[TUTORIALS] Ubuntu (a Debian/GNU Linux Distribution)

Good to hear. :)

Ubuntu 13.10 will be released this month.

10.04 = 2010, April (LTS release)
10.10 = 2010, October (Regular release)
11.04 = 2011, April (Regular release)
11.10 = 2011, October (Regular release)
12.04 = 2012, April (LTS release)
12.10 = 2012, October (Regular release)
13.04 = 2013, April (Regular release)
13.10 = 2013, October (Regular release)
14.04 = 2014, April (LTS release)

Tapos yung name convention/format nila is: Adjective_Animal, and alphabetized (from A to Z)

Lucid Lynx
Maverick Meerkat
Natty Narwhal
Onieric Ocelot
Precise Pangolin
Quantal Quetzal
Raring Ringtail
Saucy Salamander
etc.

Here's an article that formally explains it: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DevelopmentCodeNames

nila ng new version also it named after animals...:)

Year and month po ang format, as written in the official article/link that I provided in my previous post. No "Day" in the number. :)

14.04 = 2014, April (Year-dot-month)

Here's the link (again): https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DevelopmentCodeNames

To quote:

Release Naming Scheme
The official name of an Ubuntu release is "Ubuntu X.YY" with X representing the year (minus 2000) and YY representing the month of eventual release within in that year. Ubuntu's first release, made in 2004 October (10th month) was Ubuntu 4.10. Since the actual release date is not known until it's ready and humans tend to prefer names rather than numbers, a set of codenames are used by developers and testers during the buildup to a release:

Meaning, Ubuntu 12.04 was released on April, 2012.

This is how i solved that kind of problem with my ubuntu and debian base distro on my netbook samsung...

i'm not sure if this will solve also your ubuntu distro problem coz im using 13.04(raring) now.

Note:Backup all files kasi delikado ang procedure maybe if you done wrong ayaw ng mag open yung OS mo...

open and edit your /etc/default/grub

hanapin mo ang line na ito,,
Code:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quite splash"

add this to that previous line
Code:
acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor

so the final edited line should be like this
Code:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quite splash acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor"

then save the file

update grub

Code:
sudo update-grub

reboot....
