I will suggest that before you try to modified your Galaxy SL.
pls be sure that you know already all important point in your phone.
1st is the simple procedure that you will need when you want to modified your phone:
this is how to get your phone in download mode: You need to shut down your phone before doing this.
Press Volume down + home button 1st and add power button
and this is how to get your phone in Recovery Mode:You need to shut down your phone before doing this.
Press Volume UP + home button 1st and add the power button
just wait the welcome note and if its appear just count 2 seconds in your mind then release and the recovery mode popout.
(Recovery mode is use for us to clear cache, And Factory Reset our phones)
This is how to Root your phone.

Procedure for rooting:
1. Check the box for USB debugging. From the homescreen > Menu > Settings > Applications > Development >USB Debugging

How to back-up and restore EFS (for IMEI)

We need to Backup our EFS folder for our IMEI number.. because samsung will search for that for validity of their Warranty..
This is how to backup EFS
Use adb and issue the following command:
open cmd: (be sure that you made the stepst above..)
Code:
Type adb shell
su
tar zcvf /sdcard/efs-backup.tar.gz /efs
After that you must see a "efs-backuo.tar.gz" on your sdcard.
Just put it on a safe folder on your pc.
If you have to restore the /efs backup later, this is how:

cp /sdcard/nv_data.bin /efs/nv_data.bin
rm -rf /efs/nv_data.bin.md5
If your SIM does not work after this, pull it out and reboot your phone. Now, get on adb and issue the following commands:

chown 1001:1001 /efs/nv_data.bin
Now, turn off device, insert your SIM and boot up.
next is the Clockworkmod.. this one is an powerful recovery because it can back up and restore your system..
Just an advise if you can Backup via Clockworkmod your DXKB2 (or the original Firmware of our phone)
so that we can use it for restoring our original Firmware..

1. Download the specific CWM .tar file for your firmware.
2. Run Odin.
3. Check Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time.
4. Put your phone into download mode: Press Volume down + OK + Power.
5. Connect USB cable and the program will detect the phone's Com number.
6. Click PDA button and select the CWM_PDA.tar file for your firmware.
7. Click Start button to flash these files to phone.
8. Do not touch anything till you see PASS on the program window.
9. Phone will reboot automatically.

A) For firmwares with 3 files in zip (ie XXKB3)
1. Turn the phone off. Remove SIM and memory card.
2. Download and run Odin.
3. Check Re-Partition, Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time.
4. Click PIT button and select this file: latona_20110114.pit
5. Put your phone into download mode: Press Volume down + OK + Power.
6. Connect USB cable and the program will detect the phone's Com number.
7. Click Start button to download the PIT file to phone.
8. After it is Done Click on Reset button, then unselect Re-Partition box.
9. Click PDA button and select this file: I9003xxxxx-xxx...-PDA-low-CL890053.tar.md5
10. Click PHONE button and select this file: MODEM_I9003xxxxx_REV_00_CL889972.tar.md5
11. Click CSC button and select this file: GT-I9003-CSC-xxxxxx.tar.md5
12. Remove the battery, then enter Device into Download Mode again.
13. Click Start button to flash these files to phone.
14. Do not touch anything till you see PASS on the program window.
15. Just do a factory reset after flashing using recovery.
B) For firmwares with only 1 file in zip a.k.a. One Package (ie DXKB2)
1. Turn the phone off. Remove SIM and memory card.
2. Download and run Odin.
3. Check Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time.
4. Put your phone into download mode: Press Volume down + OK + Power.
5. Connect USB cable and the program will detect the phone's Com number.
6. Click PDA button and select this file: I9003DXKB2-I9003DXKB2-I9003OLBKB2_HOME.tar
7. Click Start button to flash these files to phone.
8. Do not touch anything till you see PASS on the program window.
9. Just do a factory reset after flashing using recovery.

1) Root your Phone (if you are rooted already proceed to step 2)
2) install openvpn installer and the binaries..
click install > install > /system/xbin/ > /system/xbin/bb
check this directory if the installation is successful:/system/xbin/openvpn <- dapat nandyan yang file na yan
3) install openvpn settings
go to option > advanced >
check load tun kernel module
set path to openvpn binary: /system/xbin/openvpn
go to tun module setting > load module using > insmod
set path to tun module: /sdcard/openvpn/tun.ko (make sure to put your downloaded tun.ko on /sdcard/openvpn)
4) pili lng po kayo sa 4.1 and 4.2 kung anong gusto nyong gawin
4.1) Open Terminal Emulator and execute these commands:
$su
#mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock2 /system
#chmod 700 /system/xbin/openvpn
#mkdir /system/xbin/bb
#busybox ln -s /system/xbin/busybox /system/xbin/bb/ifconfig

download and extract natin ito 2xbin.zip sa loob ng /sdcard/openvpn/ folder
tapos at terminal emulator type natin ito(hit Enter after each command):

sh /sdcard/openvpn/2xbin.txt

6) Put your extracted config files on /sdcard/openvpn

UPDATE WITH GINGERBREAD XXKPE FIRMWARE

mga idol eto na po kasi parang stable nanaman yung Gingerbread natin dito nyo po makikita yung procedure how to flash and root XXKPE in simple ways..
1st is the XXKPE Firmware:
Download XXKPE HERE
1. Firstly, Download the link Above and extract
2. Run Odin3 v1.83
3. Check Re-Partition, Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time.
4. Click PIT button and select this file: latona_20110114.pit
5. Set it to download mode : Press Volume down + OK first, then hold Power button.
6. Connect USB cable and the program will detect the phone's Com number.
7. Click Start button to download the PIT file to phone.
8. After it is Done Click on Reset button [Partition box should be unchecked automatically.
9. Click PDA button and select this file: CODE_I9003XXKPE_CL409735_REV08_user_low_ship.tar
10. Click PHONE button and select this file: MODEM_I9003XXKPE_REV_00_CL1041909.tar
11. Click BOOTLOADER button and select this file: APBOOT_I9003XXKPE_CL409735_REV08_user_low_ship.tar
12. Click CSC button and select this file: GT-I9003-CSC-MULTI-OXAKPE.tar
13: You should unplug usb cable, remove battery, insert battery and bring it back to download mode. I have never been able to bring it to download mode with usb plugged in.
14. Click Start button to flash these files to phone.
15. Do not touch anything till you see PASS on the program window.
16. Factory reset
17. [To fix issues that pertain] Reflash from steps 9 -15 again, No need of latona at this point.
next is to install cwm
Clockworkmode download here
1 download file above and dont extract.
2 open odin from extracted xxkpe folder
3 put the downloaded GT-I9003_PDA-KPE-EXT4-BATTERY-FIX.tar in PDA.
4 flash.
and you have now a CWM on your galaxy.
How to root.
Root update.zip download here
1. download root above and extract
2. Put the extracted file on the external_sd
3. power off your android
4. press power up + homebutton then power on. and after you see the Galaxy SL logo release the homebutton and power on.
(you must have now the recovery mode.)
5. Choose " - mount /system" --> Back --> "install zip from sdcard" --> "choose zip from sdcard" --> Search " - Root.zip" --> " - Yes - Install Root.zip" --> Reboot system now
Your system must be rooted..
