[TUTORIALS] Ubuntu (a Debian/GNU Linux Distribution)

E2 maglagay aq ng advisa sa kung anong magandang gamitin na desktop environment for linux users...

Ang Desktop Environment (or simple DE) ay ang GUI ng ating desktop. E2 lang ang dapat nio isipin sa pagpili:

1. Processor mo (P3, P4, Dual Core, etc.)
2. RAM or memory mo (256mb, 512mb, 1gb, etc.)
3. Hard Disk Space mo (ilang GB ng hard disk?)
4. Video card (Nvidia, ATI, Intel, etc...)
5. Other peripherals (webcam, wifi, bluetooth, infrared, built-in modem, etc...)

So eto ang mga DE na well known....

1. GNOME - gamit ng Ubuntu Main Editions, at ng most Linux OS jan. GNOME 2 uses 512 MB ng RAM. Very user-friendly, pero very mabihat sa system. Advisable only sa mga p4 na may at least 512 MB for GNOME2 at more p[a kung Ubuntu 11.10 or later.

2. KDE - gamit ng Kubuntu Editions, at normally ng ibang Linux Usders as alternative sa GNOME. Very classy, sparkly pero wag ka, mas heavy pa yan sa GNOME 2!!!Advisable only sa at least dual cores or above for optimum performance, let alone plus pa ang at least 256 MB na Video Card.

3. Openbox + LXDE - Bihira ang mix na to. Pero it ay very lightweight (need lang ng at least P3 at 256 MB ng RAM for good performance, any plus sa requirements at sure na lilipad yan!). Kaya lang very tricky mag-setup nito. Kung sabagay, may mga OS na precreated na to, like Crunchbang Linux, Puppy Linux at Peppermint OS 2. Mukha kang techy pag tiningnan ka ng mga tao while using this.

4. XFCE - used by Xubuntu Editions, eto sana ang lightweight nila e. kaya lang 256 Mb RAM + P4 for MINIMUM performance. parang Windows XP lang ang interface, easy to understand.

Kayo, bahala kayo pumili ng Linux DE nio.

ts pag gagamit ka ng live cd pede mo ba iinstall un kahit wala kang internet?

Yes, pwede kahit walang internet. Yon nga lang yong packages mo dun ai di na updated or yong mga core apps lang naka.install dun.

I have tried installing without using internet connection. Bilis lang di ata aabot ng 30 minutes.

But after I installed, I updated para naman yong mga security vulnerabilities at bug ma fix.

Wubi - Windows Ubuntu Installer, yan yong app that will help you install Ubuntu in your Windows system. This is usually done pag mag.dual OS ka.

Hindi cya masyado makaka.affect unless your specs can handle. But think of the following:

1. If your installation shares the same drive, it will surely slows down your system. Kasi yong file system na babasahin ng OS is medjo malaki na. (Windows Files + Ubuntu Files). Lalo nat konti lang yong allocated space sa drive na yon. Ika nga mas mahirap mag.move sa maliit na space.

2. Most dual boot installation, usually the OS that is farther from the center of your disk is slower compared to the one that is installed near your hard disk center.

Mga bosing mabigat ang ubuntu, kompleto rekados nga kaso medyo malakas sa vram, try ninyo ang mga lite series, marami dyan, ako gamit ko PC Linux, free download lang naman, may mga bagong series sila pd i run sa usb at may lite version din, sa mga panahon pa ni magellan na pc, kayang i run ng puppy ang os sa diskette...

And also,adobe photoshop,corel and other applications or software ng ginagamit ko pwede pa rin ba sa ubuntu?

Mga kaSymbs. Nagulo ko ung DE ko. I installed Compiz po then enabled Opacity. After nun. Naglogout si Ubuntu then namatay si LCD ng matagal. Did a hard reboot po tpos logged in ulit kay Ubuntu. Pag balik ko wala na po si Unity. Ang natira lng po ung bar sa taas. Wala din pong notification icons and ung time&date.

Tried "unity --replace & exit" but nothing happened.


Tried "unity --replace" then the command stops at " Setting 'update-key' " po.

Wala rin po ako mahanap sa ibang sites. Huhu.


Thinking of reinstalling Unity po pero baka may massugest kayong ibang way? (O kaya magGNOME Shell na kaya ako? Di rin ako nttuwa sa Unity eh. Hehe.)

Yes, with linux cya na maghahanap ng mga drivers and mostly the latest kernel has updated drivers para sa hardware mo.

You can use wine for your windows applications. Just look for list of applications na supported ng wine.

For multimedia, you can have gimp (photoshop), shotwell, totem, rhythmbox/banshee. Or look into Ubuntu Software Center, naka.organize na dun yong mga softwares. Just look and try those ones.

Medyo pang advance pala ang TERMINAL..grabe eheh

yung .deb files yun ba ang mas easy way?
kasi i tried installing libusb,modeswitch at openvpn na .deb ang extension.

Sana po matulungan niyo po ako.
Super kapa ako dito sa ubuntu.

Depende sa taste mo, try mo lahat para malaman mo gusto mo XFCE ang gamit ko ngayon

ganito mga sequence ng DE ko:

gnome2->KDE4->gnome2->unity->gnome2->gnome shell->KDE->XFCE HAHHAHA

May "terminal" din naman po sa Microsoft...bago nagkaroon ng Microsoft Windows eh dati siya ang "MS-DOS". Kaso hindi ko alam sa ngayon kung tinuturo pa sa Grade 6 to First Year High School ang MS-DOS...naabutan ko pa kasi yun nung nag-aaral pa ako, lol.

It is for this reason (such as yours) kung bakit yung mga tutorials ko ay "GUI"-focused, meaning mas inuna kong gumawa ng mga tutorial na "point-and-click" using the mouse, although I can also teach Terminal usage. Sa Ubuntu 10.04 (and newer) puwede pong ma-install ang mga yan na "point-and-click" lang with the mouse.

Ako po, part of my previous assignment was to work with Lenovo. Nakapag-install na ako ng Ubuntu sa halos lahat ng mga hardware nila. Favorite ko yung Lenovo S10-3T kasi "netvertible" siya (a.k.a. netbook na pumipihit ang screen para maging tablet...and yes, touch screen siya). Yung mga *buntu ang sinubukan ko.

Puwede po. During the installation process, select the option "Manually adjust partitions (Advanced)". Please check the links in Page 1 also kasi if I can remember may tutorial tayo para diyan.
