after maging assistant coach ni van gaal si mou sa barca, one would have thought that he'd be adopting the total football philosophy of the club. turns out he'd skip all that for an uber practical approach to playing, hehe. now he's added the siege mentality and confrontational media/officials approach, and his players are quick to follow suit. makes you wonder pano kaya mga players niya ngayon after they left chelsea, lalo na yung mga loyal players niya.

grabe talaga si pep, naging magnet ng mga players after he left barca. anyway, masyado ring magulo ang madrid dahil sa pinaggagawa ni mou, and alonso must have thought he had the best time to leave the club.

will be watching el clasico, of course. hoping for something like 5-0, but really, any winning score will do for barca, haha!

Saganang sakin barca 2008-2012. Let me explain.

Growing up, I always believed Pele and his World Cup winning teams were the best there ever was. Then I saw the high-flying teams of Baggio's Italy, Maradonna's Argentina, Ronaldo's Brazil, Zizou's France, and lately, Spain's World Cup and Euro Teams. They were all astounding in their own ways, and I especially think very highly of Ronaldo's Brazil and the man above anyone else who played the game at the time, Maradonna and Pele including. But boy, Barca of 2008-2012 was just something else. They swept aside everything and anything on their way to the top, and their play was the kind that bewildered all opponents to the point of surrender before a game. They created an imbalance and a panic that has never been observed in the world of this sports since. Then I thought what would happen if the earlier teams of Pele's Brazil, Ronaldo's Brazil, Maradonna's Argentina, etc., were to face this Barcelona side. The verdict? I do not think any of them has a chance. The idea made it clear and clinched it for me then: this 2008-2012 Barca were just head and shoulder above any team there ever was. As for the future, this current Barca combining all the deadly total football philosophy and direct attack, which relates only to what is necessary in the field/pitch rather than going for a certain philosophy like Pep's has all the potential to do better. The only question left is how much can this team realize its full potential.... My two cents...

Mula ng ma-assemble ng RM ang midfield nila, they make it a point to prove themselves worthy of bettering barca's vaunted midfield. Modric and Kroos were essential to this, and they also managed to squeeze Isco in the middle. Pag inobserbahan mo, talagang eager sila patunayan ang sarili nila, pressing and strangling the life of Barca's midfield. Ang problema lang they overexert themselves to the point of exhaustion in the latter half of the game, as happened in the last iteration of El Clasico. It gets worse pag una nakascore ang Barca and frustrate their attack, and it exposes the intent of RM. Swerte sila nung unang clasico di pa ganun ka-establish ang barca; the current barca medyo okay na pero I expect more next year....

palagay ko mahirap na mapantayan ang laro ng barca ng 2008-2012 kahit kailan. why? kase, hindi naman madalas mangyari na ang bulk ng players mo eh lumaki na halos magkakapatid sa isang lugar (la masia academy), puro himalang technically gifted, aggressive, and hungry for silverware and recognition. parang it's a one-off event in the history of the universe ( ), where all the stars aligned for this one superbly gifted personnel. kung humina man sila later on, cguro dahil na rin sa maraming factors, like nawala na yung hunger factor, but in its heyday and best form, there is no way any style of play could beat it, counter-attack, pressing, and yes, baka pwede wrestling...

on the other hand, the current iteration of that barca is the answer to all the long prayers of fans/pundits who thought barca 2008-2012 sacrificed decisive play in exchange for sticking to death to its tiki-taka philosophy. eh open na sa harap nga naman, bakit di pa ipasa derecho dun?? haha. so there, perhaps the best play is this: a combination of masterful, unwasteful possession play in combo with that deadly direct play. pansin mo, this barca is capable of all this? sana nga lang ganun ang mangyari...
