Re: Sony Xperia S (Nozomi, Arc HD, LT26i) Official Thread [ICS 06/25/12]

How to root Xperia S(the manual way) for noobs like me.

requirements:
- unlocked bootloader (read first post of the thread)
- Fastboot folder http://j.mp/xps_fastboot_pkg
- CWM-SuperSU-v0.92.zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1596285
- kernel.rar http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1145853&d=1340304583
- recovery-nozomi.img http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1596285

Steps:
- Copy first CWM-SuperSU-v0.92.zip from your computer to your phone.

- Place the Fastboot folder in your computer. Kahit saan pwede.
- Extract kernel.rar and place it in the Fastboot folder.
- Place the recovery-nozomi.img in the Fastboot folder too.

- Unplug the phone from the usb port(assuming naka coonect yung phone mo dahil ni-copy mo yung zip file). turn off the phone, hold volume up while plugging it again to the use port.

- In the Fastboot folder, hold SHIFT key then right click. Choose "Open a command window here".

- Type fastboot flash boot recovery-nozomi.img you will have somthing like this:

- Unplug again your phone, boot your phone to access recovery mode.

- Once you see a menu, using the vol keys, up and down, select install zip from sdcard. Use the camera button to select,
then choose 'choose zip file from SD card'. You will see the CWM-SuperSU-v0.92.zip that we copied earlier, select it.

- Once you've selected it, it will show a little list of no's and a yes, choose yes with the option to install. It will prompt you once the installation is complete.

- Turn off your phone, hold POWER + VOLUME UP. make sure that there are three consecutive vibration to confirm that it is already off.

- Wait for a few seconds, then connect again your phone to the USB port while holding the VOLUME UP button.

- Go back to the command prompt, this time type in fastboot flash boot kernel.sin, You will have something like this:

That's it! Your phone is now rooted! :salute:

Hai naku..I guess this is the risk pag store warranty lang. How much kaya pa diagnose phone ko sa service center? Hmmm...

usually ang charge ng memoexpress (official dealer of SE/Sony Mobile) for basic troubleshooting without warranty nasa 350-500

gamit mo..

Re: Sony Xperia S (Nozomi, Arc HD, LT26i) Official Thread [ICS 06/25/12]

@themonyo Pre, question..Nasubukan mo na ba mag tethering using your XPS? Di kasi, maka connect other device sakin eh. I'm using globe prepaid, so possibly blocked yun w/in that network? Right?
From where ka ba sir? Hehe, ano bang mga pros and cons nag pag root?

sorry, di ko pa nasubukan kahit anong tethering with my XPS. pero dun sa samsung tab ko ginagawa yun as wireless hotspot. I'm able to connect 3 PC and 3 phones on it so I have a fair idea on what to do. I assume that you can already use the internet using your mobile network, so bypass na natin ang pagcheck ng APN settings mo. try mo muna walang password/authentication. pag ayaw pa rin, lagyan mo naman.
malabong blocked ang wireless tether with globe. they'll just see your device as 1 phone connected to their network.
about the pros and cons ng rooting, please use the search button or even google kasi marami na ring discussion about that and it's really long to enumerate them all. but basically, rooting just gives you access to full features of your phones only designers and manufacturers are allowed. pwede mo reprogram if you have the ability. the only cons is that you void the warranty pag nalaman ng service center and you might render your phone useless (term used is brick) pag sumablay ka sa pangangalikot mo. well, that's the worst case scenario anyway... pwede naman magrestore ng stock rom eh

about naman sa hotboot, magkaiba po sila ng fastboot. pag sinabing hotboot, parang quick restart lang ng system yan. i don't know kung naabutan nyo pa yung windows 98 or earlier but they have that kind of option na hindi na magrereboot at dadaan ng BIOS ng pc, yung OS lang ang magrerestart and not the entire machine. that's basically the same with hotboot. though magrerestart yung phone, hindi na nya ia-unload at reload lahat ng drivers at programs.
