[TUTORIALS] Ubuntu (a Debian/GNU Linux Distribution)

EDIT: Since Maemo is a Linux-based OS, apparently may community forums din sila at http://maemo.org. Nakakatuwa, puwede pang i-install and run ang Ubuntu/Fedora/ArchLinux sa N900! http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=66531. Try ko to later, hehehe. :D

UPDATE: Tried it...working! :) And the better part is that we don't need to buy an Android phone just to experience Android...puwede rin siya sa N900 (although I personally don't like the Android OS). :)

Okay friend, pero sa weekend na. Di ako masyadong online pag may work. :) Aling screenshot, yung naka-Ubuntu? Or lahat-lahat ng screenshots?

Meanwhile, time for me to sleep. Pang-gabi kasi ang work ko. I'll keep in touch.

- how to install Puppy Linux to USB (for kaanib)
- screenshots of N900
- need to complete the wi-fi cracking tutorial

If I missed out on anything just let me know. Thanks!

Yep, as promised I will provide screenshots. Nope, by default the N900 is very bare...parang Ubuntu. Bare lang siya upon install, tapos you "soup it up" by installing applications from the repositories.

Sa weekend I'll post screenshots. :) Nakapag-install na rin ako ng Ubuntu sa N900. :) Next i-try ko triple boot yung Maemo5 (default OS ng phone) alongside with MeeGo and Android OS. :D

Hi Friend,

Nangyayari ito kapag "madumi" ang installation folders mo, e.g. you tried to install that application before pero hindi mo tinapos or hindi maayos.

Code:
dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/[B]<name-of-.deb-file(--unpack)>[/B]:
trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins/file-xmc', which is also in package gimp 2.7.3-2010110501~mm
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)

Are you trying to install GIMP from a PPA that you added to the Software Sources?

You have to clean it up first para matanggal yung mga previous attempts mo na mag-install. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/debian-26/broken-apt-get-227042/

System / Administration / Login Screen Setup

mga Ka-Linux happy new year po:salute:

1. This is the most simple method. First you should install Ubuntu Tweak. Open the terminal and type
Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-tweak-testing/ppa && sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak
2. Right click your Menu bar and select Edit Menus> find the Ubuntu Tweak entry> highlight it and click Properties> change its Command to:
Code:
gksudo ubuntu-tweak
3. Then access it through Applications → System Tools → Ubuntu Tweak
4. When Ubuntu tweak opens go to login settings and click unlock and enter your password

5. Click the button to change the login background
6. Restart GDM and Presto! To restart open the Terminal and type
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart

There you go!

Hi Friend,

Yung nabanggit nina kaanib amd lianne_john, that's how to change the GDM (login) screen/theme. To change the splash screen (Plymouth Theme), however, is different. Punta ka sa Page 1 ng thread na ito and look for the tutorial link for "How to Change the Default Plymouth Theme". Hope this helps.

EDIT: Make sure na mag-download ka muna ng mga Plymouth Themes na gusto mo before following the instructions sa Page 1. :) Marami sa gnome-look.org. Meron din mangilan-ngilan sa Ubuntu Software Center.
