Re: Save your gadgets' battery life! Memory effect debunked. Charge it properly.

Lithium-ion polymer battery
Lithium-ion polymer batteries, polymer lithium ion, or more commonly lithium polymer batteries (abbreviated Li-poly, Li-Pol, LiPo, LIP, PLI or LiP) are rechargeable batteries (secondary cell batteries). Normally batteries are composed of several identical secondary cells in parallel addition to increase the discharge current capability.

Charging
LiPoly batteries must be charged carefully. The basic process is to charge at constant current until each cell reaches 4.2 V; the charger must then gradually reduce the charge current while holding the cell voltage at 4.2 V until the charge current has dropped to a small percentage of the initial charge rate, at which point the battery is considered 100% charged. Some manufacturers specify 2%, others 3%, but other values are also possible. The difference in achieved capacity is minute.
Balance charging simply means that the charger monitors the voltage of each cell in a pack and varies the charge on a per-cell basis so that all cells are brought to the same voltage.
It is important to note that trickle charging is not acceptable for lithium batteries; Li-ion chemistry cannot accept an overcharge without causing damage to the cell, possibly plating out lithium metal and becoming hazardous.[5] Most manufacturers claim a maximum and minimum voltage of 4.23 and 3.0 volts per cell. Taking any cell outside these limits can reduce the cell's capacity and ability to deliver full rated current.
Most dedicated lithium polymer chargers use a charge timer for safety; this cuts the charge after a predefined time (typically 90 minutes).

Disadvantages
As these lithium polymer batteries first emerged in the market, they were expensive. Now that the prices are lower, they are used in a variety of devices from R/C models to mobile devices. The major risk factor is the volatility. When punctured, Li-Po batteries react quickly by smoking and causing large fires.

charge ko na pag indicated na low battery na. pag wait ko kasi madischarge minsan d ko namamalayan nag off na pala. so mas ok charge ko na agad before drain.

Nice thread

Re: Save your gadgets' battery life! Memory effect debunked. Charge it properly.

nice post dude... hehehe and also according to our seminar in MIRDC( sa DOST) na kapag original daw and battery.. kailangan daw i battery empty muna bagvo i charge.. para rin humaba ang buhay ng battery.. yung nagsabi dun ay Metullurgical Engineer... at nag masteral din siya sa germany

Re: Save your gadgets' battery life! Memory effect debunked. Charge it properly.

mga sir, tanong lng..anu ba mas ok na battery, ung hsm hk or ung nokia talaga? thanks po sa sasagot.,looking for batt. po kasi ako ngayon..

salamat sa info

Re: Save your gadgets' battery life! Memory effect debunked. Charge it properly.

una sa lahat my refrigerator kayo.

5th step: pagkatapos 4th step salpak na sa CP, on lng ung CP then re-charge ulit.

ayan nadagdagan ung life ng battery mu.

ayon sa author nito TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK :upset:

TRY q na ito kanina perso obserbahan ko muna.

Re: Save your gadgets' battery life! Memory effect debunked. Charge it properly.

lipos are fool proof, di tulad ng nimh at nicd. add to that na ang ginagamit lang ng cellphones ay 1-cell lipos.. so fool proof talaga.. no need to deal with balancers. in my hobby, we deal with lipos all the time and never kami nakakasira ng lipo kasi madali lang talaga maintenance di tulad ng nimh at nicd.

a bloated lipo means it's dead, or near the end of its lifespan. replace it asap or risk fire and spending more than a replacement battery. and never use your devices while charging. sa cellphones di gaano common, pero sa laptops (or ipads too) marami gumagamit habang naka charge yung device. this is one of the biggest reasons kung bakit mabilis masira yung lipo. so as much as possible, turn off your device while charging. pede naman mag charge ng lipo kahit may laman pa without much damage to the batteries. sa gabi na lang kayo mag charge while sleeping, turn it off then leave it charging until you wake up.

also don't fully drain your lipos. sa nicd (and to NiMHs to some extent) lang ginagawa yun. lipos have a minimum keeping/storing voltage which 3.7~3.8v per cell. so pag lowbat na ang cellphone mo, patayin then charge your lipos. as I said, 1-cell lang naman ang cellphones (di pa ako nakakakita ng 2-cell lipo for cellphones), so no need to get bothered with balancers.

NiCDs suffer the most, followed by NiMH then last ang LiPo with little to no "memory effect". so sa lipo, kahit charge ka lang ng charge ok lang.. di siya mabilis mag degrade tulad ng NiCd.

TL,DR:
- Don't fully drain your lipos, Charge whenever you're 'low-bat'
- As much as possible, don't use your device while charging
- LiPos don't suffer from memory effect
- Don't take chances with bloated lipos, replace it asap.
- As much as possible, charge lang when lowbat, then let it fully charged.

sa hobby namin a lipo is considered good if it remains normal (hindi bloated) after a year. sa cellphones 2 or so years can be considered a long lifespan. I bought my 5800XM Jan '09, and until now yung original battery pa rin ang gamit ko, flat and hindi lumobo. ;)

Re: Save your gadgets' battery life! Memory effect debunked. Charge it properly.

Re: Save your gadgets' battery life! Memory effect debunked. Charge it properly.

pag lithium battery hindi kailangan i-fully drain, it shortens the life of the battery pag ganyan... sakin pag lumabas na connect charger, automatic connect ko na..
