Hi Vindicare. The only person who can stop you is yourself.

Meron ako colleague sa company ko ngayun. He is a Medical field graduate from Serbia. He just started programming as a hobby while working in the medical field. He was taking freelance wordpress job here and there to build his portfolio and eventually got hired by a Tech Company. And now he is our Technology Specialist.

It took him years before he was able to move to a programming job. But his continuous action eventually put him to the place where he wanted.

He is 8 years in the industry now. I think you have better chance than him because technology has significantly improve from that time and you can now learn programming from online courses (https://www.udacity.com/ and https://teamtreehouse.com/). and the good part is even big institutes like Google and Microsoft acknowledge these online courses.

So just like everything else in this world. If you really really want something, you need to work for it. If you do not get what you want, you did not work hard enough for it.

P.S.
try searching for advice in shifting careers in qoura(https://www.quora.com/). I always get great advice from that website.

Anong PL ang patok sa UAE yung kahit san ka magpunta di mawawala? web based applications or windows/linux based applications ba?

Web and Mobile industry here is doing great.

So if you want to be an android developer, study Java.

If you want to be an IOS developer, study Objective C or Swift.

I am a C# developer, but I would recommend Phyton and Javascript for web development. I don't usually recommend something I have not used yet but Python is one of the popular language here in UAE and the company that use them are those young googly type companies. Javascript is covering a lot of ground lately because of Node.js and NoSql (mongoDB).

But of course if you want to use the industry standards PHP, C#, C++ and Java will stick around on our life time.

Here's something that might help you decide. http://imgur.com/MD1JweO

I recommend that you find out your passion. If you think you want to configure network for years to come by all means, stay in networking career. But if you want to create computer application, website or games move to programming. Don't just apply for a job just because it is in demand or it has a high salary. It's much more important to love what you're doing.

Yup. I think that is a good plan. and while doing do that, keep building your profile sa linkedIn and attend a lot of seminars. You can start applying for a job while you are still there. Just make sure that when you get here in Dubai, you already made up your mind on what job you want take. Don't be like other Filipino's here that when you ask them what job are they looking for, they will tell you "Kahit ano". When someone tells me that, I know they are going to have a hard time here abroad.

I would recommend at least 2 years experience. That will give you the basic skills that you need to pass the interview and give you an advantage against fresh graduates of UAE.

You can start applying for a job while you are still in Phil. Start with building your LinkedIn profile. Check what are the common skills that are being asked in the job posting in LinkedIn. That CCNA will be a good advantage.

salamat sir bali ang gagawin ko pala sir after ko mag 1 year as I.T Admin(MCP Certified) is next ko naman 1 year naman sa it Industry and i will take CCNA. Tama lang po ba balak ko? kasi sabi nila advantage daw pag may certificate ka ng microsoft at ccna

I am glad to see this thread, at least I have the feeling that I am not alone with this quest for knowledge about programming. I am just a beginner to learn programming, I'm hoping that there are people out here in UAE who wants to brainstorm about programming..
