- ip link show eth0 ( this command is to verify if the MAC switched)

if not successful, reason:
you may not be able to change the MAC address while the link is
up...try:
- svi dhclient stop
- net stop
- ip link set eth0 address xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx <== newmac and eth0 is the Device name
- net start
- svi dhclient start
- ip link show eth0

to set DEVICE up or down, you can also use:
- ip link set DEVICE up <=== set device up
- ip link set DEVICE down <=== otherwise
- ifconfig up / down
- ifdown
- ifup
