[TUTORIALS] Ubuntu (a Debian/GNU Linux Distribution)

Anong masasabi nyo?

Ah, that one. Napanood ko na yan dati pa. Yeah, most likely. Pero I don't think so. "Purist" kasi si Richard Stallman (from the rootword "pure"...as in gusto niya "as pure as possible" na Linux, which lives up to the core principles of Linux and Open-Source).

Here, let me share an interview with Marth Shuttleworth of Canonical/Ubuntu.

...to quote:

On accusations that Canonical ignores the open source community:Mark Shuttleworth-> "I think breaking new ground requires a certain stubborn willingness to pursue an idea that is unpopular. Sometimes, that means stubbornly being wrong, and if one is afraid of being wrong, one will likely not break new ground.

"I also think that there is an interesting evolution as one moves from the fringe to the center. When we started Ubuntu, we took a lot of difficult decisions.... Yet those very decisions made Ubuntu so popular.

"At the end of the day, I think what matters is that every part of Ubuntu has leaders who are trusted to make such hard decisions. They will piss people off. But if they were leaders who could not make choices that pissed people off, then they could not make choices at all, and that's no leadership."

He is the Christ in computing world. Ang kakaiba lang Christ offered his life to save the world while stallman offered his work to save the world...:)

He is fighting for freedom almost 30 years.....Imagine 30 years(prevention is better than cure)..But kunti lang ang nakikinig so ito tayo ngayon keep on protesting to our freedom on net hehehehe!

Noon sharing is good
Ngayon sharing is piracy

...just to be clear: libre ("free") in software terms, as defined by Stallman himself, means "freedom" and NOT "free" as in "walang bayad" or "free beer/free lunch". :) In other words: freedom to see the source code, share it, and enhance it. Just wanted to ensure na klaro po tayong lahat by the term "free" or "freedom" sa usaping Linux/software.

To be specific, ang batikos ni Stallman about Canonical/Ubuntu is the inclusion of proprietary stuff (i.e. "ubuntu-restricted-extras") in a Linux Distro...as well as inclusion of "ad-based" programs/software that "tend to monitor consumer behavior" as well as "extract consumer information without consent".

:) With the "radical" decisions that Canonical/Ubuntu has made (inclusion of proprietary blobs, ad-based ek-ek, etc.) at least may isang Linux distro na kayang maka-enganyo ng mga long-time MS Windows users.

However, minsan sabi nga nila: "sometimes you have to lose today's battle to win the long-term war". Minsan kailangan mong makasabay otherwise maiiwan ka.

You can use fdisk na command. Pero meron namang GParted ang Ubuntu na built-in sa Live CD (and it is recommended that you are booted in the Live CD when partitioning disks, not recommended to partition disks while it is "in use" by an Operating System)...just curious why you want to do it in Terminal? Unless...you are installing Ubuntu Server or Arch Linux (which do not have a GUI to begin with)?

Kung disk cloning na command line, use the "dd" command. But be very careful when using this...incorrect usage may result to accidental deletion of data.
