Discussion Thread All About PS VITA ( aka NGP )

@Ejstrider

lol not reliable source yan forum lang yan eh, pag mga engadget, or arstechnica, or 1up, or any gaming news site baka maniwala pa ko dun, lol

Blockbuster UK have apparently posted this flyer
here detailing up and coming game and Blu ray
releases. Interesting thing is the PSV is listed here
with a Relase Date of the 28th of October this
year. Take this info with a pinch of salt but if this
ture were likely to see the PS Vita earlier than
expected! Its also been reported that a large
Korean electronics company (Samsung or LG,
take your pick) has started production of the
PSV’s ARM Cortex A9 4 core CPU. Sony were
contacted over this info by IGN and they replied
“confirming only that the Vita would receive a
phased global release this holiday season”

@Ejstrider
thats mostly the content of the rumors roaming around the internet, so its still not confirmed

well sana nga mailabas na to dis october excited na din ako for this one.

Breaking News: Sony confirms PlayStation Vita out in Europe and US early next year (2012), in Japan by the end of 2011

UPDATE: Sony has confirmed to Eurogamer that Vita goes on sale in Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan by the end of the year. It goes on sale in Europe, the US and the rest of the Asian territories "early next year".

ORIGINAL STORY: Sony executive Kaz Hirai has confirmed that the PlayStation Vita will launch in Europe and the US early next year.

It launches in Japan by the end of the year, according to MSN Money.

Apparently Hirai did not characterize the timing as a delay. He said Sony wants to be prepared with solid game software offerings timed with the hardware launches.

And there appears to be some doubt over whether Vita will launch this Christmas even in Japan.

Hirai was clear on one thing: Sony will not cut the price of the Vita – despite Nintendo's decision to slash the cost of the Nintendo 3DS.

"We packed so much into the device and made it very affordable," Hirai said. "There is no need to lower the price just because somebody else that happens to be in the video game business decided that they were going to lower their price."

Sony is yet to announce a UK price for Vita.

lol as expected, rumor lang talaga yang October release, pero parang mas matagal pa ata ngayon next year pa US version, sana hindi region lock sa mga games para pwede ako bumili ng japanese version

Can't wait for this baby, sayang next year pa, medyo matagal pa. Makakaipon pa ako para sa mga games.

@thediamante
yes and no

yes mapaplay nila via vita carts or from psn
no kasi yung mga umd releases hindi, at isa pa lalong hindi gagana iso dito since pirated yang mga iso files na yan

ive read the whole thread and may nbasa ako na it can play ps1 games?

pero anti piracy na siya kaya you have to buy all the games you had sa ps1 and psp all over again? unfair?

tama ba wala na xang UMD slot? edi ISO games na to?

@mike013
nope, cartridge base na psvita ala ds/gba/3ds, and most psp titles idodownload mo na lang via psn store

pero sana nga dun sa mga nakabili ng umd may way para malaro yung games nila para di na ulit sila bumili via psn store, lol

@thediamante
tama pafs ganun na magigign sistema ng vita, lol, pagagastusin na naman tayo kung bumili ka man dati ng umd

Six PS Vita Titles Confirmed From Ubisoft

French game publisher Ubisoft on Tuesday announced strong support for Sony's upcoming PlayStation Vita handheld console, with iterations of popular franchises currently in the works for the platform.

Ubisoft said action franchise Assassin's Creed is coming to the device, along with platforming game Rayman: Origins, puzzle title Lumines, racing game Asphalt, action RPG Dungeon Hunter Alliance and music game Michael Jackson the Experience.

Ubisoft has made it a point to get onto new platforms early on in their lifecycles, and followed the same strategy with PS Vita handheld rival, Nintendo's 3DS.

Ubisoft didn't offer further details such as launch dates and pricing. The PS Vita is slated to launch by the end of the year in Japan, and early 2012 in the U.S. and Europe. In the U.S., the Vita will sell for $250 for a wi-fi version, and $300 for a 3G/wi-fi version.

"With its processing power, dual tactile screens and cameras, PS Vita allows creators like Ubisoft new and unique opportunities to develop innovative games," said Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot in a statement. "We’ve got a strong and varied line-up that will offer fun and immersion to all audiences of the PS Vita."

Gamescom: All Vita Titles To Be Available On PlayStation Store

At a Gamescom press conference today, Sony announced that all titles for PlayStation Vita will be downloadable through the PlayStation Store, making it the first dedicated video game console to do so.

Sony previously announced that Vita titles would be available via download as well as through a new, proprietary flash-memory storage medium sold through retail stores.

Sony has offered a selection of retail PSP titles for full download through the PlayStation Store, though many titles were available exclusively in either UMD or downloadable format. The split market is widely considered to be one of the factors leading to the market failure for the download-only PSPgo.

The company has previously said that the Vita will be able to play all PSP games made available through the PlayStation Store, though the pending system lacks a UMD drive to play retail PSP titles.

Smartphone makers on platforms including iOS and Android have seen great success offering apps exclusively through downloads, with games representing some of the most popular downloads on those devices.

But Sony's Kaz Hirai recently said the Vita is catering to a "completely different market" than smartphones.

Sony has yet to offer a suggested price range for Vita software, or to clarify whether prices will differ between digital and retail versions of the same title.

GamesCom 2011: Sony Unveils The Whimsical Escape Plan For PlayStation Vita

Concluding Sony’s PlayStation Vita software presentation, the platform holder announced a whimsical puzzle-platformer called Escape Plan. The game has super-stylised two-dimensional visuals, with a Tim Burton-esque gothic theme to the art direction.

Very little is known about the game at this stage, other than that it features two characters named Lil and Laarge. The game’s due out exclusively on PlayStation Vita in 2012. We’ve placed the game’s debut trailer after the jump.

GamesCom 2011: Sony Announces Resistance Burning Skies For PlayStation Vita

Sony kicked off its PlayStation Vita software offering by announcing Resistance: Burning Skies, a brand-new title in Insomniac’s first-person alternate history franchise developed by Nihilistic Software.

The game puts players in control of Tom Riley, a New York fireman faced with the threat of Chimera’s initial invasion on New York.

Nihilistic showed off a lengthy demonstration during Sony’s press conference, showcasing the game’s blend of touch and traditional inputs. While the game looked early — an unoptimised frame-rate plagued much of the demonstration — it was a refreshing to see a first-person shooter control so naturally on a handheld platform. There’s potential for sure.

GamesCom 2011: Sony Announces Graffiti Application For PlayStation Vita

A trailer for Tag — what looks like a simplistic, downloadable graffiti application for PlayStation Vita — has popped up on Sony’s YouTube channel this evening. The video demonstrates the creation of simple pieces of graffiti which can then be placed and shared within the world, presumably taking advantage of Vita’s 3G connectivity.

The trailer concludes with a PlayStation Store logo, denoting the applications status as a cheap download for the Vita. Check out the reveal after the jump.

Sony announces PlayStation 3 and PSP price cuts
The electronics giant is cutting the price of PS3 to £199 effective immediately, while a new cheaper version of PSP is on the way

Sony has announced that it is cutting the price of its Playstation 3 console from £250 to £199, effective immediately. The consumer electronics giant is also set to launch a new cheaper version of its PSP handheld console, with a price point of 99 euros. An official pounds sterling figure is yet to be confirmed.

The PS3 was launched in 2006 and has now shipped over 50 million units, with sales rising considerably since the launch of a cheaper slimline machine in 2009. It is thought that larger retailers will cut the price even further, with supermarkets likely to go as low as £180. The new price was revealed during Sony's press conference at the GamesCom event in Cologne, in which the company also made several game announcements, including Resistance: Burning Skies, a new version of the hit PlayStation 3 shooter designed specifically for PlayStation Vita and DanceStar Party, a dancing version of the company's hit karaoke series, Singstar.

83225124.png

The new, cheaper PSP, which removes the Wi-Fi functionality from the six-year-old handheld, surprised many in the audience. Following the announcement of the PlayStation Vita console at E3 this year, it was assumed that Sony would be retiring the older technology. Instead, the company is re-packaging the PSP as an entry level machine, bulking out its software catalogue with a range of reduced-price classic titles.

Speaking about the price cuts, Andrew House, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe said, "Our strategy is to provide the best quality entertainment experience at accessible prices. With PSP at 99 euros, Vita starting at 249 euros and PlayStation 3 at 249 euros, we feel confident gamers can enjoy the incredible games available on PlayStation whatever level of investment suits their budget."

However, some industry insiders have question the logic of fielding two handheld specialist games devices into a market that's being pressured by the rise of smartphones and tablet gaming. It's possible, the two will cannibalise each other's markets, or that the cheaper handheld will draw complaints about the price point of the more expensive machine. "The problem is, while the new PSP price point makes that console very attractive, as a side effect it puts an unflattering light on the price point of the Vita," said Rob Crossley of industry news source, Develop. "I think the price of PSP now puts pressure on Sony to also reduce the price of Vita from £229 to ensure that it's attractive."

The timing of the PlayStation 3 price cut has also driven debate. "Sony is dropping the price point at a time when there's been no considerable pressure from retail to do so," said Crossley. "That's a big change from PS3's previous price drop." Of course, away from retail pressure, there's another reason why a console manufacturer may cut the price of its current generation technology: an imminent hardware announcement. Sony has assured gamers that PS3 will have a ten-year lifespan, and it's likely PlayStation 4 is a few years away yet. But with the Tokyo Game Show taking place next month, and the games industry in an accelerated period of evolution thanks to the rise of social and mobile games, anything is possible.

PlayStation Vita dev kit priced
GDC Europe: Studios looking to make games on PSP successor will only have to pay €1,900

Speaking at GDC Europe, SCEE's George Bain has confirmed the price studios will have to pay for a PlayStation Vita development kit.

"The PS Vita development kit is going to be very affordable," said Bain. "And when I say affordable I mean €1,900 plus VAT."

The price, which Shuhei Yoshida told Develop would be within the financial reach of smaller studios back in June at E3, will come as good news to numerous small and medium sized studios. Web speculation to this point had suggested the price would be around $3,000.

The €1,900 price tag is significantly lower than the €20,000 charged for PS2 and PS3 dev kits at launch, and the initial €15,000 fee for a PSP dev kit. Those dev kits saw their prices significantly reduced in 2009.

"There is no cost to join the PS Vita Develop Program," Bain added. "There's just that cost of the dev kit. If you're a small developer, we happy to talk to you about this. It will help if you have a games portfolio. There's no reason we won't speak with smaller studios about joining up."

Bain also confirmed that prototype dev kits can be free, and revealed that the SCEA PubFund, which offers studios budget for the creation of exclusive titles, is currently seeing up to 15 pitches a week.

The PS Vita Dev kit will, unlike the consumer version, feature HDMI out.

Bain concluded by confirming that while the Vita will eventually see non-gaming apps created with Sony partners, for now the company is only accepting game proposals. the system will also, like the PS3, boast support for freemium gaming models.

SONY CONFIRMS PS VITA 2012 DELAY

Today Sony confirmed that the PS Vita will miss the expected Christmas 2011 launch period everywhere except Japan where it will launch at the original expected time.

We have been getting rumors about the PlayStation Vita being delayed for weeks now but to be fair we have also been getting rumors that it will launch at the expected time. So it comes as a bit of a shock that today Sony VP Kazuo Hirai announced that only Japan will see the Vita arrive in time for Christmas, with the rest of the world (including Europe and North America) getting a “phased global rollout” taking place in early 2012. The delay is intended to give Sony time to prepare “solid” game offerings.

So that’s then, I for one am disappointed but at least it’s getting delayed for a valid reason. I’m sure most of you readers will feel the same way so why don’t you tell us below in the comments section? We would love to hear from you!

Kung Sa Europe Confirm For February/March 2012 Release :)

PS Vita to launch in Europe in February/March 2012

Sony has apparently narrowed down the European release date for PlayStation Vita to February/March 2012.

The console maker previously confirmed that the new handheld would launch in PAL regions in ‘early 2012,’ though didn’t go into any more details regarding the system’s release date.

However, according to a blurb on a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) newsletter (originally penned in Swedish, but translated by the chaps at NeoGAF), the device has been given a more specific release window.

It reads: “With its gorgeous screen, dual analog joysticks, innovative games and PlayStation Network interoperability the PlayStation Vita is an impressive package that has enthralled all who got to test it. PS Vita will be released in February / March 2012 in Europe, and has everything needed to revolutionize portable gaming. And now you can experience it yourself at GamesCom 2011 in Cologne, Germany.”

Sony will be showing Vita in full force at Gamescom this week, with the company due to host a press conference later today. PSU will be in attendance at the event, so stay tuned for all the latest info as it breaks.
