Step 1: Open start menu (click button on far side of task bar).
Step 2: Type into the search bar: "regedit.exe".
Step 3: Press Enter or double click the application to open.
Step 4: Go to these path
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/
Software/
Microsoft/
Windows/
Current Version/
Explorer/
FileExts/
Step 5: So after 4 steps you must see list of extensions(like .jpeg , .jar etc) you must select your problem extension .
For example: Taking I have problem of ".lnk " extension which results in having same icon of ".lnk" extension in my computer.To remove these issues follow next step as per your extension.
Step 6: Under ".lnk" or ". your problem extension " you will see user choice folder select it and delete that folder to solve the problem.
Step 7: Restart Computer.
These will solve your problem and next time think twice before opening with any "unknown" default program and to just verify program just uncheck the selection from "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" to make changes only at that current particular file rather than all files.
