[TUTORIALS] Ubuntu (a Debian/GNU Linux Distribution)

Anong video card brand po ba (NVIDIA or ATI)? Anong model? For NVIDIA or ATI, we already have a tutorial for this. Please check Page 1, under "General Ubuntu", item #4.

Specifics, please (model?).

Pero SiS is really hard to find. Hindi na siya laganap unlike NVIDIA or ATI kaya wala masyadong interest sa pag-develop ng drivers for SiS. May nagtanong na niyan kamakailan, you may want to use the "Search This Thread" function.

Please check Page 1 of this thread...under "Boot-up and Installation"...Item #7. Unfortunately you need a Live CD or USB. It's the only way to restore it. Same with MS Windows (kung kabaligtaran naman ang nangyari at gusto naman ninyong i-restore ang bootloader ng MS Windows).

EDIT: you mean to say na tinanggal ninyo ang Ubuntu (probably by reformatting your hard drive), then ni-reinstall ninyo ang Windows 7, and you want to continue using the bootloader of Linux instead of the (built-in) bootloader of MS Windows? If so, you may be interested in learning how to "install GRUB 2 in a dedicated partition".

Mapapansin ninyo sa Windows for example, kung hindi kayo ang "administrator" account ng isang computer...if you try to access the C:/Windows/system or system32 folders, "access denied" kayo.

Format of the command in Linux:

Code:
sudo chmod 775 /path/to/folder/or/file

Yang "775" ay isang "shortcut code" that means "enable read/write/execute" permissions to the file or folder na gusto ninyong i-set for the "owner" of the file, the "group" of the file, and "other" users.

Bale ang "read" ay 4...ang "write" ay 2...at ang 1 ay "execute". So, 4+2+1 = 7.

Tapos may "owner", "group", at "other".

Hence, 775 means = read/write/execute for owner (yung unang 7), read/write/execute for group (yung pangalawang 7), then read/execute (4+1=5) naman sa "other". Therefore, 775. :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chmod
http://catcode.com/teachmod/
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FilePermissions

:noidea: TIA

It's just that you have the wrong expectations sa balak ninyong gawin. So ganito, set ko lang ang expectations:

1. When restoring GRUB (Legacy or GRUB 2), what essentially happens is huhugutin natin yung GRUB (or GRUB Legacy files) mula sa Live CD or Live USB.
2. You want to restore GRUB 2 (Ubuntu versions from 9.10 onwards use GRUB 2)
3. You have a Live CD of Ubuntu 9.04 (Ubuntu 9.04 and older use Legacy GRUB, meaning luma/first version)
4. Therefore, hindi po ninyo talaga mare-restore ang GRUB 2 since you are using a Live CD that contains Legacy GRUB files and not GRUB 2 files. In the bootloader restoration process, you need the same version of OS to restore.
5. No, you cannot use MS Windows to restore GRUB Legacy or GRUB 2. GRUB is a Linux Bootloader. MS Windows has its own version of the Bootloader (tawag nila dun is NTLDR). As mentioned in my initial response, that is the only way to restore it.
5. Solution: burn a Live CD of the same Ubuntu version that you plan to restore GRUB from.

By the way, paano kayo nakapag-install ng Ubuntu 11.04 sa computer ninyo? Di po ba kailangan ninyo ng Live CD or Live USB para makapg-install ng Ubuntu (the Live CD/USB is also the installer of Ubuntu)?

Hm...can you describe to me your setup? Marami po kasing paraan so I want to make sure I give the best recommendation for your setup. De-router po ba kayo? Nagamit ba kayo ng NAS? File-sharing between computers of the same/different OS po ba? Etc. etc.

Address the issue with your video card first. :) Compiz requires a good video card...however based sa link na binigay ko, mukhang walang 3D capabilities ang video card ninyo so it looks like hindi kayo makakapag-gamit ng Compiz.

I'm sure hindi ninyo nabasa (or at least nabasa nang mabuti) ang buong thread. :)

Tip: Check Page 2 of the thread, read the last post slowly and carefully.

hmmm.well hindi naman po ako talaga hoping na mababalik ang grub 2 using 9.04...medyo naiintindihan ko naman yung akin lang is baka may alam tayong workaround kung paano mababalik ang grub2 using older version.. at sa kasamaang palad, next to impossible so far ang iniisip ko... nainstall ko using live usb kaso nasira ung usb ko hehe kamalasmalasan lang talaga..pero okay naman na si win7 ko.takbuhan ko lang kasi si ubuntu pag may LQ kami ni windows eh..hehe kasi mga apps ko wala atang counterpart for linux systems...thanks na rin..bibili nalang ako ng usb at gawing live...
