Re: Bakit ako gagamit ng linux? anu ba advantage nito at ano ba ang mapapal

@mikkel12
- burn mo muna yang ISO sa cd, saka ka magboot from cd. Para mainstall

@KristyMaeyChiu
- open mo terminal mo, then type mo "sudo apt-get install wine1.4-i386" kapag naka 32bit ka, "sudo apt-get install wine1.4-amd64" naman kapag naka64-bit ka.

else, try this:
step 1. Open a terminal (Open the menu, type terminal and hit enter key.)

step 2. Add the Wine PPA by typing this on the terminal:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
NOTE: The first time you issued the sudo command on the terminal, it will ask for your password.
Just enter your account password (the one you use to login to your computer).

step 3. Update your system:
sudo apt-get update

step 4. Download Wine and its dependencies:
sudo apt-get install wine1.7

Regarding cinnamon themes, desklets, applets:
Were you able to unpack/decompress the files on the right directories?
Heres how you should do it:

1. Organize your Files. Create 3 folders on your Home directory and name them as myThemes, myDesklets & myApplets.
2. Move your downloaded files accordingly:
applet files must be moved to myApplets.
desklet files must be moved to myDesklets.
theme files must be moved to myThemes.

3. Open a terminal and run this commands one by one, hitting enter at each command:
NOTE: Command differs on each different file format. Here are they.
File Format Command to decompress
.tar.xz=tar -Jxfk
.tar.bz=tar -jxfk
.tar.bzip=tar -jxfk
.tar.bzip2=tar -jxfk
.tar.zip=tar -Zxfk

If files are on .tar. formats:
cd ${HOME}/myThemes
<command> * -C ~/.themes
cd ${HOME}/myApplets
<command> * -C ~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets
cd ${HOME}/myDesklets
<command> * -C ~/.local/share/cinnamon/desklets

NOTE: Replace <command> with the right command to decompress based on its file extension.

If files are on .zip formats:
cd ${HOME}/myThemes
unzip * -d ~/.themes
cd ${HOME}/myApplets
unzip * -C ~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets
cd ${HOME}/myDesklets
unzip * -d ~/.local/share/cinnamon/desklets

Also, try to check your downloaded files for any ReadMe files, it might contain specific instructions for installation.

If you did, it should appear on their respective sections on the system settings.

How to activate Themes:

How to add/remove Applets on the Panel:
1. Right-click an empty spot on the panel, select "Add applets to the panel".
2. Right-click an applet to add or remove from the panel, then close the Applets window.

How to add desklets on the desktop area:
1. Right-click on any empty area of the desktop.

Im sorry but im really not running a cinnamon on my computer. Im on KDE. Though, Im planning to use it as soon as the new LMDE is released.

But here is something you may do so that we can see your problem much clearly:

1. Open a terminal
enter this commands one by one, hit enter at every command:

cd ~/.themes
ls -a -R >> ${HOME}/themes.txt
cd ~/.local/share/cinnamon/desklets
ls -a -R >> ${HOME}/desklets.txt
cd ~/.local/share/cinnamon/applets
ls -a -R >> ${HOME}/applets.txt

This commands will create desklets.txt, themes.txt and applets.txt on your home folder.
this files simply contains the names, size & date of modifications of the files within the respective directories.

Now copy and paste the contents of desklets.txt, themes.txt and applets.txt on this thread so that we can see it and analyze it.

the reason for this, I suspect that you might either improperly decompressed the files or really did not decompressed the zipped files.

Or, Ill PM you my number, you may contact me. But inform me first on this thread if its really needed.

You may try Cinnamon though, sa tingin ko lang kasi, mas well maintained ito.

pre, ano yung effective/efficient at reliable na linux distro for cracking wpa/wpa2 psk wifi password?

pre, ano yung effective/efficient at reliable na linux distro for cracking wpa/wpa2 psk wifi password?

Kali Linux is the most popular Linux Distro for these purposes.
Though here are some alternatives:
BackBox Linux
Wifislax
BlackArch Linux

Though, generally, if all you want to do is to crack wifi passwords, I think its an over-kill to
install a distro for this lone purpose. WHy? Distros like kali are meant for Offensive-Security (or Whatever).
there for, this distros contains applications/tools that are far more complex than just wifi cracking.

In short, you dont need another distro for cracking wifi passwords. Imagine, a security-oriented distro like kali
would take atleast 3GB of hard disk space, a separate partition to be installed at, extra efforts for downloading
a 3GB file (if you dont have a good internet connection, imagine the hassle of downloading 3GB data) and
after installing this distro, imagine how big and how many apps/files/data are to be considered junk because
you wont use it after all (because all you need is to use the distro for cracking wifi).

So if, you dont have any current linux distro running, then go ahead and install kali.
If you already have a linux distro but without any tools to crack wifi passwords,
you dont have to spend time to download a 3GB file.

You dont have to install kali either, all you need is to install this apps:

aircrack-ng
This is your main tool for cracking wifi passwords.

Wifite
This tool uses aircrack-ng and automizes the process of cracking.

Fern-Wifi Cracker
This tool also uses aircrack-ng, automizes the cracking process plus, providing a GUI.

crunch
This tool will help you create wordlists.

These are the tools I am using. There are also other tools out there. Just google them.

And let you be reminded, cracking requires a specific "high-end" device to be successful.
There is someone around here at this site that claims "wifi-cracking" can be done with just any computer.

Well, this claim is particularly "true" only on a specific case. Not in general sense or usage.
For example, they claim that cracking PLDTmyDSL wifi connections are simply using its Mac Address as
a suffix and no other device is needed.
This is true. They found a vulnerability on the specific scenario.

But if we are talking about cracking wpa/wpa2 passwords in general, not only a specific provider like PLDTmyDSL,
you should have a method to analyze and crack "without external" help such as google or even this site.

So, what Im trying to say, just dont believe at those craps. They keep telling things they only borrowed from others
but they cant even reproduce or expand/extend their knowledge. Period.

Good Decision.
Regarding you concern, all of them are possible.
Specifically:
You may save documents, spreadsheets and any other documents or files on a format that can be used/opened by native Windows Apps (like MS Office).

To do it, (this apply to almost all Apps on linux, including GIMP, Scribus, AbiWord, LibreOffice, Gnumeric, etc):
Its common for us to save files by clicking the "File" menu then selecting either "Save" or "Save As".
But if you want to save files on a format like .doc or .docx, you shall gonna select "Export" instead
of the usual "Save" or "Save As" then choose the appropriate file format.

On LibreOffice, (default Office suite for most Linux Distro like Ubuntu or Mint), you may set a default file format
such that the usual "File" menu then select "Save" or "Save As" or pressing Ctrl+S (or Ctrl+A) or the longer
version Alt+F then press S or A will always make your files be saved in a format you prefer (and not .odf).

Here's how:
1. Choose Tools - Options - Load/Save - General.
2. In the Default file format and ODF settings area, first select a document type, then select the file type for saving.

can i also use some windows app? games like DOTA? internet download manager? torrent?

Yes. You may run Windows Apps from within a Linux distro of your choice.
Just install Wine and your ready to go.
After installing Wine, run your Windows Apps installer (usually named setup.exe) and thats it.

But using IDM or another torrent downloader from windows on linux is unlikely though possible.
Why unlikely? Linux have a lot of different download managers that are capable of what IDM can do.
Here are some:
uGet Download Manager
This is what Im using at the present, together (and should be) with aria2.

KGet
In terms of speed, its good. I used this before but prefer to use a fresh version from its source code repository
and building it from source. Can also be used as a torrent downloader.

This are those that Ive used. Just install FlashGot plugin on you browser and configure it to use your prefered
DM.

There are other apps for this purpose on linux. Just use your distro's software manager to find them or google it.

Yes. µTorrent is cross-platform. You may download its Linux Version its offcial site or from your

First of all, ano po Linux Distro Ginagamit nyo sir? I cant give exact details unless you specify what distro you use.

pano po ba mag install sa linux?
Use your distro's software manager to choose apps and install them.
Linux is much like Android. Well, Android after all, is just another Linux Distro.
On Android, you have Google Play where you choose apps and install them from there.
Linux, on this aspect, is like that and this system of centrally managing installation is called as "Package management"
on Linux and is handled by the specific distro's "Software Manager".
And on Android, the "Software Manager" is Google Play.

Nope. Linux is not windows. Linux is not compatible with .exe files. there are no .exe files on linux.
Remember, Linux is different from windows, in any aspects.
You just cant directly install windows apps on linux.

If you want to install MS Office 2013, you should install Wine first.

Wine had been discussed a lot on these thread so you may just read some later posts/discussions regarding it.
After installing Wine, you may install MS Office 2013 already the way you do it on Windows.

But why are installing MS Office 2013? wala ba LibreOffice gamit mong Linux?

1. What linux distro po ininstall nyo?
2. Ano po klase ng filesystem ang ginamit nyo for that 8GB partition?

If it is NTFS or FAT32, you may just simply resize it using windows 7.

If its a linux partition, I recommend for you to download Slacko (An Offical puppy linux variant based on SlackWare).

Here's the download page.
Direct Download link:
nluug Mirror
or you may also download from here
Internode Mirror
or here
Aarnet Mirrorhttp://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/puppylinux/puppy-slacko-5.7/slacko-5.7-NO-pae.iso

The file is slacko-5.7-NO-pae.iso.
The MD5Sum for file integrity is 9ab896cfa0d915afe7ad2f1f4c2042b2.
The file size is 161MB.

Install Slacko on a USB.
Here is how to do it using UnetBootin: Install Puppy Slacko to Live USB — Ubuntu

Alternatively (and I prefer this one, if you'll do it on windows), you may use Rufus.
Heres instructions on how to use Rufus: Install Windows or Ubuntu from usb drive using Rufus

After installing Slacko. Run Gparted by Clicking "Menu" (puppy icon in bottom left corner), then select "System" and then Select "GParted Partition Manager".

And here is how to use Gparted to resize your partition: Modify Your Partitions With GParted Without Losing Data

NOTE:
1. Remember that in order to resize your partition, it should have free space beside it.
2. You may easily recognize your partition by its size (8GB). But its better to put labels on your partitions so that
its easier to recognize.

pde po pa help how to install this manjaro? gamit ko po now is windows 7 ultimate 32-bit.. balak ko mag i dual boot tong manjaro... problem is hot to install this manjaro to dual boot.. thanks ng marami sa sasagot...

Manjaro is based on Arch-Linux and I have never tried such distro.
Anyway, what edition of Manjaro are you planning to use?

What are your problem with dual-booting?
I suppose you already know how to make a bootable USB/CD by using an .iso/image file. If not, read the post I made about jetbeer's question.
look at the part where Im discussing how to install Slacko.

Now, you may read this (Manjaro 0.8.9 review – KDE and Xfce desktops).
Reading that, look at the part where the screen shot takes you to the Manjaro Installer: Installation Type.

For you to dual-boot, you should select "Manage your partitions and where to install Manjaro (advanced) here
and not "Erase disc and install Manjaro (automatic)".

This will now make the installer ask for you to create a partition.
Here are some tips to not ruin your computer. Just keep in mind that:
Never touch partitions with NTFS, xFAT, FAT32 or FAT16 filesystems.
If your computer's pre-installed with Windows, Never install at /dev/sda or /dev/sda1.
Always use free space to make new partitions.

This of course, is if your a newbie.

This image shows a typical linux partition created. You may copy how it is done.
Additionally, I recommend that you put a label on your partition on "Label (optional)".

This video might help as well:

tnx pare sa advice, actually di pa ko gumagamit ng linux. IT Staff ako pero more on Windows lang talaga kame.

Welcome and thanks as well.
Re cracking wifi, I used Kali linux before. Specifically, Im using aircrack-ng for such task.
On a computer with 2GB of RAM, On-board GPU on an Intel Atom N550; specifically a Lenovo IdeaPad (you know how slow this computer is),
I was able to crack a default PLDTmyDSL password in just 12mins. But that is, using a very fine-grained and small word-list.

But cracking a very well personalized wpa2 password will take eternity on this computer (that is, a password where you dont have any idea).
But a friend of mine can do crack it (very well personalized wpa2 password) in just less than 20mins using his laptop with a good GPU.

Re: Bakit ako gagamit ng linux? anu ba advantage nito at ano ba ang mapapal

not necessarily, try to stick dun sa mga user friendly na distribution like ubuntu and mint, btw may test run si linux para ma try mo muna bago ka mag install, pag nakita mong working lahat ng drivers tsaka mo i install

san po mkkta un test run? sorry for the noob question.
