. The Lakers hope their relationship only continues to improve. In previous seasons, the Lakers too often watched as Bryant dribbled out the shot clock before taking a tough, contested shot. Nash also should be able to keep L.A.'s big men happy – or at least happier than they were when the offense ran only through Bryant's hands. Bryant can now spend his energy trying to get open, knowing that if he does, Nash will find him.
Few, if any, point guards have commanded Bryant's respect the way Nash can. Bryant also knows it's in the Lakers – and his – best interest to relinquish some control of the offense.
"He's a great all-around player," Bryant said. "He just picks his spots. He can still score no matter what the defense is going to give him. If [the defense] is not going to be honest, he's going to make them pay."
Bryant said he has so much confidence in Nash that he's going to leave it to Nash to "manage the team."
"He is always going to be Kobe," said Nash, who had five points and three assists in 14 minutes in the Lakers' 110-83 loss to the Warriors. "That's just his DNA. But at the same time he's willing to relinquish a little bit for the betterment of the group."
Dwight Howard sat out the Lakers' first preseason game as he recovers from back surgery. (AP)New Lakers center Dwight Howard sat out the game as he continues to make progress in his recovery from offseason back surgery. Rookie Robert Sacre, the last pick of this year's NBA draft, started in Howard's place and scored six points. Nash zipped one pass to Sacre through a defender's legs. Nash, Lakers coach Mike Brown said, made Sacre look like a third-year pro.
If Nash can do that for Sacre, what will he do for Howard, the NBA's best center?
"Dwight is going to be eating all day," Bryant said. "[Nash] is going to put defenses in a really tough position."
Lakers fans cheered when Nash walked onto the court before the game to shoot. Only Bryant received a louder ovation during player introductions. And the game's highlight came when Nash made a 3-pointer after sending Warriors guard Jarrett Jack stumbling with a crossover dribble.
"It was awesome," Bryant said.
Judging from the way Bryant smiled whenever Nash's name was mentioned, he's looking forward to a long, successful season playing next to the Lakers' new point guard.
"It felt pretty pretty good," Nash said of playing with Bryant. "It's been less than one week. We got a long way to go. …You never know what to expect, but I felt like it wasn't bad."

Musings from New-Look LA Lakers' First Preseason Game

here was a lot to be excited about Sunday in the Lakers' first preseason game versus the Golden State Warriors from Fresno, CA.

Playing the second unit the entire second half, Mike Brown and his team fell 110-83 to a hungry Warriors team to start the exhibition calendar.

But throw out the box score—it's preseason. The new-look Lakers we saw on the floor at the tip were as electric as could be.

It took all of five minutes for Steve Nash, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Metta World Peace and Robert Sacre (starting in place of the rehabbing Dwight Howard) to build a 10-point lead on the young Warriors and give Laker fans everywhere a glimpse of what's to come.

Enjoying this first game on Time Warner's new sports network, here are my random musings from the first preseason tilt.

Pau Gasol looked in phenomenal shape and was ready to start the season. His silver-medal performance in the 2012 London Olympics over the summer should carry over nicely into the 2012-13 season—similar to the championship start we saw to begin the 2008-09 season when he last spent the summer playing for his native Spain in the Olympics.

Speaking with the Time Warner SportsNet crew of Bill MacDonald and Stu Lantz during the second quarter, Dwight Howard coined himself a new nickname: "Iron Man." The Superman era is behind Howard, as he's embraced a new super hero—and quite fittingly. Before enduring back issues during the 2011-12 season, Howard only missed seven games in his previous seven seasons.

Steve Nash will make the offense easy for every player in a Laker uniform this season. Running the break and finding the open man off the dribble, Nash was spectacular in his limited play. His freedom under the Princeton offense to dribble-drive or swing the ball made for easy baskets during the first half. Nash even displayed some signature flair, tossing a beautiful between-the-legs bounce pass to a streaking Robert Sacre in the paint for two.

Entering training camp 20 pounds lighter, Metta World Peace displayed better command on the floor. By shedding the pounds, World Peace had an easy time getting to the basket and hitting the open three. It's quite a change from last season, when World Peace admittedly came into camp out of shape and overweight.

Believe it or not, Steve Blake looked almost 100 percent after suffering a freak foot injury over the summer. Playing significant minutes behind starter Steve Nash, Blake was active on the defensive end and facilitated the offense with the rock in his hand. Given more games under his belt, Blake should be ready to fully back up Nash to start the season on October 30th.

Robert Sacre and Jordan Hill will do a serviceable job filling in for Howard during his rehab. Sacre looked strong down low and was active around the rim. Hill settled for too many outside shots off the screen-and-roll, but true to form, he hustled and was active on the offensive and defensive glass.

New Lakers assistant coach and purveyor of the Princeton offense Eddie Jordan told Lakers reporter Mike Trudell that the team did a good job of swinging the ball and created easy shots on the weak side. Still, he admitted there was room for the team to gel and become more comfortable under this new system.

Other new additions Chris Duhon, Jodie Meeks, Antawn Jamison and Earl Clark were on the floor the majority of the second half when the team blew a 56-49 lead and allowed the Warriors to go on a 35-0 run through the third and fourth quarters. Chalk it up to the first preseason game, but the new additions will need more game time to get comfortable with their new team.

Above all, Kobe was Kobe. Yes, the Mamba—orthokine knee surgery or not—is still the biggest killer in the NBA.

Overall, as fans might attest, the gold never looked brighter than on the new-look Lakers during this Sunday start to the 2012-13 campaign.

Cheers all around, Nation—the Lakers' season has finally begun.

new d12 nickname......"iron man"........superman era is over.....

Steve Nash Running ‘Stress-Free Offense’?

For those who think (Steve) Nash’s mind and creativity will be muted with the Lakers, consider that (coach Mike) Brown said before the game that Nash can determine whatever he wants to run every time down the floor by where he goes and where he moves the ball. (For sure, though, the opposing defense will dictate to Nash — which is sort of the point of what Brown is promoting to his players as “a stress-free offense” dependent on proper reading and reacting.)

“Hopefully by December or January,” Brown said, “it will look very, very pretty.”

You’d better believe Nash is on a crusade for that — and it to be very, very effective.

Even though most of the offense isn’t in yet, Nash made things so pretty in the debut Sunday that (Kobe) Bryant said: “It was natural. Just real natural. Real easy” and so effective that Brown said of rookie last-pick-in-the-draft center Robert Sacre: “He made Sacre look like he was in his third year in the league.”

Re: Official LA Lakers Thread 2012-2013 Season

It got away from the Lakers in the second half last night, but the starters looked good in their limited duty. See what they had to say after the game.

Check out photos from the team's game in Fresno.

Re: Official LA Lakers Thread 2012-2013 Season

kaka excite na talaga ang season nila:D

Re: Official LA Lakers Thread 2012-2013 Season

But when the Lakers played with their starters in the first half, they showed that their chemistry looks strong. Steve Nash (five points, three assists) looked unbelievable throwing a cross-court no-look pass to Kobe Bryant, who then connected with Pau Gasol on an alley oop play. Nash also broke some ankles by shaking Jarrett Jack with a crossover that nearly made him fall before nailing an open three-pointer.

The Lakers also ran the revamped offense that includes elements of the Princeton system with fluidity. Rarely did the Lakers ever go into isolation sets. Each player appeared intent on following Steve Nash’s lead (five points, three assists) and finding the open player for a shot. Kobe Bryant, who posted 10 points on two of seven shooting and three assists, appeared intent on facilitating. The Lakers set strong screens and actually played off of them.

They routinely covered for each other on defense. The floor spacing gave plenty of room for Metta World Peace to operate outside and score 10 points on three-of-six shooting. It’s fair to say that this reflects how much calmer and easier it’s been for the Lakers to absorb Brown’s teaching concepts with more time and a solidified roster. As a result, the Lakers look a lot more exciting and fluid on offense than last year’s disaster.

yan makikita natin this season:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

purgada 18 mins pa lang yan.....what more kung 30-35 mins na
