[TUTORIALS] Ubuntu (a Debian/GNU Linux Distribution)

nung dating karmic pa to .. i installed kde .. oks naman .. then i upgrade to lucid .. un naging ganun na ... :slap:

Naku.

To explain: kaya ko tinanong kung "patong" method or "solo" method is....kung gagawin mo yung solution na "delete ~/ .kde folder" na kung saan "patong" method ang install mo, madadamay yung ibang *buntu (which is nangyari na nga). Ang balak kong i-suggest sana ay mag-create ka lang ng bagong username, and then delete mo yung old username. :)

Sa chat tayo, add mo ako sa YM (topet2k12001) para i-solve natin. :)

Hi Friend,

In Ubuntu, installing applications using that method is not the new method, as well as not being a user-friendly method. Linux has been made so user-friendly at this age and time na halos parang Windows na lang...just "point-and-click" your mouse and you're good to go. :)

EDIT:

Assuming the application you plan to download via tar ball is also available in the Software Center, installing an application via Software Center or tar ball produce the same results. Pareho lang sila. So no need na magpakahirap na mag-tar ball. :)

ung file na ms-sys-2.2.0.tar.gz, Linux program for writing Microsoft compatible boot records.

Okay, got it. 32-bit ba or 64-bit ang balak mo?

Windows = .zip or .rar....Linux = .tar.gz.
Windows = .exe or .msi....Linux = .deb.

Based sa description ng file...parang ang ginagawa nito is to fix your Master Boot Record...try mo muna yung binigay kong link kanina. :)

sudo nautilus
it will be asking for your password and please be careful because it will open your file manager under root you don't want to be deleting important files and folders here!, then navigate to file system usr>lib folder tapos drag and drop nyo yung folder na in-extract nyo inside lib folder then close it, to create a launcher on desktop, right click anywhere on desktop tapos click on create launcher then name the Application and on the command box click browse and navigate to the folder path filesystem>usr>lib>name of the folder then choose the click on the name of your apps!.. that's about it!.. you may use your own icon of choice on the icon launcher apps ;)

Hi Arvin,

Ang mahirap na part is to build the extracted files from source. :) Kaya as much as possible ang pinapahanap ko is sa Ubuntu Software Center muna. Pag wala, .deb naman. Last resort na lang yung tar ball...isa pang problem ng tar ball, it doesn't tell you if you need dependent files. It assumes na alam mo kung kailangan mong mag-download ng dependent files and alam kung saan kukunin. Sa .deb naman, since GUI-based siya, it will tell you if the file you are installing has dependent files and it tells you kung anu-ano yung mga files na yun. :) The best thing is, if you are connected to the Internet, when you install a .deb file that requires dependent files it will automatically find them and install them as well for you. :D

One example of .deb usage was when we helped gineanne set up WINE. http://www.symbianize.com/showpost.php?p=3937378&postcount=947. As we can see, sasabihin agad ng .deb Installer (Gdebi ang name ng installer na ito) kung may kulang na files, and kung ano yung names ng files.

after ko kc ma unpack need pa ma compile ung file..

ganito kc maki2ta sa installation nya:

Installation:
Step 1, unpack the archive: tar -xzvf ms-sys*.tgz
Step 2, compile: cd ms-sys make
Step 3, become root and install su (and give password) make install.

Exactly, yan ang hassle sa tar ball. Mano-mano yan. Check mo yung post sa taas (with pictures), makikita mong mas madali pag .deb ang dina-download. :)

ah.. ok I thought someone was just interested on how to install .tar.gz file on ubuntu.. pero I agree with you it is better to install apps from the Software Center, madali din syang i-uninstall ;)

YEAH Chromium B.S.U is a very cool game too! hehehe kaka-install ko lang din thanks for the info! :D...

FretsOnFire?.. hehehe.. parang gitara? I use to play for a Heavy Metal band during my College days pero I play the Drums!.. pero mukhang masaya 'to!

Nakakabobo, or nabobobo? :D

So, nag-insert ba yung friend mo ng Boot CD ng Windows niya? Kasi ang next step dun, pupunta siya sa Recovery Console para i-repair ang bootloader and then restart and then tapos na. :)

EDIT:

Finally, it could be a hardware issue (bad/corrupted CD, motherboard, or cables): http://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-1878326.php
Tingnan mo dito, friend...nung pinalitan niya yung CPU niya, naayos na ang problem. :) http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=896927&page=1

Friend, Genuine ba ang CD niya? Achaka wala pa bang gasgas? Might want to check that as well.
