Career shifter ako (Industrial Engineering to IT) and I gross 100k monthly.
2011 ako grumaduate and nagwork ako as IE for 4 years. Imagine pinaka-malaki kong sahod is 17k monthly and 6 days pa ang pasok ko from 8am-5pm. So what I did was assess kung ano strength ko, which is data analysis, and i am also good in MS Excel. I searched kung anong mga job na nagrerequire ng data analysis and excel, then I found Business Intelligence. Chineck ko ano pa required nyang skills to land that job, which is SQL. I searched for SQL tutorials sa google and after 3 months of learning that tool I landed my first job as a Business Intelligence Analyst. My starting salary as a BI is 24k, which is a huge jump from 17k. Then for the first 3 months halos sumuko ako kasi sobrang daming tools ang hindi ko alam, like Tableau, PowerBI, Qlikview, Jasper Reports, Pentaho Integration etc etc. Pero sa kagustuhan kong baguhin yung buhay ko, tsinaga ko aralin lahat ng yun. Then after 1 year na-raise yung salary ko to 35k. Then nag-resign yung Senior BI namin, and since ako yung pinakamasipag and pinakamalupit na BI (ahem) that time, ako yung napromote na Senior BI. After 6 months (kasi probi ako dun sa bago kong position) nagkaraise ulit ako sa salary which is naging 50k (malupitang negotiation ang nangyari dito). Then early 2018, may kumontak sa akin and they are looking for a qlikview developer, so I tried and got hired. Ang asking ko dun is 70k and binigay naman nila. Then nag-resign ako then my employer that time countered for a higher salary, and the other employer countered more. In the end, nanalo yung should-be employer ko which is current employer ko na (I ended up hitting 100k after those negotiations).
So ang suggestion ko lang is if passion nyo is with computers/ programming language and tech savvy naman kayo, it is never too late to switch careers. Age is just a number. What we really value is yung skill ng tao to understand and yung eagerness para matuto.
Sorry mejo mahaba.
