@bagwis: meron po, and this is particular to branded laptops that are bundled with a "hidden" na recovery partition, as I have explained in one of my previous posts. Laptop po ang computer niya.
Yung recovery partition po kasi, it contains a legitimate/original/licensed copy of MS Windows. If you follow my conversation with Boopols, ang pinangtutukuyan namin is yung Recovery Partition kung saan usually may stored copy ng licensed/original/legitimate MS Windows. Ginagawa po ng mga manufacturers ng branded laptops, they put a copy of MS Windows in a "hidden" partition which they normally call the Recovery Partition. Purpose niyan is so that in the event na ang customer ay nagka-problem sa MS Windows and he/she decides to restore/reinstall a copy (while retaining the license that they paid for as part of the laptop purchase), they can easily recover it.
Yup, and as Boopols has mentioned, part ng trabaho ko is to support branded laptops, so ganun po talaga ang policy (and these things are published in the respective websites of the manufacturers, e.g. Dell, Lenovo, Samsung, HP, etc.).
Explanation:
Ang Microsoft, whenever they release MS Windows, binebenta nila yan through different "channels":
Kaya volume license, ibig sabihin, one CD/Installer/Product Key can be used multiple times to install and activate multiple PCs.
2. Retail: ito yung MS Windows that are sold "through the shelves" ("shelf" = retail store).
Going back...
Reason why I had to explain the above is para maging relevant ang conversation natin sa case ni Boopol, and to explain kung bakit "may kinalaman" ang "software" sa warranty niya, being an owner of a branded laptop that contains a copy of MS Windows (na OEM license ang product key nun).
1. Manufacturers will NEVER issue the product key of MS Windows to an end-user.
If the item is within warranty, the customer can ship it to the manufacturer (via their authorized service center) since only the manufacturers have the product key to reactivate MS Windows.
3. OR...in the case of newer laptops, what the manufacturers did is to create a "Recovery Partition". So with a "one-touch recovery" solution, the laptop will look for the hidden partition to reinstall and reactivate MS Windows.
Because of this model, if an end-user deletes that "hidden" partition (Recovery Partition), the end-user essentially tampers it, thereby voiding the warranty. If the end-user does this, and wants to have MS Windows reinstalled and reactivated, puwede pa rin. However, the manufacturer will already charge a fee (kaya dun nila pinanghuhugutan kung under warranty pa ang product or hindi).
These things are freely published by manufacturers sa websites nila sa Warranty Terms and Conditions so this is not a secret.
P.S.: sa talakayang ito, we are not including "pirated" MS Windows ha. Usapang legal copy lang. Of course, Boopols can always pirate a copy and never have to worry about warranty and freely do whatever he wants with his "hidden" or Recovery Partition.
@Boopols: as long as the Recovery Partition is kept intact, the warranty should not be void. Yun nga lang, medyo "masikip" ang gagalawan ninyo since 3 partitions lang ang puwede ninyong galawin (the 4th partition kasi is the "Recovery" partition).
Bakit kasi tinangal ng ubuntu ung wubi? Sa linux mint meron pang mint4win... Mas madali iuninstall...
It's not Ubuntu's fault: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI. Also, the "wubi" method of install is not designed as a "permanent" way of installing Ubuntu. Read more about it in my previous/old post: http://www.symbianize.com/showthread.php?t=261361&page=77.
ask ko lng po .. nagformat po aq laptop from windows 8 to ubuntu 13.04 un back up ko nasa d tpos nag install po aq C . panu ko po kya ma mmount un Drive D ko kasi error on mounting po nka Ntfs.
Easy Way: make sure you're connected to the Internet and run "Update Manager". Parang "Windows Update" kumbaga. It will update your system and kasama na dun yung tools/drivers needed to mount an NTFS drive/partition/filesystem.
Geeky Way: open Terminal and edit /etc/fstab. Pero based on your post it looks like bago kayo sa Ubuntu. Dun po muna kayo sa "easy way"...tutal eh parehas lang na "two points" yun, whether simpleng jump shot or paikot-ikutin sa katawan ang bola.
