Coming in 2012, Nintendo's next home console will deliver "deeper game experiences" that aim to offer "something for everyone." And it'll be called the Wii U! A variety of new controls will be made available by that crazy new controller with a 6.2-inch touchscreen embedded in it. Most importantly, you'll no longer be tied to a TV to enjoy your home consoling action -- the Wii U controller can handle your gaming session when the television is needed for other purposes, while a built-in front-facing cam will let you video chat from anywhere too. Notably, you won't have to use the 6.2-inch behemoth if you don't want too -- the Wii U will be compatible with all current-gen accessories and software. Yes, your expansive Wii collection will play on the U version of the console as well. We've also seen some decidedly high-def visuals from Nintendo showing off the Wii U's graphical prowess. See video of the unveiling after the break!

Batman: Arkham City, an Assassin's Creed game, Dirt, Ghost Recon Online, Tekken, Metro Last Light, Aliens Colonial Marines, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, and Darksiders II all got a mention as coming to the Wii U. Yes! EA's John Riccitiello just said the Wii U will deliver "brilliant HD graphics." Finally, the Wii is going HD!

Speaking of HD, the fact sheet from Nintendo informs us that the Wii U can pump out 1080p video over HDMI. It'll also be compatible with component, S-video and composite cables. There'll be "internal flash memory" of unspecified quantity, which will be expandable via either an SD card or external USB HDD. IBM is, as with the original Wii, once again responsible for providing the processor inside. Four USB 2.0 slots are made available, while game media will be served up on "proprietary high-density optical discs." There's also another, worthwhile, reminder that the Wii U will play Wii games and their optical discs without a problem.

Re: All about Wii U

@arjay,

uu nga kagandahan nito pag gusto manuod ng nanay mo ng telenovela pwede mo palipat yung channel tapos yung nilalaro mo pwede mo makita sa controller, hehehe

Re: All about Wii U

Re: All about Wii U

Kita ko 'to sa news kanina ok nga eh tamang tama sa wii ko hehehe

mas kamukha niya yung galaxy tab na nilagyan ng buttons at analog sa gilid, lol

Re: All about Wii U

mukang mabigat yan, compared sa normal controllers, pero IIRC, depende sa games, pede syang maging separate handheld. Kinda like rumors i heard back when PS3 was yet to be launched, how it's going to support PSPs as controller. siguro, play main game on wii U, then may mga mini-games/mini-quests sya sa controller.

reminds me of dreamast controllers, evolved nga lang yung ngaun

NEW NINTENDO WII U...soon to be released!

At the recently held E3 Expo, Nintendo introduced the Wii U, the successor to the highly successful Wii game console.

The Wii U includes a new controller with a 6.2-inch touch screen. It’s augmented reality system makes direct interaction between the touchscreen and the television possible, although the controller is not a separate handheld gaming device. In addition to the 6.2-inch screen, the new controller also features an accelerometer and a gyroscope, a rumble feature, an inward-facing camera, a microphone and speakers. Adding these features to the Classic Controller button scheme – two analog Circle Pads, +Control Pad, A/B/X/Y buttons, L/R buttons and ZL/ZR buttons.

Wii U combines motion-sensing game play and supports 1080p HD graphics via HDMI. It’s also compatible with component, S-video and composite cables. The Wii U will have internal flash memory which will be expandable via an SD card or external USB HDD. Processor is courtesy of IBM.

The device will have four USB 2.0 slots and game media will be via high-density optical discs which will hold up to 25GB of data. Graphics is said to be courtesy of an AMD Radeon HD GPU.

Here’s a video trailer courtesy of IGN.

Each Wii U console comes with the new controller and can also use up to four additional Wii Remote or Wii Remote Plus controllers. The system is backward compatible and can play all Wii games and use all Wii accessories.

The Wii U will be available “sometime in 2012”. Price has not yet been revealed.

wow!!..magkanu kaya to?..

Re: Wii U Official Thread

ubisoft-e3.jpg

Ubisoft today showed that they’re the biggest Wii U supporter out there, revealing 8 Wii U games that are in development for the system. We’ve previously known that the company was betting big on the new console, and during today’s E3 press conference, they revealed their support with these games:

Ubisoft Wii U games
•ZombiU
•Assassin’s Creed 3
•Just Dance 4
•Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth
•Rabbids Land
•Rayman Legends
•Sports Connection
•Your Shape: Fitness Evolved 2013

The company also confirmed that all of these titles will utilize the new Wii U GamePad controller in some way. Of those 8 titles, there aren’t many Wii U exclusives — ZombiU and Rayman Legends are the on game that will be exclusive to the new Nintendo console. Another thing that Ubisoft revealed was that all games will only support one Wii U GamePad controller. The company also plans to integrate the new Miiverse network into their games.

wii-u-pro-controller.jpg

Nintendo just wrapped up their Nintendo Direct video stream, where they talked about the Wii U, and some of the new features for the console. They revealed that the official name for the controller is the Wii U GamePad, and revealed that the controller supports dual analog sticks that are clickable, the NFC technology, and much of what we already knew. They also added that the GamePad will be able to work without the TV screen at all, and that there’s a button to switch between the TV and controller. In one of the videos, a black Wii U was also showcased, which could indicate several Wii U models at launch.

Wii U Miiverse
Another thing that was announced was Miiverse, which is a sort of social network for the Wii U, Miiverse lets players connect their Miis with their online friends, post status updates, share screenshots and videos, and more. Players can also use the Wii U stylus to send handwritten messages to friends, or to even send drawings. the Miiverse is standard on the console as part of the Wii U operating system.

Wii U Pro controller
Finally, the company also unveiled the Wii U Pro Controller, which features advanced button layout for those who want a more classic controller to play their games with. The Wii U pro controller is expected to be sold separately and won’t be bundled with the Wii U console. Nintendo also teased about the “powerful Wii U hardware”, which they said will be showcased next week during E3.

We’ll have a detailed report on all of the announcements made during the presentation, but it looks like Nintendo is setting itself up for a big E3 this year.

very like yung wii u pro controller, feel na feel yung gaming para dito, hehehe, at mukhang eto na lang bibilhin ko kesa ps3, hahaha, astig magkakaroon din ng batman arkhan city dito, sana pati batman arkham asylum din sana

Wii U getting achievements, cloud storage, social networking

The Wii U will be getting achievements, cloud storage, social networking, avatars, and much more, according to a developer Wii U Daily spoke to. The source, working at a European development house with several Wii U projects in the pipeline, says Nintendo will unveil many of the new Nintendo Network features at E3 next week. Here’s a run down of the rumored features:

Wii U achievements
Nintendo will introduce an achievement system where players can earn achievements in games much like Xbox Live and PlayStation Trophies. However, Nintendo is said to be expanding the service where players who accumulate a certain amount of points get access to additional features. “We have a lot of freedom with the Wii U points system, we can add “brackets” for players, e.g. if you amass X points you get promoted into a new bracket with awards such as new MP [multiplayer] skins”. While the source called the feature “Wii U points”, he made it clear that Nintendo hasn’t settled on a name. “It’s basically what we’ve been asking Microsoft to do for years. Players who earn points by completing the game should be awarded. We can do that now”.

Wii U cloud storage
We previously reported about Wii U cloud storage, we have some more details on that. The cloud storage option will be “a few hundred MB”, will be free to all players, and will only be used to store save games and player profiles. It’ll launch in 2013.

Social networking
Nintendo will also add “deep integration” of social networking features to the Wii U, including both Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook. Players will be able to upload screenshots to their Facebook accounts, auto-Tweet game progress, and record and upload game videos to YouTube. “They’re working on a UI overlay for the OS to add Twitter and FB notifications, but so far we haven’t seen it. They’ve reserved a lot of system memory for stuff like that”, the developer told us. “There isn’t much documentation about it in the new SKD, but they’ve told us it’ll be available in the future”.

Wii U avatars
Nintendo Network on Wii U will introduce new avatars with a lot more features than the original Mii avatars on the Wii console. Players will be able to use the Wii U controller’s built-in camera to take pictures of themselves and create digital avatars that resemble high-definition Miis. The Miis can then be imported into games. “There’s an API for the camera to scan faces and turn them into low-res 3D versions for games. But it’s still buggy as hell and it depends a lot on the kind of engine you’re running”, the source said.

Wii U development and game ports
Additionally, the source mentioned that porting current gen games to the Wii U isn’t as easy as originally thought, and that games that have been developed for the Xbox 360 are “much easier to port to Wii U than PS3 versions. A lot less headache involved because their architecture is similar. Technically, you can just recompile X360 to the Wii U and it’ll pretty much run, but PS3 to Wii U is much much trickier.” He said that the latest SDK hardware is final, only the software keeps updating.

“We’ve spent a lot of time creating our own tools for the X360 this generation, and we’ve already tweaked a lot of the tools to work on the Wii U. But if you code on the Wii U from ground up and have to use middleware, it’s probably gonna be tougher than doing an X360 game from ground up.”

Re: Wii U Official Thread

Wii U might support two controllers after all

wii-u-controllers.jpg

There has been some going back and forth on whether the Nintendo Wii U would support two tablet controllers at once. We’ve heard from developers a while ago that the Wii U controller takes up considerable processing power and therefore two of them would be unlikely. Then Nintendo said that theoretically, the Wii U could support two controllers, but that they company is only planning on supporting one.

New rumors (via NeoGAF) now suggest that the latest version of the Wii U dev kit includes dual controller ports for the Wii U tablet controller. While the retail version of the controller will be wireless, the dev kits have wired versions. According to the rumor, the second controller port isn’t usable by developers, but its presence suggests that at some point in the future, a second Wii U controller might be possible. Since the controllers do take up some system resources, developers would have to keep this in mind when creating games that support dual controllers. Another thing to consider is that the tablet controller is much more expensive and advanced than regular video game controllers. Nintendo currently sells the Wiimote at around $30, the Wii U controller could easily cost twice that, perhaps even more.

When it was showcased at E3, the Wii U was playable with one Wii U controller and up to 4 other Wiimotes at the same time. Nintendo revealed mini games where up to 5 players (one tablet + 4 Wiimotes) could play at the same time, either together or in splitscreen. A recent leak showed that a new version of the controller with dual analog sticks, a larger size, and a slightly larger screen as well. You can find a comparison between the old and the new controller here. If dual tablet controllers are possible, we expect Nintendo to announce it at E3, perhaps with other Wii U hardware announcements.

Wii U getting NBA 2K13 basketball game

nba-2k13-wii-u.jpg

2K Games has announced that NBA 2K13 is coming to the Wii U console, and will be released in the launch window. The Wii U is rumored to be launching on November 18, 2012, while NBA 2K13 will launch on October 2 for the Xbox 360 and PS3. 2K didn’t reveal any Wii U specific features for the NBA basketball game, although we expect it not only to look better due to more powerful hardware, but some form of innovative use of the controller as well.

NBA 2K13 is one of the first sports titles to be officially confirmed for the Wii U, the other being EA’s Madden 13. EA is also expected to bring the rest of their EA Sports lineup to the console, including FIFA 13, NHL 13, and others. 2K also revealed that those who pre-order NBA 2K13 will get a free DLC: the NBA All Star event, where players can stage their own All Star game, 3 point shootout, and dunk contest. It’s unknown if this DLC will be available to regular buyers of the game. We’d be surprised if it’s an exclusive pre-order bonus.

Sports titles are some of the games that can clearly benefit from the Wii U controller. The tablet screen can be used to show detailed stats of the game, to call out plays, manage the player squad — the possibilities are endless. Hopefully developers won’t just do straight ports to the Wii U of their games, but find some great ways of utilizing this new technology.

Re: Wii U Official Thread

New set of Wii U games revealed (or rumored)

Over the past few days, several new Wii U games have been either announced or rumored to be in development for the console. This is usually the case at this time of year, as we get closer to E3, more and more details tend to slip and leak or get announced early. We’ve compiled a short list of those Wii U games that are rumored for the new console. While they are still categorized as “rumored”, these titles are actually looking pretty solid and should be announced at E3. With the exception of Final Fantasy XV, which is doubtful, but we’ve included it anyway.

Injustice: Gods Among Us

injustice-wii-u.jpg

Injustice: Gods Among Us has been confirmed for the Wii U by developer NetherRealm, who previously worked on Mortal Kombat. It’s a fighting game based on the DC Universe, and features characters such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and more. It’s one of the first fighting games to be announced for the Wii U.

Splinter Cell Blacklist Wii U

splinter-cell-injustice-wii-u.jpg

Ubisoft’s latest Wii U game is rumored to be Splinter Cell: Blacklist, which will also be released on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Splinter Cell is one of Ubisoft’s best selling franchises, it’s no surprise they’re working on another title. The good news is that Splinter Cell: Blacklist is very likely to end up on the Wii U, given Ubisoft’s commitment to the console.

Kingdom Hearts HD Remix for Wii U

kingdom-hearts-wii-u.jpg

Square Enix is reportedly working on a remix of several Kingdom Hearts games, including Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, and Chain of Memories, and will release the whole bundle on the Wii U as “Kingdom Hearts HD Remix”. The game is also rumored to be released on the PS3 as well.

Toki Tori 2

toki-tori-2-wii-u.jpg

Developer Two Tribes has announced that their cute platfomer Toki Tori 2 is coming to the Wii U. The game will be a download-only title via the Wii U Ware service, and could be a launch title for the console. The game is already available for the PC on Steam.

Jett Tailfin

jett-tailfin-wii-u.jpg

Jett Tailfin, made by Maximum Games, is an underwater “racing” game for the Wii U. The game is already available on Android and will be coming to the 3DS as well. Not much is known about the game, though — for all we know, it’s the first Wii U shovelware title.

Final Fantasy XV

final-fantasy-xv-wii-u.jpg

There are so many Final Fantasy games out there that keeping track of them is getting tough. The latest rumor suggests that Square Enix is renaming Final Fantasy Versus XIII into Final Fantasy XV and releasing it on the Wii U. FF Versus XIII is officially a PS3 exclusive, and something tells us it’ll remain that way. We’d be surprised if this particular rumor turns out to be true.

Re: Wii U Official Thread

Injustice: Gods Among Us screenshots

Injustice-Gods-Among-Us-2.jpg

Yesterday we revealed that Injustice: Gods Among Us was coming to the Wii U, and now developer NetherRealm has released the first screenshots of the game. Injustice: Gods Among Us is a Mortal Kombat-style fighting game set in the DC Comics universe, with characters such as Batman, Superman, Flash, Wonder Woman, and various bad guys. It looks like a promising game, especially since developer NetherRealm previously worked on Mortal Kombat. Injustice: Gods Among Us is scheduled for release in 2013 on the Wii U, Xbox 360. and PS3.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is the second fighting game to be announced for the Wii U, the first one being Tekken. For a full and up-to-date list of all titles, check out the Wii U games list. Head on after the break for the Injustice: Gods Among Us screenshots.

Grand Theft Auto 5 coming to Wii U in 2013

gta-5-wii-u.jpg

Grand Theft Auto 5 will be coming to Wii U, according to publisher Rockstar.. According to a new financial report from developer/publisher Rockstar, the company will release Grand Theft Auto 5 in early 2013, and it will be coming to the Wii U in addition to other consoles. GTA V was announced last year, but no release date was given. Considering that Rockstar usually takes their time with games, and rarely announces release date until they’re absolutely certain, it’s easy to see Grand Theft Auto 5 be released about a year from now. But the biggest surprise is that it now appears we’ll be seeing GTA V on the Nintendo Wii U as well, and hopefully with some new and innovative ways of using the new Wii U controller.

wii-u-controller2.jpg

A few days ago an image of an updated Wii U controller leaked (by a person who has since been fired) from developer Traveler’s Tale. It showed an updated design with dual analog sticks, and according to some, the new Wii U controller was also larger than the previous one. A few images have appeared online now (via GoNintendo) comparing the two controllers. We can’t confirm the accuracy of the images and the comparison, but it’s an interesting look nevertheless.

The red image represents the new design, and as you can see, it’s noticeably larger than the old one. In addition to being overall wider than previously to accommodate the new dual analog sticks, the new design isn’t as “flat” on the underside as before, something that the images don’t show. The new underside is much more grip-like, instead a flat surface with a cross bar. Some have also speculated that the screen is larger than before, 6.4 inches compared to 6.2 inches. As usual, we expect Nintendo to fully reveal the tablet controller, the console, and accessories at E3 on June 6.
