[TUTORIALS] Ubuntu (a Debian/GNU Linux Distribution)

thanks po dito sa thead n ito... im using wubi... nag aaral muna mag ubuntu before i completely install it... salamat po malaking tulung sa newbies ktulad ko sa ubuntu...

Welcome to the thread. :)

Wubi is okay; it acts like a real installation. The only limitation is performance (siyempre hindi siya kasing bilis ng totoong installation - unless your computer is Quad Core or above), and another limitation is that you can only set up to 30GB space for it. Pag medyo comfortable ka na, then you can try a real installation. May mga ibang bagay kasi na hindi mo matututunan about Linux kapag Wubi ang gamit mo, like how to manually set up a dual or multiple-boot configuration, how to manually set up partitions, how to properly set up the Bootloader (GRUB2), etc.

Nagbasa basa ako ngayon about linux, linuxmint daw yung recommended nila for beginner / newbie.

Hi Friend,

In a regular Ubuntu, simply go to the Ubuntu Software Center and search for "Ubuntu Restricted Extras".

So imagine, sa Linux Mint nilagay lang ang Ubuntu Restricted Extras as pre-installed para kapag dinownload ng mga users eh hindi na nila kailangang gawin. In a general scope parang ganun lang ang ginawa sa Ubuntu para maging Linux Mint. :)

@ sir topet

"No valid VPN Secrets" is usually caused by changing some settings without restarting the computer (or without restarting the network-manager-service). Try restarting your computer and let us know.

Hi Friend,

To get you started in understanding what Linux is (and what it can/cannot offer), you may want to start with these reading materials:

http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntucat...ul-migration-strategy-from-windows-to-ubuntu/
http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/hiner/ubuntus-two-big-advantages-over-windows-and-mac/5556

There are a lot of other reading materials on the Internet which you may read if you wish. But the most important thing that I can share to you is that it's simply difficult to tell whether "blue" is better than "pink" (hope you get what I mean). In other words, Microsoft and Linux and Mac are all different from each other. Each of them offers something and each of them have limits. The bottomline is that it depends on a person's needs and preferences. :)

On the other hand, if you have difficulty choosing, you can have both Microsoft and Linux in one computer anyway (dual-booting). Ika nga nila, why choose when you can get all of them? :)

Well...although Ubuntu is my favorite, I make recommendations based on a person's needs. Let's start with asking what your computer specs are, as well as the brand and model.

Okay naman ang Unity, although originally it was intended for small screens (netbooks) and touch screens. I had the chance to install it in one of the laptops at work na touch screen (Lenovo S10-3T). Pero for my home desktop, I start my computer using the "Desktop Edition".

Sir topet, have you heard about linux box?

It's my first time to hear, that's why I googled it and read some lines about it.

Kaso, I don't know where to start.

"You're project is Linux Box" - Yan lang sabi ng instructor namin eh.. ahehe

Hi Friend,

In the computing sense of the term, when they say "box" they mean the CPU tower (motherboard as well as other components like processor, hard disk, RAM, video/sound cards, etc.)...tama ba ang pagkakaintindi ko?

1. Kung tama ang pagkakaintindi ko...ibig bang sabihin ng instructor ninyo ay gagastos kayo out of your own pockets to build a PC?
Or basta gumawa lang?
