actualy 3 days ko pa lang na instal ang ubuntu as guest os.. and i've been reading this post. im a super noob sa ubuntu. may question po ako, sa installation ng gui base na application..

Ah. You want to install WEPCrackGUI (para may GUI app ka and hindi mag-command line for aircrack).

You have to update the repositories first. In Terminal, type:

sudo apt-get update

...para ma-update lahat ng repositories (repositories: ito yung mga online na "bodega" na naglalaman ng mga apps na pang-Linux). And then...

sudo apt-get upgrade

...kumbaga sa Windows, katumbas ito ng "Windows Updates". Siyempre upon first installation of Windows, diba yun ang unang ginagawa natin...so ganun din po sa Linux. Medyo matagal po ito ha (as in kagaya ng Windows Updates). Ito muna po ang mga unahin natin.

Most of the tutorials that you need to get you started are at Page 1, by the way. Yun muna po, wag muna tayo magmadali sa paggamit ng aircrack. Bale set up muna natin nang mabuti ang Ubuntu mo para walang hassle.

I see...by the way please post only in one thread, kami at kami rin naman po yung mga yun. Hirap po kasi mag-manage ng multiple threads. Anyway dito ko na lang po sagutin:

Based sa post ninyo sa kabilang thread, balak ninyo makuha ang mga files for installing WINE ano po. Try this method: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1900550. Hindi na kayo gagamit ng Keryx (in case nahihirapan kayo sa Keyrx). Sa tutorial na yan, it assumes na naka-install na ang Synaptic Package Manager ninyo. Kung hindi pa at balak din ninyo ang offline method, ito ang gagawin ninyo: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1901446 (at kasama na rin diyan ang offline na method for updating Repositories).

You may also want to look into the method of using "Remastersys". Para kang gagawa ng sarili mong "version" or "remix" ng Ubuntu mo...meaning "ide-design" mo kung ano yung mga apps na kasali/hindi kasali before it gets burned into a CD. Naisip ko lang since nabanggit ninyo na sa office ninyo gagawin tapos mabilis naman ang DSL. Para pag-uwi, may ready-made installer na kayo wherein kasama na lahat ng apps, drivers, etc. na gusto ninyo at the point of installation pa lang.

yup. gui muna ako kasi nasanay ako sa windows.. na update ko naman nong una ako mag install ng ubuntu. yung sa system na click update lang pero di sa terminal. pro anyway try ko ulit later.

By the way, may "bug" sa kernel ng Ubuntu 10.10...lagi kang naka "negative one" (-1) na channel kaya nahihirapan ang aircrack makasagap. Pero may fix yan. Pinakamadali is manually mong pipiliin ang channel ng target network mo. If you want a more complex solution you may want to learn how to install patches kasi may gumawa na ng "negative 1 patch" (pang-ayos ng -1 channel issue when cracking with aircrack-ng). Since hindi naman ako nangka-crack ng network ng iba, hindi ko na ginawa ang complex method. Ginagawa ko lang kasi ito sa router ko for learning purposes, kaya alam ko kung anong channel ko ise-set manually sa aircrack-ng na commands.

Sa Ubuntu 10.04 wala ang "bug" na yan. Sa Ubuntu 11.04 and 11.10 andun pa rin ang bug. So meaning nandun siya (yung "bug") sa newer kernel versions.

kung naka ubuntu 11.10 ka walang package ng kahit anong qyoto sa official repo.

Pareho lang po. Yung Update Manager ay ginawa para may GUI (Graphical User Interface) version ang "apt-get" na command (para hindi Terminal). Para point-and-click ka lang with the mouse.

Pero siyempre mas mabilis sa Terminal kasi walang graphics, as in black box lang and text. Mapapansin ninyo yun as you go along.

This command will install new version of an application. For example when you

Then there were applications that were not upgraded because they were new installs. This usually helpful when new application needs to be install ex. kernels.

sir pa help.. nag update ako kagabi ng ubuntu, nasa kalagitnaan nku ng update (57%) tapos na disconnect ako. tapos pag open ngayon di naku maconnect sa wireless connection ko.. im using windows right now. same machine. pero dito ok naman, connected naman sa wireless network.. meron ba ang ubunto ng like sa windows na system restore? Sir baka hindi kasi installed ang wireless drivers (hindi lahat ng wireless receivers, ay mai-install agad ang wireless driver sa Ubuntu upon installation). Kabi muna ninyo through physical Internet connection (a.k.a. cable). Tapos i-run ninyo ang "Update Manager" (parang Windows Update), achaka "Additional Hardware" pang-update ng driver ng wireless receiver, sound card, etc. Typical ito lalo na sa ilang Broadcom chipsets ng mga wireless receivers.

Um, clarify ko lang para siguadong walang confusion:

"upgrade": this upgrades existing/currently-installed apps to the latest version.

"dist-upgrade": this command may install a package/app that has never been installed prior, and also does what "upgrade" can do. Typically this command is used for upgrading let's say, to the next Ubuntu version. If the next/higher Ubuntu version has apps na currently eh hindi naka-install sa current version ng Ubuntu mo, mai-install siya.

As for kernels...kahit "upgrade" lang makakapg-install ng newer kernel version ang Ubuntu.

actually gumagana sya dati, noong time lang din na disconnect ako sa kalagitnaan ng update ko.. gumagana ang hardware ko properly ( i think) kasi nakakasagap naman ng ibang network yun nga lang di sya maka connect. sinubukan ko din input ulit ang pass pro away ma connect.

Exactly. Kaya ko po ni-advise na mag-try muna gamitan ng Update Manager and "Additional Drivers" na app kasi naputol po yung pag-update. Baka mamaya isa sa mga updates na yun is driver update. No harm naman in trying again, basic troubleshooting lang (rule out the non-causes so we can focus on the real cause of the problem).
