Hi guys,

I started this thread to help everyone wanting a new computer. All you need to do is post the following:
Code:
budget:
usage:

other miscellaneous requirements:

*If to be used for gaming,. please indicate the games you wish to play.

The prices i will be using are those that come from major shops in gilmore and also PCexpress and others... The prices will only reflect that of which on the date of my post.

also please put your requests in this format:

Processor:
Motherboard:
RAM:

Video Card:

Hard Drive:
Optical Drive:

Power Supply:
Casing:

monitor:

Accessories:

please indicate (at least)the size of the hard disk desired, and also what you need/have/prefer.

Thanks.

How to get to Gilmore:
commuting... From EDSA get on the MRT to Cubao and take the other train and get off at Gilmore station. so easy.
driving... Via aurora is the easiest way from EDSA. anyway, just ask na lang cos i dunno where you'll be coming from.

An example post would be as follows:
Hi. Please help me buy a computer for my son. He will be using it mainly for school and some games. He likes to play Dota and L4D. Our budget for the PC would be 20K. We already have a printer, monitor and speakers. Our monitor is a 17" CRT monitor. My son said he prefers 1gb video card.

Thank you.

Re: [ADVISE]Help you build/choose/upgrade your Computer

if you shared memory on video card, then your ram will be cut its memory.

ex. if you shared 128mb on videocard >> then 512mb(ram) - 128mb = 384mb ram.

Re: [ADVISE]Help you build/choose/upgrade your Computer

i think ill go for Antec TP550 nalang for my psu .

Re: [ADVISE]Help you build/choose/upgrade your Computer

@kai

w/ or w/o videocard It is never advisable to run your pc on a generic psu ..

@zhanewin
wala akong maisip sir na casing na 1.5k.. mostly nagrarange from to 2 -3k talaga.

@seifer_yai05

sorry to break it to you sir mahihirapan ka talga na laruin GTAIV with your current specs .. core happy game pa yan..:)

CPU: AMD
Video card: ung the best sana master 5 - 6k
Memory:
Casing:

wag muna ung Hard disk.
15k budget master. wait ko na lang po
thxbai!

Re: [ADVISE]Help you build/choose/upgrade your Computer

again i dont agree with this. you mean amd processors dont have less power consumption??

AMD for some quite some time is the winner in idle and load consumptions. Look at radeon cards compare to geforce.

Re: [ADVISE]Help you build/choose/upgrade your Computer

Re: [ADVISE]Help you build/choose/upgrade your Computer

:noidea: but :thanks:

600w generic psu is rated only at 250w-300w. maybe or sometimes mas mababa pa. no one knows kasi no one want to try and burn other peripherals dahil sa generic or low rated psu.

on efficiency, if you have a 600w psu. and your pc is running 150w. your psu then gets electricity from your socket (meralco) to a whooping 250w-300w. that means yung 100w-150w additional electricity natatapon lang na di mo man nagagamit.

on a 80+ efficiency psu. if your psu is rated at 500w. then your pc is running at 200w. then your psu gets electricity from your outlet with only 230w-240w. so that means 30w-40w lang ang tinatapon na kuryente.

in the long run, yung pinambayad mo sa electric bill ay dapat bumili ka na ng magandang psu.

in the long run, yung mga generic psu, mas bumababa pa ang efficiency. lets say 40% pa.. so thats too much diba.

and in the long run, pede pa makasira ng ibang parts ang generic psu dahil walang active pfc, overvoltage protection, undervoltage protection, etc. etc. etc.

hope malinaw na sayo.:)

Re: [ADVISE]Help you build/choose/upgrade your Computer

at saka po sa casing, in terms of airflow na minention ninyo, mas okay po ba ang Thermaltake TT V4 sa Aerocool Syvlone II?

again, maraming salamat po ulit sa tulong!

as for the hdd, any hdd will do. pero if ako sasagot, ill get the samsung spinpoint f3 1tb. why? it performs par to a wd caviar black pero it cost less.:)

on case, sorry. pero di ako aware sa mga case. i cant comment any case dahil aesthetics yun. a case for me is nice, but for you is not. just a reminder sa case, (1) airflow. (2) psu must be bottom mounted. (3) cable management, which means meron mga holes and meron space sa back of the motherboard tray. (4) design, ikaw nalang bahala dun. kasi its your pc. :) ehehe.

Re: [ADVISE]Help you build/choose/upgrade your Computer

yup useless lang. your graphics card is old na sir. siguro you can play gta vice city pa.

suggestions: kaysa sa buy ka ng new agp card. why not ipon for a low cost build cpu? e.g. a built in radeon 4250 can run san andreas with no problems.:)

Grab di antec before its too late.. Im selling my gf's psu that is a bnew OCZ modxstream para lang mahabol ang antec tp550.
why?? its a seasonic inside.:)

on case, sabi ko nga sir. its always a preference. punta ka sa mga shop. tingin tingin ka, yung tipong pag kakita mo, nagustuhan mo na. always buy a case na nainlove ka. kasi yan ang araw araw mo nakikita. not the inside diba. pero if you want, try looking at inwin cases. or thermaltake or aerocool. they built good case.

on generic brand of avr, ok lang kahit direct ka. a true rated psu acts as a branded avr.:) pero if you want extension, kahit ung cheap 250pesos lang pedi na.

Re: [ADVISE]Help you build/choose/upgrade your Computer

para saan po ito ggamitin?

anyway eto pang gaming..

mobo: Asrock N68-S3 UCC PHP 1950.00
processor: AMD Athlon II X3 440 3.0 ghz PHP 3200.00
vcard: Sapphire HD 6770 1gb/128bit ddr5 PHP 5300.00

total: PHP 10450

:hat:

..thanks poh..by the way anu meaning ng sinabi mo na "dapat ang psu mo true rated na.. :)"

Re: [ADVISE]Help you build/choose/upgrade your Computer

sir kindly compare these builds.. :

or

thank you.. :)

thank you.. comments and suggestions are highly appreciated.. :D

sandy bridge mobos do like a memory that is a higher frequency. tulad ng 1600.:) and get a mems na ripjawsX, not ripjaws.
they are design for sandybridge talaga.:)

on comparing the two, syempre mas mahal mas maganda.

on the 2nd rig, you can get the antec tp550 @ 2500 pesos. mas makakamura ka pero same performance lang.
after that you can make your cpu higher. go to intel i5 2300 para quadcore kana.

:thumbsup:ganun ba sir show your proof sa mga sinasabi mo or even mga review na alam mo para naman maliwanagan ang lahat dito:rofl:

AMD mas nauna sa c1e. Sandy bridge ngayon lang nagka c1e.
AMD has CNQ features before Intel have EIST.

and most importantly can Intel undervolt while overclocking its clock?? i think not, AMD has the only feature to control p-states on software. e.g. AMD overdrive.

Sandy bridge is a big leap dahil 32nm na while AMD is stock to 45nm processors. Hoping AMD BD will be out soon so we can see if AMD FX will have new features.

If youre running phenom II x6 you know what Im talking about.

Re: [ADVISE]Help you build/choose/upgrade your Computer

..thanks poh..by the way anu meaning ng sinabi mo na "dapat ang psu mo true rated na.. :)"

ang pinagkaiba ng true rated psu is hindi bundled ang psu sa mismong case. if you buy a case na meron bundled psu then chances na meron ka generic psu.

a generic psu can sometimes makes fireworks sa loob ng rig mo. :)

tapos if you run pa a power hunger cpu or a videocard then need mo talaga ng true rated psu.

true rated -- can deliver the real rated output. ++ alot of features.
generic -- half of the rated output ang kaya lang ideliver. minus on features.

features of psu: overvoltage protection, undervoltage protection. active pfc, 80+ efficiency (standard, bronze, etc) etc. etc.

Re: [ADVISE]Help you build/choose/upgrade your Computer

Hi Friends,

Here is my current hardware configuration:

Motherboard: MSi G41M4-F. Details here: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/G41M4-F.html
Processor: Intel Core2 Quad Q8200 @ 2.33GHz
RAM/Memory: 2 pieces of 2GB DDR2 RAM (PC800)
Storage: 1x 250GB (internal @ 7200rpm), 1x 500GB (internal @ 7200rpm), 1x 1TB (external via USB 2.0 connection), 1x 160GB (external via USB 2.0 connection)
Graphics: GeForce 9500GT 1GB 512-bit
Display: 22 inches display
PCI (extra): wireless LAN card (Linksys RangePlus WMP110)
PSU: generic that came with the tower, 500W

Requirement: I plan to upgrade the video card to something in the GTX range.

1. Can my PSU handle it? I understand that some video cards (like the GTX460) require extra power. For example the GTX460 needs 2 pieces of 6-pin PCIe connectors as supplementary power.
2. I am not too much into gaming. The "heaviest" game I play (as far as graphics) is Crysis which, in my experience, is handled by my current video card pretty well (GeForce 9500GT).
3. I do not want ATI video cards. There is a reason why I need only NVIDIA. As you can see in my signature, I'm a Linux user. Some projects I am interested in will be about cracking wireless networks. And I'm playing around with CUDA Technology (which is offered by NVIDIA that's why I can't go for ATI) wherein I use the processing power of the GPU (video card) as an extra "processor" whenever I crack wireless networks.
4. I prefer at least a GTX200++ series and above.

Please let me know what you can recommend. Practically speaking I also don't need to upgrade my processor; it handles the job well. In fact I rarely maximize the power of a Quad Core processor. The only time I max it out is whenever I work on my project. It's just the video card's processing power that I need. The reason I asked my question here is so that I will know if I'll end up buying a whole new rig just because of my requirements.

You may also send your responses via Private Messaging (PM). Thanks. :)

hi there... Just reviewd your post and here's my thought for your system gtx 460 wil run smoothly in your system but it requires upgrade in your current psu. Generic wont last for videocard like that. Get some tough psu to handle your system. My advice go for thermaltake, antec, hec or coolermaster true rated 650 watts. One thing to consider also try to upgrade your ram to ddr3 system. I know msi g41 can run ddr2 and ddr3. If so then upgrade your ram. Hit thanks nalang.

Thanks for taking time to review my inquiry.

So just to recap:

1. MSi G41M4-F can handle the GTX460; just need to upgrade the PSU to a 650-watter. Will this be enough or do I need to buy a higher-rated PSU? Out of the brands you mentioned, which is the most recommended (taking into consideration possible future hardware requirements)?

2. About the RAM support: I know that the G41 series may support DDR3, but I'm not sure if my specific board (G41M4-F) can support DDR3 types of RAM. I checked my motherboard's manual and the MSi website and I think it only supports DDR2. To which I ask a question: is it necessary to upgrade to a DDR3-type of RAM when I upgrade the video card? I rarely max out my 4GB of DDR2 ram because I use Linux. When a computer uses Linux, it allocates a portion of the hard drive as Swap space (think of it as an "extender" for RAM). I just use up an average of 1/4 of my system's 4GB, even on DDR2 RAM. Are you recommending an upgrade of RAM because of my intention to upgrade the video card? Because if it matters, then I may need to purchase a whole new system, then...since my specific motherboard doesn't support DDR3 RAM.

Thanks again. :)

hi again, bout the ram its really not necessary to changed it. If your using linux it wil be fine. Regarding to psu 650 watts is enough since its true rated or 80% efficiency can supply your system. intel is known for low power consumption so even if you do upgrade your your mobo to crossfire or sli system your psu can handle them. I recommend coolermaster, thermaltake. If you do have budget for psu go for corsair.

Hi Friends,

I'm back, with a few more questions. Hope you won't mind helping me. :) I'm the guy who plans to upgrade his video card (planning to get the GTX 460). My current PC specs are quoted above.

So I was looking for a video card and PSU as recommended by zyobalap (that I need to upgrade my PSU so that it can support the video card) here http://www.tipidpc.com/useritems.php?username=PCHub.

1. Video Card. I saw some GTX460's on that page. Why is it that the 2GB overclocked and the 1GB overclocked are just PHP10 apart in terms of price? Just wondering. By the way, my current motherboard supports PCI-e x16 1.1, but I have read some articles online that it PCI-e slots and cards are backwards-compatible with each other, although there is a negligible 5% drop in the card's speed if you use a PCI-e 2.2 card on a PCI-e 1.1 slot. I can live with that slight performance drop since I already mentioned I am not a gamer. I just need the video card for its CUDA technology (also the reason why I can't go for ATI video cards). Also do I need to buy a VGA cooler for this type of card? Thanks.

PHP9,480: EVGA, 1GB/256bit FTW (OC edition) DDR5
PHP7,530: Inno3D 1GB/256bit (not overclocked) DDR5
PHP9,490: Inno3D 2GB/256bit (overclocked) DDR5

2. VGA Cooler. Do I need this for the GTX460?

PHP1,890: V4600 (compatible with GTX460 and GeForce 9500GT). Pictures Here

3. PSU. So based on my current computer specs and with what I want to upgrade (video card), I got a recommendation to move to a branded 650-watt Power Supply Unit. There are a lot of brands and I am not very familiar. Based on my conversation with zyobalap, his top 3 choices (in no particular order) would be Cooler Master, ThermalTake, and Corsair and they should have this 80% efficiency thing. So based on the TPC page, here's what I saw (see list below). Also if I plan to (or need to, if required) buy a VGA cooler for the GTX460, will I need a PSU higher than 650 watts?

PHP4,660: Corsair 650W (TX650) 80 plus
PHP4,680: Corsair 700W (GS700) 80 plus
PHP4,920: Corsair 800W (GS800) 80 plus
PHP3,300: Cooler Master 650W GX (RS-650-ACAA-E3) 80 plus
PHP3,800: Cooler Master 750W GX (RS-750-ACAA-E3) 80 plus
PHP7,910: Thermaltake TT 650W Toughpower Grand
PHP5,240: Thermaltake TT 675W Toughpower XT
PHP4,100: HEC 700W Cougar CMX 80 plus bronze (with modular cable management)

4. CPU Cooler. Not sure if this is needed, but whenever I run CPUID Hardware Monitor, I see that my Quad Core Q8200 is running on high temperatures even if my PC tower's side panel is open, ranging at the 70-80 degrees Celcius. I have read in other forums that these temperatures are already considered too high. If I add a CPU Cooler, will I need a higher wattage of PSU, higher than 650 W (also please factor in the VGA cooler for the GTX460 - if needed)? Reason I selected the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus is because it is compatible with current processor chipsets (LGA1156) as well as my current chipset (LGA775). So in case I plan to upgrade my CPU and motherboard at least I can still use it.

PHP1,350: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus

5. Casing. Since I plan to install the GTX460 (a full-sized card) and with that, a requirement of PSU upgrade and looking into a CPU cooler...do I need a bigger casing? Do all PSUs come in the same size? Also I have read here that ideally, PSUs should be bottom-mounted...my current casing is top-mounted PSU. I'm not too much on aesthetics, as long as the casing can fit the components and offer good cooling.

PHP2,200: Thermaltake V4 Black Edition Pictures Here
PHP4,400: Thermaltake A90 Armor Series Pictures Here
PHP2,100: Cooler Master USP 100 (Black), no Clear Side Panel Pictures Here PHP2,700 if I would choose the clear panel.

Or do you suggest I upgrade my entire system instead? E.g. upgrade the Motherboard, Processor, RAM (no need for storage, I have lots)? But anyway I am still very satisfied with the performance of a Quad Core, so upgrading this will be secondary. As long as the parts that I am planning to buy right now can still be used for future-release motherboards (I would probably upgrade to a Core i7 in the far future, but not very soon...I just don't need it yet).

Sorry I have a lot of questions. I have budget, but of course even if one has money, it is still a good idea to ask around and see if I can shave off some costs by balancing out my selection. That's why I'm hoping you can guide me. :)

I am also available by chat (Invisible Mode)...topet2k12001 on Yahoo! Messenger. Appreciate your help, friends.

Reason I selected the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus is because it is compatible with current processor chipsets (LGA1156) as well as my current chipset (LGA775). So in case I plan to upgrade my CPU and motherboard at least I can still use it.
